June 2018 Tarot Scopes by Melodie

ARIES: Seven of Swords

The question you’re going to have to ask yourself this month — with your ruler (Mars) turning retrograde — is how much are you willing to give up to attain what you desire?

The Seven of Swords requires you to evaluate all the different sides of a complicated situation, and arrive at a solution that causes the least amount of distress. It can refer to a moral dilemma or one with no easy answer, such as a decision that favors head over heart.

This is a tricky card that relates to an equally tricky dilemma. Do you risk letting go of the thing you treasure most just to save your neck? Or do you hold on for dear life, knowing that what you lose may be a far greater sacrifice in the end?

The imagery in this card — from the Mary-el Tarot — portrays this quandary perfectly. The Raven holds onto the jewel, and risks being devour by the serpent. Does he let go of his treasure in order to save his life? or does he hold on for dear life and risk losing everything?

Traditional interpretations of this card speak of cunning, duplicity and deception. And there is some of that here. The Serpent could have easily coiled himself around the raven and tightened his grip already, but he takes his time taunting him with his hypnotic gaze.

Mars retrograde can see you shifting gears and struggling with motivation. It can make harder to know what you really want, and how far you’re willing to go to hold onto to it. It can force you to have to “choose” even if that means having to choose the lesser of two evils.

Just as the snake encircles the raven and systematically tightens his grip, so must you weigh the consequences of holding too tightly to what you value, especially if it means giving up something far more precious.

Four of CoinsTAURUS: Four of Coins

This month you want to be thinking about aligning yourself with a prosperity consciousness and making your money work for you.

The Four of Coins is sometimes just the opposite — holding too tightly to what you have or being too resistant to change.

But as you can see from the joyful figure in this card, it doesn’t have to be. It’s the difference between allowing yourself to be trapped by the reality you’ve created for yourself, and seeing it as a living, breathing and growing extension of you.

The Four of Coins — this version from the gorgeous Chinese Tarot by Jui Guoliang — can refer to a poverty consciousness or a hoarding mentality that creates blockages in your life and prevents new things from coming in.

In this regard it’s also about trust — or a lack of trust more specifically. The implication is that someone could take something from you (something you’ve ascribed a false sense of value to), which prompts you to hold on even more tightly (or hide it away).

This is also the message behind an opposition between your ruler (Venus) and Saturn: the fear that something could be taken away from you can prevent you from allowing something new to come in. But loosening up the strings a bit — like the figure in this card — can shatter that concept and turn it on its head.

Remember that the Universe doesn’t appreciate a vacuum. Letting go of your fears and aligning yourself with this consciousness can let the darkness (avarice, hoarding) out and the light (enlightenment, prosperity) in. Think about sharing what you have with others this month, and giving something back.

mythic tarot page of swords GEMINI: Page of Swords

This month, with the Sun and Mercury (your ruler) in your sign, speaking your mind and sharing your ideas will take center stage.

The Page of Swords — this version from the original Mythic Tarot — is all about communications, ideas, information and news. He (or she) is generally very curious, a good judge of character, quick to size up others and able to see through ulterior motives and agendas.

In this respect it’s very difficult to hide anything from the Page of Swords. Yet this Page appears to be good at hiding his own true motives: presenting one face to the outer world while hiding his true identity in the background.

The Page of Swords may have his head in the clouds but that doesn’t mean it’s not full of ideas. He’s thinking and planning and strategizing at any given moment. He may have BIG ideas, much like that giant sword in his hands. But it’s those ideas that propel him forward, toward ultimately accomplishing his goals.

The Page of Swords is charming and clever. S/he is also somewhat immature, temperamental and emotionally unsophisticated. You may grow tired of his antics if this is someone in your life, and you may have to resist the urge to yank him by the ear and send him to his room.

But there are positive attributes associated with this card as well. There’s curiosity, innovation and idealism that’s hard to find anywhere else. These are the gifts of the Page of Swords — which can inspire you to reach for the stars as well. But be careful too that you don’t make assumptions about someone’s motives that turn out to be colored by your own paranoia. The downside of this card is the potential for distorting information or reading into it something that is simply not there.

