ARIES: Eight of Wands
You may have so much on your plate this month that it feels like “rush rush rush” for you as you scramble to get things accomplished.
The Eight of Wands — this version from the beautiful Crystal Visions Tarot — is all about action, progress and momentum. It’s about getting things done and making things happen.
It may be as simple as ticking off all the little things on your to-do list, and it may be as significant as making great headway on an important project.
While it might feel to you like there just aren’t enough hours in the day, you could be surprised when the month is over to see how much you really accomplished.
The Eight of Wands is a high energy card and also sometimes refers to travel. In that respect it relates to being literally and physically on the go. Are you planning a weekend getaway? Use this extra energy to make preparations for your trip.
Look at the Eight Unicorns galloping down the canyon on this card. They’re raring to go and although not all of them are moving in the same direction, they’ all appear to know exactly where they’re going.
Mars (your ruler) is now moving through Sagittarius, which works very well with this energy: both the imagery of “wild horses” and the idea of travel. And while it will be turning retrograde later in the month, you won’t want to be sitting home and letting your thoughts gather dust.
Now is the time to make sure your get up and go actually goes somewhere — whether that means tackling a mountain of chores or heading off on an exciting new adventure.
TAURUS: Knight of Pentacles
This month you may be taking a more serious look at where you’re heading, with respect to your career, your professional goals, your education, your finances and your “brand.”
The Knight of Pentacles — this version from the Gypsy Palace Tarot — is generally all about taking things slow and steady with a keen eye on the future and the discipline to keep “plodding along” as you move toward your destiny.
As with all the court cards, this can be someone presently in your life (or coming in) or it can represent a frame of mind that’s necessary for you adopt right now.
Don’t make the mistake though of focusing too much on the nuts and bolts of achieving success. If there’s any negative aspect that can be associated with this card it’s usually the dearth of inspiration that can lead to getting stuck in a rut of tedium and routine.
But this Knight of Pentacles doesn’t appear to be lacking in inspiration at all. We see him pausing at the onset of a vibrant and colorful path, reaching up to the heavens. Is he praying for guidance or expressing his gratitude? The greatest obstacles are behind him. He steps out of the darkness and into the light and sees a great big colorful world out there ahead of him.
If the Knight of Pentacles is someone in your life right now, know that he may not be where he wants to be just yet, but he has his eye on the future and there is no doubt that he knows where he’s going. His gait is measured and sight is keen. He will be someone you depend on to do what he sets out to do.
If on the other hand this card refers to you — as in some new educational or professional undertaking — you definitely want to look before you leap. The Knight of Pentacles reminds you that good things do come to those who wait, especially if the focus is on preparation and planning.
GEMINI: White Tiger Four
With Mars and Saturn both moving through your relationship sector — and both retrograde by the end of the month — you may feel the need to step back from social connections, or you may even feel somewhat shut out.
Patience and perseverance are going to be on the menu for you, especially if you find yourself running into roadblocks, such as unexpected obstacles or delays.
The White Tiger Four is the Feng Shui Tarot’s version of the Four of Swords. This card generally refers to a need for quiet, stillness, meditation and rest.
It can refer to a desire to retreat from all of the distractions in your life and reflect rather than “act.” It speaks of detaching from the whirlwind of activity around you and choosing to observe rather than participate.
But the emphasis here is more on restraint and self control… How easy would it be for that Tiger to leap over the bamboo fence and pounce on those sweet little songbirds? Or reach one of his mighty paws through the opening before they even knew he was there?
He may be just biding his time and waiting for the right moment. Perhaps he senses that the little birds could just as easily take flight and leave him there empty handed.
The bamboo fence is flimsy and falling apart. A portion of it is already missing. But even if it weren’t, it’s clear that it’s not strong enough to keep the Tiger at bay. Yet he watches and waits. He observes rather than reacts.
You may find yourself in a similar position this month, especially after the 18th when Mars goes retrograde. If you’re willing to wait for the right moment, exercising discipline and restraint can pay off for you in the end.
