ARIES: Six of Swords
You may be on the verge of making important changes in your life, and in doing so will have to think about what you’re taking with you and what you need to leave behind.
This doesn’t necessarily mean material things; in fact that’s rarely what it means. It’s more about attitudes and belief systems, as well as a life you may have built and dreams you may have dreamed that are no longer capable of sustaining you.
The Six of Swords — this version from the Morgan Greer Tarot — is a card of transition and change. Moving from one “place” to another, if only in your mind. Notice how the woman in this card is huddled and shrouded from view. She’s protecting herself from more than just the elements.
She may be mourning the loss of her previous existence, or she may be reflecting on the choices she’s made to leave it all behind. She’s put her faith in the ferryman to get to her safely to her new destination.
Notice too that while the waves are choppy beneath them, they start to smooth out the closer they get to the other shore. And speaking of that other shore, the landscape’s silhouette appears to be promising. It’s lush, flourishing and full of potential.
This is the message behind the Six of Swords. You may not be where you want to be just yet, but you’re moving in the right direction. The Six of Swords reminds us that we’re not alone. We don’t get to the other side without assistance from someone, even when that “assistance” comes in the form of a setback that forces us to change direction.
It also provides clarity and perspective. We may see things we don’t want to see — or admit to ourselves — but it’s that kind of clarity that motivates us toward change. Take some time this month to reflect on where you are and where you want to be heading. This is the first step, courtesy of the Six of Swords, toward manifesting your goals.
TAURUS: The High Priestess
This is going to be a time for getting in touch with your intuition, listening to your inner voice and exploring the intricate workings of your psyche.
The High Priestess — this version from Dana Driscoll’s beautiful Tarot of Trees — represents a need to turn inward and look for the deeper meanings in your life; it challenges you to look beneath the surface and find hidden nuggets of information that can help you round out the vast reservoirs of knowledge you already possess.
It speaks of insight and awareness, psychic perceptions and intuition, and a sense of “knowing” even when there is not a factual basis for it.
In this version of the card, the High Priestess is represented by an ornate and mysterious tree, seated in a crescent Moon and framed by twin pillars which curve around it like an all-seeing eye.
The tree’s branches curve intricately up toward the heavens while the roots hold pomegranates, which are seen as fertility symbols in some cultures and forbidden fruits in others.
The High Priestess is at home in the world of arcane knowledge and esoterica. She’s both young and old, masculine and feminine, innocent and wise. She is the keeper of secrets, knowledge and mystery.
You may be getting more in touch with your own intuition or experiencing profound instances or deja vu or synchronicity. It’s important to embrace these visions and try to understand them, rather than shying away from them. They can bring insights into not only your own personal choices, but the direction you need to be heading in the coming weeks.
GEMINI: Princess of Cups
July may see you giving it your all and diving wholeheartedly into a world of intuition, emotion, imagination and creativity.
The Princess of Cups — this version from the gorgeous Röhrig Tarot — refers to a child-like wonder and enthusiasm as well as a sense of play. It speaks of throwing caution to the wind and following your dreams.
It’s an exuberant and joyful energy that stems from the expectation that you’ll succeed, rather than worrying that you might fail.
The Princess in this card is uninhibited and unrestrained. She throws herself freely into the ethers, not thinking any more about where she came from than she is about where she’s headed.
There are references in this card to faith (trusting in the process) and awareness (moving from darkness to light) as well as liberation. The feather represents both buoyancy and flight, and the clouds represent uncertainty and the unknown.
Speaking of clouds, Venus moves into your sign this month and squares Neptune in Pisces — the sign associated with dreams, fantasies, intuition and psychic impressions. This aspect can cloud your thoughts and have you wondering what’s real and what’s not.
The Princess of Cups may be a person in your life. Someone youthful and naive, with a child-like curiosity and trust in the Universe. If so, know that she’s here to teach you to embrace these qualities within yourself.
Because the Princesses embody such youthful and unrefined energies, we tend to forget that they too have much to teach us. But the presence of this card is an important reminder of how much more we still need to learn.
CANCER: The Sun
This month you want to focus on what’s right in your world rather than what might be wrong. The Sun card is all about happiness, optimism and vitality: it’s about being present in the moment and celebrating being alive.