The challenge for you is to figure out a way to look at the whole picture without accepting things at face value. While here’s likely to be more than meets the eye with respect to any communications, your goal should be to work on getting at the truth and disregarding anything that detracts you from that goal.

SunCANCER: The Sun

This month, as the Sun enters your sign and ushers in the first day of Summer (you want to focus on what’s right in your world rather than what might be wrong. The Sun card is all about happiness, optimism and vitality: it’s about being present in the moment and celebrating being alive.

Look around you and take notice of the blessings that surround you. Step away — at least mentally — and turn your attention away from work and mundane affairs long enough to soak in the energizing rays of the Sun.

The Sun card — this version from the Secret Language of Birds Tarot —  is all about optimism, enthusiasm and personal radiance. It’s about allowing yourself to “shine,” without any pretense or constraint.

The Sun reflects your own inner light and inspires you to let it shine. It encourages you to say yes to life rather than letting your troubles hold you back. It tells you to turn your face to the Sun rather than looking back over your shoulder toward whatever caused you to dim your light in the first place.

Aside from the obvious penchant for drama and flair, the peacock as an animal totem is also said to represent honor and integrity. It likes to make an entrance, to stand out in a crowd and to be worshiped and adored by others. The tiny hand poking up from the bottom of the card reminds you to embrace your inner child. It’s a symbol of openness, trust and purity; it speaks of being in the moment and at one with the Universe.

Open your heart chakra this month as the Sun moves into your sign and Venus moves into Leo. This ensures that you will find your rightful place between the Sun (warmth), the Peacock (beauty) and the Child (love).

LEO: Six of Wandssix of wands

This is going to be a good time for you to get out there and strut your stuff as you show the rest of the world what you’re made of. It’s a time for being recognized and validated for a job well done. Whether it’s on the job or in your personal relationships, chances are good you’ve accomplished something you can be proud of.

You may have been putting a lot of effort into your work and not even realizing that others have taken notice. Or you could be unexpectedly pulled aside by a loved one, just to tell you how much you’re valued.

The Six of Wands is a card of appreciation and admiration. You “win” something and have earned the right to be satisfied with the spoils of your victory. This isn’t about ego or conceit and it’s never at someone else’s expense. There’s a strong sense of being supported and lifted up by others who rejoice right along with you.

Like the cat with his mouse in this version of the card — from the Phantomwise Tarot — you should be feeling proud of what you’ve accomplished and not afraid to bask a bit in your glory.

Venus moves into your sign this month, bringing with it the combination of confidence and optimism that spurs us toward manifesting our goals. There’s a sense of triumph and victory in the knowledge that you’ve earned your rightful place, but with that comes certain expectations that you’re going to have to live up to.

Whatever form it takes for you, know that you’ve earned it and that you deserve it. It may just give you the incentive to keep shooting for the stars and manifesting your highest goals.

Eight of CupsVIRGO: Eight of Chalices

It’s time to get creative, find your centre and do things your way!  With both of your relationship planets (Jupiter and Neptune) retrograde this month, you may find that you’re feeling less like bouncing ideas off of others and more like going it alone.

You’re likely to find yourself needing to take a breather in order to get clarity on your intentions and on the direction you want to take in the next phase of your personal journey.

Look at all the beautiful colours within this card. Greens for growth, blues for communication, lilac lotuses falling all around like raindrops from heaven. Chakra centres highlighted on the figure on the card, notably the second chakra for creativity, third eye for intuition, heart chakra for love, and the woman clothed in a sea of blue and mauve, representing communication and spirituality flowing all around.

The Eight of Cups — this version from the Yoga Tarot —  is a card of solitude, going it alone or taking yourself out of your daily life to gain some peace and quiet. What better depiction of this than the Lotus yoga pose on this card, which incorporates a positive frame of mind and access to higher realms of knowledge to help you on your way.

Many ideas are running through your mind and if you are open to change then this is a good time to make that change. There is a tranquility here suggesting that your mind and ideas are what will forge you forward.

You will be able to focus your mind in a way that ideas that once seemed vague now come up clearly giving you a head start in carrying them out. You have time though before you launch your ideas into your life or onto the world and this time is used to nourish yourself, your mind, your soul with different ways to make your ideas come to life.

