ARIES: The Sun
This month should see you feeling a sense of satisfaction and contentment over recent accomplishments.
The Sun card is traditionally associated with vitality, warmth and a sense of feeling particularly “alive.” But in this version the focus is just as much on taking care of yourself and manifesting that vitality through soaking in the Sun’s rays and recharging your batteries.
The Sun, Mercury and Venus all move through your 6th house this month — the area associated with work and with self-improvement, which includes your physical and mental well-being. Rest and relaxation is just as essential to that process as are work and productivity.
The “Sun” in this card appears to be setting. It casts its rays onto the ocean in the background, shining across the surface like molten gold.
The image of the woman sleeping comfortably without a worry in the world perfectly captures the essence of the Sun. There’s a sense of effortlessness that’s associated with this card, even as the world keeps on turning around you.
Your ruler (Mars) moves into Sag this month (on the 13th) and into your 9th house — the area associated with personal growth and expansion. After that point there will be plenty of time to spread your wings and fly.
But for now — and in the early days of the month — you’ll want to take the time to relax, restore and recharge. The Sun card tells you that for now at least everything’s alright in the world, and you can afford to take the time to soak it all in.
TAURUS: Enchantress of Cups
This month you may find yourself dealing with a lot of emotional energy that you don’t know what to do with.
This card is roughly associated with the Queen of Cups in traditional decks. In that respect she represents depth of feelings, sensitivity, soulfulness and emotions. But the similarities may end there.
The Enchantress of Cups has a deeper, darker energy. More raw and unharnessed. And potentially more perilous.
This version of the card sees the sorceress Circe unleashing those raw emotions in jealousy and rage. She poisons the sea, never considering the far-reaching consequences of this one act of vengeance.
The Sea — and water symbolism in general — relates to feelings, emotions, the unconscious and the very depths of our psyches. The act of “poisoning” it symbolically suggests emotional states that are both unhealthy and harmful.
With Saturn and Mars moving through your relationship sector this month, you too may find yourself dealing with emotions that are out of character for you. You may be tested by a partner or by circumstances that are beyond your control.
You’ll have to work to rein your emotions in — especially if they threaten to jeopardize your relationships with loved ones. This is especially important around the 9th and 10th when your relationship planets each take some heavy hits.
The Sun, Mercury and Venus moving through your romance sector may just turn out to be your saving grace. Focus your energy on making love not war, and on channeling those emotions into something that heals rather than destroys.
GEMINI: The Siren
You’re going to encounter more than your share of temptations this month — both in the love and romance department and with respect to your finances.
Starting with relationship: Your ruler (Mercury) spends most of the month in your romance sector, while Mars spends the last half of the month in your relationship sector. Thing can get sticky as Mars rules friendships and casual relationships for you. As a result, the lines between friends and lovers can become inexplicably blurred.
In the meantime, starting around the 9th, there’s a tricky configuration involving Mercury, Jupiter and Pluto that can see you making significant financial missteps.
The concepts of seduction and temptation are present in both of these scenarios. The first involves the allure of a romantic entanglement that can become problematic down the road. The second involves the potential for financial risk and / or folly.
The Siren is this deck’s version of the Devil card. In it we see one of the famed mythical sirens who were known for luring unsuspecting seafarers into the rocks. This is such a great representation of the allure of the Devil archetype. It’s both tantalizing and dangerous at the same time.
You’re likely to encounter some very compelling temptations this month. In the form of romantic entanglements and financial ambiguities. You’ll need to keep your wits about you and steer clear of anything that smacks of speculation or instant gratification. Allowing yourself to get caught up in the allure of the Siren can have far-reaching consequences in the end.
CANCER: The One Torn Asunder
This month may see you putting certain aspects of your life on-hold — or dealing with it involuntarily via circumstances beyond your control.
The One Torn Asunder is this deck’s version of the Hanged Man. In it we see two young nymphs finding the dismembered head of the greek god Orpheus — still singing — as it comes to rest near the Island of Lesbos.
Orpheus was “torn asunder” by a group of maenads — devotees of Dionysus — thus making the ultimate sacrifice. He may have lost his life, but his severed head was recovered by the nymphs and transformed into a powerful oracle.
Relationships may be particularly burdensome for you this month — with Saturn moving through your romance sector and Pluto turning direct in your relationship sector. These are two really “heavy” energies and while they are in mutual reception, they also make it very difficult to remain casual or light-hearted.
As such, you may choose to back away from serious relationships this month or put them on hold. You may also find yourself retreating from outer world activities and turning inward for wisdom an guidance.
Sacrifices — of your time or energy — are usually a requisite of this card. It can manifest as necessary delays or obstacles; the meaning behind which will only be revealed in time.
It can also manifest as a rite of passage for you, as you turn away from that which no longer sustains you, and move toward that which feeds your spirit. As the Hanged Man — or in this case the One Torn Asunder — puts obstacles in your path, know that the rewards that come as a result make it all worthwhile in the end.
LEO: Hero of Wands
As Jupiter continues its trek — full speed ahead — through your sign this month, you’ll likely be feeling more confident and enthusiastic about the direction your life is heading.