Look around you and take notice of the blessings that surround you. Step away — at least mentally — and turn your attention away from work and mundane affairs long enough to soak in the energizing rays of the Sun.
The Sun card — this version from the Crystal Visions Tarot — represents energy and vitality. Feeling happy to be alive. Getting in touch with your inner child, your true authentic spirit, the part of you that longs to embrace life with ever fiber of your being.
When we think of the Sun, we think of warmth, light and life. It warms our spirits as well as our bodies; it brightens our moods as well as the outside world, and it brings life to our dreams and goals as well as to every living thing on the planet.
The Sun card in the Tarot is much the same way. It refers to the wonder and glory of being alive. Of feeling warm, confident, radiant and spirited. Its attitude is that “everything is as it should be,” for you and all around you.
The Sun reflects your own inner light and inspires you to let it shine. It encourages you to say yes to life rather than letting your troubles hold you back. It tells you to turn your face to the Sun rather rather than looking back over your shoulder toward whatever caused you to dim your light in the first place.
The Sun card is all about optimism, enthusiasm and personal radiance. It’s about being yourself and allowing yourself to “shine,” without any pretense or constraint. No matter where you are in the world, the Sun is still shines. We may not always see it but it’s always there — and serves as a reminder of the warmth and vitality that each of us possess
LEO: Four of Coins
This month, you want to be thinking about aligning yourself with a prosperity consciousness and making your money work for you.
The Four of Coins is sometimes just the opposite — holding too tightly to what you have or being too resistant to change.
But as you can see from the joyful figure in this card, it doesn’t have to be. It’s the difference between allowing yourself to be trapped by the reality you’ve created for yourself, and seeing it as a living, breathing and growing extension of you.
The Four of Coins — this version from the gorgeous Chinese Tarot by Jui Guoliang — can refer to a poverty consciousness or a hoarding mentality that creates blockages in your life and prevents new things from coming in.
In this regard it’s also about trust — or a lack of trust more specifically. The implication is that someone could take something from you (something you’ve ascribed a false sense of value to), which prompts you to hold on even more tightly (or hide it away).
Ask yourself, what are you holding onto too tightly and what potential opportunities are you missing out on as a result? It could be money or material possessions; or it could be loved ones or ideals. Whatever it is, remember that in protecting your own assets and keeping peril at bay, you’re also preventing new experiences from getting in.
The fear that something could be taken away from you can prevent you from allowing something new to come in. But loosening up the strings a bit — like the figure in this card — can shatter that concept and turn it on its head.
Remember that the Universe doesn’t appreciate a vacuum. Letting go of your fears and aligning yourself with this consciousness can let the darkness (avarice, hoarding) out and the light (enlightenment, prosperity) in. Think about sharing what you have with others, and giving something back.
VIRGO: Ace of Cups
You may feel as though your Cup is running over this month — physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
The Ace of Cups is a card of promise and opportunity, a new or fresh perspective that is mirrored right back to you by the Universe.
The Ace of Cups, from the gorgeous Goddess Tarot — features the Venus (love) symbol prominently, as it is etched into the golden chalice from which the Sun also rises. The Sun’s luminous rays combine with the contents of the chalice and spill over into a shimmering pool of light.
This represents a period of bringing Venus forward again, and releasing her energy back into the light.
The Ace of Cups represents a bottomless and reflective pool of love, compassion and emotional expression. You want to open your heart and let that love flow both from you and to you — while at the same time keeping your boundaries clearly defined.
All Aces are related to new and unformed energy. So even if it does manifest as something material — a new love interest or some form of external validation for example — the bottom line is that it creates a “feel good” energy which reverberates throughout your very being.
Think of how many opportunities you have — some you may not have yet considered. This card represents opportunities for happiness and fulfillment. It speaks of fertility, birth, newness and promise.
As this is the Ace of Cups, and Cups refer to emotions, intuition and feelings, it’s likely to manifest on one of these levels. Love and romance for starters. But also affection, intimacy, sharing, closeness and the expression of feelings. The Ace of Cups is ripe with potential and opportunity for all of these things. What you do with them — and how open you are to the possibilities before you — is entirely up to you.