Take some time to get away from external disruptions and distractions. Get yourself out of the rat race so you can really get a handle on what is going on within you and what you can do with it.

The HermitLibra: The Hermit

With six planets retrograde this month — including both your romance and relationship rulers — you may feel like taking a break from distractions and seeking your answers from within.

The Hermit card refers to solitude, introspection and internal analysis. It’s about getting a better understanding of yourself and searching for a deeper meaning to life’s most pressing questions.

And while the figure in this card — from the Gypsy Palace Tarot — may lack human companionship, she’s hardly from alone. Notice the birds and fish that surround her, which may or may not be real. They may just reflect the psychic content of her own thoughts and ideas.

As this card also refers to turning inward, there’s an entire spectrum of information — from the depths of the psyche (represented by the sea creatures) to the heights of conscious awareness (represented by the sky creatures) — that can be accessed.

The waves at her feet look almost like flames. She turns her attention to the blue and indigo flames, representing intuition and higher consciousness. As water also represents feelings, these fiery waves can refer to the alchemical process of transmuting your emotions into something that can be worked with dynamically.

The Hermit card can appear at a time when you’re so bombarded with external stimuli that you just want to “get away” from it all. Notice the bird at the top of the card liberating himself from his cage.

Be careful that you don’t spend so much time in your head that you miss out on opportunities that present themselves. They may seem random in the moment but reveal themselves later to be much more important than you’d realized.

Scorpio: Ten of CoinsTen of Pentacles

This month you’ll likely to be planning for your future, especially with respect to your security and financial stability. The Ten of Coins — this version from the Artist’s Inner Vision Tarot — is about building your empire on whatever scale that might be.

It’s about achieving success through hard work and determination, as well as the satisfaction that comes with knowing that it’s all going to pay off in the end. Not just for you but for family and loved ones, as this card is also about creating a legacy that can be built on for generations to come.

In this version of the card a pair of hands reach out toward the planet earth — representing openness and readiness to partake in all of the riches the Universe has to offer.

The hands are a reminder of the give and take that is such a necessary part of achieving success, as we all know that no one gets their alone. Notice how the earth’s energy field / aura glows where the hands touch it.

The words “abundance” and “prosperity” are written on the card, with the word “be” stamped on the palm of one hand and a coin in the other. These are reminders that fulfillment comes from not just monetary gain but also community and global support.

The Ten of Coins is about establishing a lasting legacy for yourself and your loved ones. It’s about planning ahead for the future. No matter how successful you are already there’s more to be done, especially as it pertains to creating something that will live on long after you’re gone.

You could be thinking of starting a family or putting money aside for children you already have. You may be in the process of giving birth to something else — a business, a creative endeavor or a body of work. Whatever it is, know that this is something you want to be proud of, so put the extra energy into making sure you do it right.

Four of CupsSagittarius: Four of Cups

You may not feel like you’ve got much energy this month, or maybe you’re just lacking in motivation. With both of your ruling planets (Jupiter and Neptune) retrograde by the end of the month, you’re more apt to feel disillusioned or apathetic about things that may have piqued your interest in the past.

These retrogrades are good for turning inward. And they’re also good for fantasizing, daydreaming or tapping into your creativity (such as free-style poetry, music, dance or art). But they’re not so great at applying any of those things to your mundane existence.

You may be more sensitive to any kind of external stimuli, and more susceptible to being deceived — even if that means deceiving yourself. It’s not a good time to make promises or decisions or to sign contracts.

The Four of Cups — this version from Dana Driscoll’s  fabulous Tarot of Trees — is often associated with melancholy, apathy and indifference. This doesn’t mean that whatever you desire is lacking — in fact you can see how the Cups in this card are not only full but they’re all overflowing.

The water (emotions) that pours from one cup to the next doesn’t flow back to its source. Even though they’re seated right next to an ocean, the water spills out onto the ground and is wasted. The Tree pulls its limbs away from the cups and in toward its own center.

But notice the spiral symbols that are repeated throughout the imagery in this card — from the tree’s limbs, to the ocean’s waves, to the clouds in the sky, to the bough of flowers on the ground. This is a theme of centeredness that speaks more about autonomy and fulfillment than it does of discontent. With this in mind, you want to work on finding your center and pulling your energy inward rather than allowing it to scatter to the wind. Whether the Four of Cups manifests for you as disillusionment or personal fulfillment, will depende on how successful you are at achieving that aim.