The Hero of Wands — reminiscent of traditional tarot’s King of Wands — represents the quintessential “Leo” energy. He’s bold, assertive, dynamic and confident.
He’s passionate and driven, also like the King of Wands. Powerful. Authoritative and Commanding. But there’s courage, bravery and fearlessness present in this version that lends him a “larger than life” persona and renders him unstoppable.
The Hero in this version of the card is none other than Marcus Curtius, the legendary soldier who sacrificed his life for the inhabitants of his beloved Rome.
When a giant pit developed in the Roman Forum, it was ordained that only the City’s most prized possessions could satisfy and fill it. Marcus Curtius, knowing instinctively that the Romans prized courage and bravery above all else, mounted his stallion and leapt into the chasm, which closed immediately.
The devotion and chivalry that are present in this card are qualities that we might all strive to possess. But for you this month they’re imperative.
As Jupiter continues its journey through your sign, remember that you may be called upon to act with the same nobility and honor as the Hero of Wands possesses. The challenge will be finding a way to minimize the severity of any personal sacrifices you’ have to make, while still conducting yourself with integrity and grace.
VIRGO: The Lovers
This month it’s going to be all about relationships for you, with Venus moving into your sigh on the 5th and the Full Moon taking place in your relationship sector on the 8th.
This doesn’t mean it will be without challenges. Venus is debilitated in Virgo, meaning that even though it’s in your sign it’s somewhat weakened by its inability to express the Venusian principles in ways that are in line with status quo expectations.
This doesn’t mean you’re doomed: far from it. It means you have to work to figure out ways to make your own unique relationship paradigm satisfying for you.
Additionally, the Full Moon is conjuncting Chiron this month, bringing in layers of woundedness and personal sacrifice. Moon / Chiron aspects can intensify feelings of vulnerability and can make it difficult to separate someone else’s suffering from your own.
The figures in this version of the card — Cupid and Psyche — overcame many challenges to be together. Theirs is a story of love, but also loss, separation, betrayal of trust, and ultimate triumph.
So too may you be confronted with an entire gamut of relationship experiences this month. Especially as Venus moves up to that Full Moon / Chiron point, between the 18th and 20th.
The good news is that you too can triumph — just like Cupid and Psyche. How you handle the challenges thrown your way will determine the outcome, so be mindful of your actions as well as your decisions during this time.
LIBRA: Four of Coins
This month you may have to think about what you’re holding onto that’s keeping you from moving forward.
“Coins” is often automatically presumed to mean money — and there is some of that, courtesy of the Mars / Saturn transit currently making its way through your financial sector. But it can extend to other areas as well, such as personal values, principles and belief systems.
The concepts of hoarding and squandering are depicted in this version of the card by the Greek god Narcissus, who became so enamored with his own reflection that he was unable to turn away. As a result he missed out on opportunities to take part in the world around him and to experience the love of another.
Ask yourself, what are you holding onto too tightly and what potential opportunities are you missing out on as a result? It could be money or material possessions; or it could be loved ones or ideals. Whatever it is, remember that in protecting your own assets and keeping peril at bay, you’re also preventing new experiences from getting in.
One of the more positive aspects of this card is the idea of falling in love with yourself. We all know that this is the first step toward establishing healthy relationships with others. But taken too far — as in the case with Narcissus — it can lead to the degradation of love’s purest essence.
Remember that fear — along with greed, stinginess, avarice, etc. — is a symptom of a much greater problem. It can stop you in your tracks and prevent you from acquiring the very things you want. The fear or not having enough — or of losing what you already have — can reverberate endlessly like the ripples in Narcissus’ stream.
The New Moon in your sign on the 24th can act as a springboard for you to make some important changes. The Four of Coins encourages you to let go of your fears and open your heart.
SCORPIO: The Threads of Fate
This month should see you thinking about the ups and downs in your life and how they’ve led you to where you are today.
The Wheel of Fortune — “Threads of Fate” in this deck — refers to the natural rhythms and cycles that manifest in your life as change. It could be that you’re trying to find the meaning behind what seem like random occurrences, or you may be wrestling with the concepts of cause and effect as they apply to you personally.
There are elements of karma and fatedness associated with this card. These concepts are illustrated beautifully here by the famed Moirai, or apportioners of destiny. The Moirai were sisters — often portrayed at different stages in life — who spun, measured and cut the threads of fate for every mortal.
Aside from the moments of birth and death, the Wheel of Fortune just keeps on spinning. There is no beginning or end, much like the rhythms in our own lives.
Saturn is moving through the last half of your sign now (leaving in December and returning for a brief period in the Summer of 2015). It’s been referred to as the “Lord of Karma” due to its associations with both Time and Fate. This transit can create obstacles but it also brings rewards. You’ll be both sewing and reaping your own karma during this time.
The Wheel of Fortune refers as much to creating your own destiny — and mastering your own fate — as it does to dealing with karmic repercussions. As with any rotating surface, there’s much less motion in the center. So if you find yourself sliding down (physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually), remind yourself that it’s only a momentary state.
The key to mitigating the “down time” is to find your own center and stay there. Rather that seeing yourself tied to that karmic wheel, you want to work on overcoming the conditioning that’s held you there in the past.