CANCER: Two of Wands
Your card this month is the Two of Wands, from Nathalie Hertz’s stunning Fantastical Tarot.
The Two of Wands — like all Twos — refers to taking the spark of an idea (seen in the Aces) and forming it into a tangible, working plan.
This requires looking at it from all angles — weighing the pros and cons, evaluating time and energy, separating the wheat from the chaff and so on. This is beautifully represented in the imagery depicted on this version of the card.
Here we see two leopards — one dark and one light — each standing watch by their own ornate pillars. The dark leopard is an exact mirror image of the light. Their sleek bodies curve toward one another and become “one,” reminding us of the power of uniting opposing forces to make one stronger entity. The Sun shines high in the sky between them.
The key here is balance: you won’t be able to make something happen without careful consideration and planning. And all the planning in the world won’t cause your ideas to materialize without putting in the effort.
There’s a certain give and take with the Two of Wands (as with all Twos in the tarot) that is mirrored right back to you. There’s also a need for discrimination — throwing out the unrealistic or half-baked ideas and focusing on what has a genuine shot at being successful. The Two of Wands requires you to be objective and this is why it’s always wise to bounce your ideas off of another.
If you want to make something happen this month, prove it by participating in its development. The outcome you achieve will be directly proportionate to the energy you put into making it manifest.
LEO: The Wanderer
This month should see you filled with enthusiasm and anticipation for whatever adventures come your way.
The Wanderer card (the Fool, in traditional decks) fits in beautifully with this dynamic, as it relates to being open to new experiences without regard for where they may ultimately lead.
Here we see a young woman striding toward the edge of a cliff, barefoot and unburdened by material possessions. Her arms are wide open and her gait is purposeful, even knowing that the path before her is partially obscured by clouds. There’s a waterfall on the other side and a shimmering rainbow bridge leading to it, but if you look closely you can also see the rocky terrain far below.
A fall would be treacherous but somehow you know she’s not going to fall. Her faith and her optimism and her willingness to seize the day will see her safely to the other side. This is the essence of the Wanderer card — this version from the beautiful Wildwood Tarot. It’s about taking a leap of faith and being open to going wherever the moment takes you.
Notice that the clouds in this card partially obscure the Wanderer’s path. It’s also reflected in the concept of surrender that is a necessary part of taking that leap of faith.
You want to think about these concepts, especially as they apply to opportunities that present themselves to you this month. It’s not the time to fret about details or focus on what could possibly go wrong.
You do want to keep your wits about you, and unlike the woman in this card you do want to watch your step. But immersing yourself fully in the journey — rather than thinking too hard or focusing too much on the destination — can open up a whole new world of possibilities for you that you won’t want to miss.
VIRGO: Page of Swords
Pay attention to messages you receive this month as they may be veiled or cloaked in double meanings.
The Page of Swords — this version from the original Mythic Tarot — is a messenger card and is known for ferreting out the truth. But this “two-faced” version implies that things are not always as they seem and may come about through deception or duplicity.
You may uncover a deception or meet with someone whose motives prove to be disingenuous. Or you may have the be the bearer of uncomfortable news yourself, in which case you find yourself needing to deliver it carefully and diplomatically.
The Page of Swords is all about communications, ideas, information and news. He (or she) is generally very curious, a good judge of character, quick to size up others and able to see through ulterior motives and agendas.
In this respect it’s very difficult to hide anything from the Page of Swords. Yet this Page appears to be good at hiding his own true motives: presenting one face to the outer world while hiding his true identity in the background.
Communications are going to be important this month, keeping in mind that the potential for being at odds with others or getting into a disagreement with someone is high. But be careful that you don’t make assumptions about someone’s motives that turn out to be colored by your own paranoia. The downside of this card is the potential for distorting information or reading into it something that is simply not there.
The challenge for you is to figure out a way to look at the whole picture without accepting things at face value. While there’s likely to be more than meets the eye with respect to any communications, your goal should be to work on getting at the truth and disregarding anything that detracts you from that goal.