Libra: Four of Swords
Patience and perseverance are on the menu for you this month, as can be seen by the imagery in this card.
The White Tiger Four is the Feng Shui Tarot’s version of the Four of Swords. This card generally refers to a need for quiet, stillness, meditation and rest.
It can refer to a desire to retreat from all of the distractions in your life and reflect rather than “act.” It speaks of detaching from the whirlwind of activity around you and choosing to observe rather than participate.
But the emphasis here is more on restraint and self control… How easy would it be for that Tiger to leap over the bamboo fence and pounce on those sweet little songbirds? Or reach one of his mighty paws through the opening before they even knew he was there?
He may be just biding his time and waiting for the right moment. Perhaps he senses that the little birds could just as easily take flight and leave him there empty handed.
The bamboo fence is flimsy and falling apart. A portion of it is already missing. But even if it weren’t, it’s clear that it’s not strong enough to keep the Tiger at bay. Yet he watches and waits. He observes rather than reacts.
You may find yourself in a similar position this month, especially with your ruler moving through calm, patient, gentle Taurus. If you’re willing to wait for the right moment, exercising discipline and restraint can pay off for you in the end.
While you may feel like you’re being bombarded with a lot of external noise and stimuli, you’d be best served to stay calm and carry on, rather than let yourself fall out of balance. The Four of Swords reminds you of the need to take care of your inner needs as much as you need to take care of your outer ones.
Scorpio: The Star
This month may see you counting your blessings and encountering reminders that even in our darkest hours there is still room for hope. There’s still compassion, redemption and the promise of salvation.
The Star card — from Marie White’s stunning Mary-el Tarot — brings this reminder to life, with the Star taking an angelic form and spreading her love out over a sea of humanity.
The angel figure in this card glides through, above and among an infinite crowd of nameless / faceless beings. She is above them and at one with them at the same time. A unicursal hexigram is imprinted on her gown and the stigmata markings of Christ are imprinted on her skin.
The human figures in this card spread out as far as the eyes can see, becoming one with the landscape and the angel herself. You can see their forms becoming less and less distinct as they blend into the hills and valleys that stretch back toward the horizon.
This is a time for understanding, acceptance and forgiveness. The Star card is associated with communion, compassion and unconditional love. It’s associated with dreams and visions, beauty, harmony, kindness and grace. It’s also associated with sacrifice, a theme referenced here in the markings on the angel’s palms, feet and forehead.
The unicursal star is a symbol of continuity. It’s also said to reference man reaching up to God and God reaching down to man. This is the message behind the Star card : that we’re not only all “one” but are also all a part of God, however we may experience him (or her).
The Star card reminds us of the need to rise above our petty grievances and to hold onto one another, especially when the going gets tough. As Venus moves into Pisces — on the heels of Mars, Neptune and Chiron — the messages contained in this card can only serve us well.
SAGITTARIUS: Six of Wands
This month, with your ruler (Jupiter) moving forward again through Libra, you should be getting some much-deserved approval or recognition from your peers. The Six of Wands refers to support, approval and acclaim, brought about by something you’ve worked hard to achieve.
You may have been putting a lot of effort into your work and not even realizing that others have taken notice. Or you could be unexpectedly pulled aside by a loved one, just to tell you how much you’re loved and appreciated.
In this version of the card — from the fabulous Wild Unknown Tarot — we see a beautiful blue butterfly emerging from a sparse landscape of dried-out brush. She may have just emerged from her cocoon and is now taking her maiden flight. This simple rendition perfectly depicts both the sense of “standing out in a crowd” and of “rising above triumphantly” that is so much a part of this archetype.
The Six of Wands is a card of appreciation and admiration. You “win” something and have earned the right to be satisfied with the spoils of your victory. This isn’t about ego or conceit and it’s never at someone else’s expense. There’s a strong sense of being supported and lifted up by others who rejoice right along with you.
You could be in line for a promotion or award at work. You could be given the okay to go ahead with a project you’ve been excited about. Or it may be as simple as pat on the back and some words of encouragement by those who look up to you.
Whatever form this takes for you, know that you’ve earned it and that you deserve it. It may just give you the incentive to keep shooting for the stars and manifesting your highest goals.