SAGITTARIUS: Ace of Wands
Your focus this month is going to be on taking charge of your life and making your goals a reality.
The Ace of Wands is all about manifesting your dreams and desires. Taking your life in your own hands. Following your Bliss. And going after your goals with the kind of gusto that makes saying “Yes!” an absolute rather than a maybe.
Mars moves into your sign the 13th, which sets in a motion a nice line-up of “fire planets” in “fire houses.” Uranus is still retrograde in your romance sector, but nicely aspecting Jupiter (your ruling planet ) in your 9th house.
So what does this mean for you? Increased confidence, drive and enthusiasm. Ardor. Vitality. Passion. Especially in the love and romance department.
The woman in this card is strong and dynamic. She’s not exactly “looking for love;” she’s self-reliant and capable of forging her path on her own. Still she radiates a kind of drive and determination that’s bound to attract suitors.
The reds and golds in this card are suggestive of fire and passion; the jaguar pelt refers to animal instincts and sexual prowess. The flaming scepter — her “wand” — does more than just light her way. It defends and protects her from any danger that lies ahead.
If you’re already in an established relationship, you can expect that to be more fulfilling — especially as the focus is on getting your needs met, rather than surrendering to someone else’s power.
This energy spills over into other areas of your life: particularly travel, education, personal expansion and creative self-expression. Either way you want to offer your intentions out to the Universe this month with the confidence that they will be fulfilled.
CAPRICORN: Seven of Cups
This month you may have to work on separating fact from fantasy and dreams from reality as you work your way toward achieving your goals.
With Mars moving through your 12th house and the Full Moon in Pisces taking place in your 3rd, you may be tempted to retreat into a world of fantasy and illusion rather than dealing with mundane affairs.
In this version of the card, we see the young moon-goddess Brizo luring a pondful of frenzied fish to the surface with her Lyre. She herself seems lost in a daze, or she may be just listening for messages from the oracle over which she presides.
Brizo was a seer who specialized in the interpretations of dreams. She came to the Island in search of sanctuary — protection from the lust-driven deities who pursued her relentlessly. She was possessed with an ethereal and mesmerizing beauty that in the end charmed more than fish.
The Seven of Cups is a card of temptations, often fueled by irrational thoughts or fantasies. There are sometimes too many options available, which makes it hard to decide. But more often it’s a case of wishful thinking and foolish day-dreaming that can interfere with actual progress.
This is one of the issues with the Seven of Cups. What you long for may look so appealing while what you have appears so drab. But it’s just an illusion and even if it weren’t — even if it were perfectly attainable — it’s not going to come about by sitting around day dreaming about it.
Your goal therefore should be to take the time this month to figure out what it is you really want to do. Stay focused on your objectives and don’t allow yourself to be tempted by the allure of meaningless distractions.
AQUARIUS: Justice
This month you may be called upon to make some very difficult decisions.
The Justice card refers specifically to knowing (and acting on) the difference between right and wrong. But it also usually involves finding a middle ground between opposing forces: cause and effect, action and consequence, head and heart, etc.
In this version of the card we meet the goddess Circe as she offers a cup of her magic potion to Odysseus. The potion was meant to lull him to sleep and put him under her spell, with the wand in her other hand poised to turn him into swine.
But Odysseus had been forewarned by Hermes and disarmed her before she attacked. He fought cunning and treachery (hers) with logic and strategy (his), exacting the release of his men and thus Justice.
The Justice card calls for you to look at all sides of a situation before you make a decision, especially if the “right answer” is unclear. You may have to remove yourself from the equation completely, or detach yourself enough from any personal investment to make a fair determination.
It may be a situation that you’re personally involved in, such as a relationship that tugs at your heartstrings but is not in alignment with your principles. Or you may be asked to mediate a disagreement among friends or family members.
It isn’t about choosing sides. It’s about being able to tap into the “truth” objectively and impartially. In the end you’ll have to live with the fallout from your choices — for better or worse. So be sure you know which side of the fence you’re on before you take a stand.
PISCES: Eight of Swords
This month you may have to think about how much control you have over the circumstances in your life. How much is self-imposed and how much is out of your hands?
The Eight of Swords can refer to isolation or imprisonment. Feeling rejected and unsupported by others. Feeling powerless and alone.
But in most versions of the card — including this one in some respects — the “way out” of your self-imposed prison is clear to everyone but you. You just need to open your eyes.
In this version of the card we meet the goddess Andromeda, who’s been stripped and shackled to a rock as a sacrifice to the sea monster Cetus. She closes her eyes and awaits her fate — because she doesn’t see how there is any way out of her predicament.
She’s not prepared to fight; in fact she submits to her fate willingly. She’s resigned herself to the outcome that was mandated by the gods because she doesn’t feel she’s worthy of saving.
In this respect the Eight of Swords is about a sense of powerlessness brought on by external conflicts and obstacles. But it’s impossible to see it that way when you’re busy beating yourself up over it.
This story does have a happy ending, and so can yours. It will take courage and self-awareness to break free of the chains that bind you. The way out though is right there before you; you just need to open your eyes.