Libra: Ace of Cups
You may feel as though your Cup is running over this month — physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
The Ace of Cups is a card of promise and opportunity, a new or fresh perspective that is mirrored right back to you by the Universe.
All Aces are related to new and unformed energy. So even if it does manifest as something material for you — a new romantic interest or some form of external validation for example — the bottom line is that it creates a “feel good” energy which reverberates throughout your very being.
As this is the Ace of Cups, and Cups refer to emotions, intuition and feelings, it’s likely to manifest on one of these levels. Love and romance for starters. But also affection, intimacy, closeness and the expression of feelings.
This version of the card — from the Goddess Tarot — features the Venus symbol prominently, as it is etched into the golden chalice from which the Sun also rises. Venus is tied to love, beauty, creativity and values, all of which should be easily accessible for you this month.
The Sun’s luminous rays combine with the contents of the chalice and spill over into a shimmering pool of light. Think of how many opportunities you have — some you may not have yet considered. This card represents opportunities for happiness and fulfillment. It speaks of fertility, birth, newness and promise.
This month is going to be ripe with potential and opportunity for you. What you make of it — and how open you are to the possibilities before you — is entirely up to you!
SCORPIO: Six of Cups
You may feel the urge this month to reach out to those who remind you of life’s simpler pleasures, such as a family member or a childhood friend.
The Six of Cups this version from the gorgeous Shadowscapes Tarot — speaks of innocence, wonder, sentimentality and reminiscing about the past. You may be missing someone, longing for the comforts and companionships that have gone by the wayside over time.
You could also hear from an old friend unexpectedly. Someone who’s been on your mind and who takes you on a trip down memory lane, reminding you of long-forgotten events that come rushing back to you in a wave of nostalgia.
This card is also about fantasy and make-believe. Notice the young girl in this card hosting a tea-part among her imaginary friends. Along with her treasured childhood toys there are birds, fish, fairies and elves.
Five of the six cups are teacups and the sixth is a golden vessel on an outcropping by the stream.
There are symbols here of abundance (fish), emotions (water), and luck (the 6th golden vessel). But it’s the sweetness and sincerity that stands out the most. This is also true of memories — especially the happier memories — which tend to take on softer hues when we look back on them with longing.
You may be missing someone this month, or looking forward to a reunion with someone from your past. Old memories may come flooding in. And while it may not be useful for you to dwell too long on them, the overall feelings are those of genuine contentment and goodwill.
SAGITTARIUS: The Emperor
This is a good month to take stock of where you are and where want to be and what steps you need to get there. The image on this card — the Emperor from the Tarot of Reflections — card shows power. Power within yourself and power that is reflected to others.
Saturn is retrograde now and moving through your sign (along with Mars, which will also be retrograde this month). Although Saturn can be a hard task master he’s also practical, grounded and fair. The ankh in his right hand shows that spirituality is being mixed with authority and answers will come. The ram on the right shoulder gives a hint to something new and fresh coming into your life bringing with it all the skills and talents you will need to make it your own.
If you are dealing with any authority figures this month it is best to go in well prepared and not to leave anything left undone or to chance. The figure in this card demands respect. He knows what s/he wants and how to get it and if this figure is you then, like the shadows in the background of the image, you will leave everyone behind as you stride forward and take what is rightfully yours.
The color green suggests you do so with grace and ease and whilst no one opposes you it may be because they know you are right and that your actions will also benefit them further down the line.
The throne that you sit upon implies that you will see through to the end that which you wish to accomplish in perhaps an unusual way. Whilst the Emperor is a pretty straightforward card this card implies there is something of the extraordinary about you and perhaps this is the secret to your success.
As can be seen in the reds and purples adorning the figure in this image full use is being made of all talents. Purple represents spirituality and messages from a higher realm whilst red represents action and base instincts. Notice how the face reflects onto itself in both modes. You are using both qualities to their best degree and you will go far by doing so.
CAPRICORN: King of Cups
Your card for this month is the King of Cups from the beautiful Tarot of Dürer. It’s all about getting in touch with your emotions and learning to express them in a healthy mature manner.