CAPRICORN: King of Pentacles
You find yourself in a position of power or authority this month, overseeing something that’s become near and dear to your heart.
Perhaps you’ve invested your energy into a business that’s paying off financially. Or maybe you’re seeing results in another area — as in a relationship that’s showing signs of renewal, or a child that’s blossoming under your careful guidance. Whatever it is, you can be sure that it’s your skill and acumen that’s steering the course of success.
If this card represents you in your current capacity, don’t forget the little people — those who’ve helped you get to where you are today and have celebrated your success.
The King of Pentacles — this version from the Deviant Moon Tarot — is a shrewd and cunning businessman who applies these qualities to all areas of his life. Notice his “crown” made up of an industrial type building, as well as the factories, up and running in the dark of night, behind him.
You may be reluctant to delegate responsibility to others. The phrase “if you want something done you may as well do it yourself” speaks directly to you, but may not always be in your best interests. If you struggle with trusting that things will get done without your input, keep in mind that giving up control and allowing others to show you what they’re made of can benefit you more in the end.
Remember the universal laws of attraction: they’re as present as ever in this card. You ‘ll need to shift your energies to those of gratitude and prosperity-consciousness in order to fully appreciate the blessings of this King.
There’s a feminine aspect to this King: note the red lipstick, painted nails, raised pinky and high heeled shoes. He’s not all blustering masculine bravado. The message here seems to be a need to incorporate nurturing and protection if you want to reap the full benefits of your enterprise.
AQUARIUS: Nine of Wands
This month you may need to muster up the courage and conviction to let someone know what you’re no longer willing to stand for. You may have to put your foot down and stand up for your rights.
The Nine of Wands — this version from Nora Huszka’s beautiful Gypsy Palace Tarot — says it’s time to gather your wits and rise up against whatever challenges you face, which means you’re also going to have to push your fears and anxieties aside.
Have you ever heard of the phrase “blowing your stack?” That’s what it looks like the woman in the card is doing. She’s gotten herself so angry and flustered that she’s blown the crown right off of the top of her head.
She’s saying “Get out and don’t come back!” Or maybe it’s “How many times do I have to tell you to get out there and mow the lawn?” Whatever it is, she’s standing up for her rights and is not about to take no for an answer. Even the cats beside her cower in fear.
The Nine of Wands can have you asking yourself “what else could go wrong?” and “how much more of this can I take?” when life seems to throw you one curve-ball after another. It calls for perseverance and determination, especially if you find yourself starting to wonder whether the Universe is conspiring against you.
While you may need to take a breather, remember that you’re almost at the finish line and closer to your goals than you thought. So dust yourself off, get back to work, and push yourself past this final test.
The Nine of Wands is all about stamina, perseverance and persistence. It invites you to mobilize your forces, stick with the program and get the job done — no matter what. It says that while you may be wary from the struggles that have brought you to this point, you’re not going to let them get the best of you or cause you to back down.
Pisces: Eight of Wands
Things should be moving quickly for you this month and you may find that most days you’ll have a full schedule ahead of you even before you walk out the door.
You’ll have to stay on you toes if you want to get anything accomplished — like the woman in this card — from the beautiful Paulina Tarot.
You also want to stay focused: otherwise you run the risk of being pulled in several different directions or going off on a wild goose chase that distracts you from your original goals.
Notice the Eight Wands are all moving in the same direction and the butterflies flapping their wings to guide them along. This is the essence of the Eight of Wands. Staying focused and present; aligning yourself with the activity going on around you so that you become a part of it rather than fighting against it.
There’s a a sense of progress and swiftness in this card, as if to say “things are happening, and they’re happening NOW.” The Eight of Wands also a card of communications. Networking and sharing ideas. Hearing and being heard. This is important because relationships are up in the air for you now -– especially those where differences of opinion have caused them to stall them in their tracks.
This card speaks of not only communicating effectively, but also clearing the air and getting back in sync with those you may have had differences with. It can also refer to travel or messages that come (in the form of good news) from afar.
You may feel a bit overwhelmed; like you’ve got places to go and people to see, and not enough hours in the day. But as long as you stay focused, you can get a lot accomplished.