CAPRICORN: Knight of Wands

This month you may have to reach into your inner reserves of confidence and courage to go after your dreams. The Knight of Wands — this version from Charissa Drengsen’s Steampunk Tarot — is all about passion, inspiration and adventure.

You may have taken the seed of an idea (as seen with the Page) and turned it into a workable plan. This isn’t some far-fetched scheme. It’s a goal you can actually see yourself reaching at some point in the future.

This Knight of Wands is more composed than so many of the other versions. Rather than rearing back on his steed and charging off toward the horizon, this one stands in an attic cathedral, surrounded by an array of esoteric gizmos and gadgets.

You may be considering a major undertaking: going back to school, launching a new career, embarking on a spiritual adventure, etc. Whatever it is, know that it will serve you well to adopt a similar stance.

While there is a definite “spirit of adventure” associated with the Knight of Wands, it helps to pace yourself (like the version in this card) rather than to charge off after something that you haven’t quite figured out. You can’t know all the answers: even this Knight doesn’t know what’s on the other side of that cliff. But you can increase your odds of succeeding by adopting a “look before you leap” attitude, for this or any venture

As is also the case with all Knights — and with all of the court cards in general — this may represent an individual in your life. If this is the case with you, know that he or she delivers an important message. It’s time to set things in motion to go after your dreams.

AQUARIUS: The Hanged ManHanged Man

With Mars turning retrograde in your sign this month, you may feel like the Universe is forcing you to put certain aspects of your life on hold. Plans you’ve made may he held up or delayed, or you may feel the need to take a step back and regroup.

The Hanged Man — this version from the Love and Mystery Tarot — refers to things slowing down or even coming to a dead halt. It could be due to circumstances beyond your control, or it could be a decision you make when you realize the path you’re on is leading you in a direction you don’t want to go.

You could be frustrated over something that’s taken too long to manifest, or have the sense that nothing is happening despite your best efforts. Road blocks are put in your path — often for your own good.

With Mars turning retrograde, you may feel like you’re being forced to slow down, or like all of your efforts are being met with resistance. This transit can also  manifest as something (or someone) forcing you to back down, when what you really want to do is push forward.

Your best bet under these circumstances is to make like the figure in this card. Surrender to a higher power, or at the very least give up your resistance — for now. But this could be easier said than done right now, with your ruler (Uranus) now moving through stubborn, resistant, bull-headed Taurus.

You may have been running at a break-neck pace, never stopping to look at what you’ve accomplished. Or you may have found yourself losing steam over a project that just hasn’t panned out. Either way, it may be time to put things on hold — at least long enough to evaluate your commitment.

The Hanged Man often refers to delays and sacrifices. When it does, you can bet they’re necessary. Trust that there’s a reason — even if it’s not readily apparent — and that it will reveal itself to you in time.

Pisces: White Tiger FourWhite Tiger Four

With your ruler (Neptune) turning retrograde this month, patience, humility and composire are going to be on the menu for you this month.

The White Tiger Four is the Feng Shui Tarot’s version of the Four of Swords. This card generally refers to a need for quiet, stillness, meditation and rest.

It can refer to a desire to retreat from all of the distractions in your life and reflect rather than “act.” It speaks of detaching from the whirlwind of activity around you and choosing to observe rather than participate.

But the emphasis here is more on restraint and self control… How easy would it be for that Tiger to leap over the bamboo fence and pounce on those sweet little songbirds? Or reach one of his mighty paws through the opening before they even knew he was there?

He may be just biding his time and waiting for the right moment. Perhaps he senses that the little birds could just as easily take flight and leave him there empty handed.

The bamboo fence is flimsy and falling apart. A portion of it is already missing. But even if it weren’t, it’s clear that it’s not strong enough to keep the Tiger at bay. Yet he watches and waits. He observes rather than reacts.

You may find yourself in a similar position this month, particularly near the end of the month when six planets will be in retrograde motion. If you’re willing to wait for the right moment, exercising discipline and restraint can pay off for you in the end.