The Kings — as with all of the court cards — will often describe an individual entering your life as a facilitator for an important lessons. In this case as it’s Cups (called “Chalices” in this deck) that lesson refers to the realm of feelings, emotions, instinct and intuition.
The King in this version is seated on a throne that rises of the ocean like a pedestal. His robes are ornate although somewhat weathered. His crown and his chalice are both gold. An elephant and a seahorse adorn his shield — a clear reference to his reign over land and sea.
Although this King is kind and compassionate, he’s nobody’s fool. He’s not easily persuaded or manipulated and he doesn’t get caught up in maudlin sentimentality. The seas around him may be turbulent, but he maintains his calm as he keeps a watchful eye on the horizon.
The King of Cups encourages you to be compassionate while still maintaining an air of authority. It speaks of developing a clear emotional radar without becoming wishy washy. And it speaks of getting a better understanding of your emotions without becoming overpowered by them.
If this is someone who has entered your life, pay attention to what he or she has to teach you. It may be as simple as observing how others conduct themselves in emotionally-charged situations. And it may be as complicated as trying to navigate the murky waters of manipulation, projection and denial.
You may be experiencing strong emotions yourself as they unexpectedly bubble to the surface. If this is the case. take a page out of the King of Cups’ book and try to deal with them with wisdom, grace and maturity.
AQUARIUS: Ace of Rings
This month marks the potential for a new beginning and new opportunities for you — especially in the areas of business, money and material worth.
As this month’s New Moon on the 7th conjuncts your ruler (Uranus) in Aries — and the Sun follows suit a few days later — you’re likely to run into unexpected opportunities for financial gain.
But the Ace of Rings is not just about making money. It’s about keeping things new and fresh and alive. It’s about ingenuity. It’s about spontaneity and creativity. The fact that all these things can and do lead to making money is just icing on the cake.
The central figure in this card — from Doug Thornsjo’s beautiful Tarot of the Zirkus Magi — is a clown who’s taken a moment away from all the hustle and bustle going on around him to bring some levity to his surroundings. He’s poked his head through the center of an arcade ball toss game and sticks his tongue out at spectators.
There are nostalgic references to this card, like the classic cartoon figures placed around the perimeter of the ring and the name on the card: Winter Quarters. This is “home” for the circus performers. It’s where they retreat to in preparation for the next season.
The Ace of Rings is says it’s time to think about what you value, which extends to well beyond money and material things. It says it’s time to look at what you put out there and what you get back in exchange.
It encourages you to take chances, to try your hand at something new and to participate in your own energetic exchange. Take this opportunity keep the ball rolling — or the wheel spinning in this case — and stretch your money-making prospects even further.
PISCES: Wealth
This month you want to be thinking about your future, especially with respect to your security and financial stability.
The Wealth card — the Vision Quest Tarot’s version of the Ten of Pentacles — is about building your empire, on whatever scale that might be.
It’s about achieving success through hard work and determination, as well as the satisfaction that comes with knowing that it’s all going to pay off in the end. Not just for you but for family and loved ones, as this card is also about creating a legacy that can be built on for generations to come.
The “pentacles” in this version are ten intricately woven baskets, displayed alongside a bountiful harvest of summer fruits and winter vegetables. These are seen as a reminder of the importance of both appreciating what you have now and planning toward the future.
The greens and golds so prominent in this card are also significant. These are the colors associated with wealth, prosperity and abundance. Notice how the baskets are fashioned in the shape of a human form, lifted up on plentiful hills of grain — the earth’s most sustainable resource.
The Ten of Pentacles is about establishing a lasting legacy for yourself and your loved ones. It’s about enjoying and appreciating what you have while planning ahead for the future. No matter how successful you are there’s always more to be done, especially as it pertains to creating something that will live on long after you’re gone. You may be thinking of starting a family or putting money aside for children you already have.
You could also be in the process of giving birth to something else — a business, a creative endeavor or a body of work. Whatever it is, know that this is something you want to be proud of, so put the extra energy into making sure you do it right.
