Aries: Temperance
This month you are likely to be called upon to integrate opposing areas of your life into one big calm, peaceful and harmonious medium.
This may take the form of aligning yourself with higher spiritual realms, or it may be more about learning to surrender.
The Temperance card — this version from the Crystal Tarot — speaks of searching within yourself for that wellspring of inner grace and finding a way to bring the good and bad, light and dark, happy and sad back into balance.
The Temperance card is called “Art” in some decks. It speaks of the unique creative forces that each of us possess. It speaks of seeking out symmetry and harmony.
In what areas of your life are you too inflexible, too rigid and too unwilling to hear another’s point of view? Your challenge will be to overcome those impediments and to integrate the opposing forces in your life.
In this version of the card we see an angel standing in a field and pouring fluid from one vessel into another. The grass is green and abundant at her feet, the sky is clear and the Sun shines behind her. The rainbow that is usually seen in this card is actually a part of her in this version. In her gown, in her wings and in the landscape behind her.
Her demeanor is calm and peaceful — almost trance-like, as if she’s mesmerized by the process. This is the essence of this card: there’s a calm and graceful symmetry in taking one’s time, going with the flow, and becoming one with all that surrounds you.
This is going to be especially important for you this month, with the New Moon in your sign, as well as Mercury, Venus and Chiron at different times. And while you may be tempted to strike out on your own, you want to be mindful during this time of how your words, actions and decisions can
TAURUS: Four
of Wands
Venus — your ruling planet — is exalted in Pisces this month, bringing with it the kindness, warmth, graciousness and congeniality that all of us could use a little more of these days.
This is a gentle, loving and easy-going transit that brings feelings of benevolence and goodwill to the forefront.
Your card this month — the Four of Wands from the Samurai Tarot — is all about reflecting on accomplishments and looking forward to where those accomplishments may lead. It speaks of rejoicing and celebrating — whether this means planning for a party or special event, or getting yourself out of the doldrums and washing away the blues.
The Four of Wands takes the “dream big” energy that came with the Three of Wands and turns it into something tangible, solid and lasting. It represents a joyous celebration: a marriage, a promotion, the birth of a child.
It tells you that “this is only the beginning” of something you’ve already established and that it’s going to just keep getting better and better.
You may be planning a special event — one which will be way more fun than you are anticipating. You are likely to meet people, have fun, put your worries aside and focus instead on the promise of friendship, companionship and socializing.
No matter what else you’re up against this month, remember to be grateful for what you have. It’s not the time to isolate or withdraw from social opportunities. Look around you and take note of all you’ve accomplished thus far. Chances are good there’s a lot to be grateful for and a cause for celebration right there in front of you.
GEMINI: King of Swords
This month, with your ruler (Mercury) in Aries and in mutual reception with Mars in Gemini, you may be called upon to make decisions that are based on fairness and ingenuity.
The King of Swords — this version represented by Greek Mythology;s Odysseus from the beautiful Mythic Tarot — is a wise and strategic leader who relies on intellect and objectivity rather than compassion and emotion.
He may be a person in your life — a boss, mentor, parent or authority figure — and if so he’s here to show you how to lead with wisdom and grace. He may also represent qualities within yourself that are necessary for you to bring forth. Qualities like discipline and neutrality.
It may be a situation that requires you to act with authority, even if you’re not comfortable in that role. It may require you to “lay down the law” or pass down judgment where there is no easy answer. The King of Swords is able to cut through the nuances and extenuating circumstances to arrive at an impartial decision.
The King of Swords is honorable and just. He has noble ideals which he applies to himself as well as others. He insists on fairness and equality for all.
This card can refer to a need for justice and symmetry in your life. Or it can mark the presence of someone whose sense of authority and justice overrides personal investments. Is this you or someone you’re dealing with currently who’s encouraging you to embrace these qualities?
Whether this refers to you or to another, the underlying message is the same. Step away from emotional attachments and make your decisions this month based on what is right, fair, and most importantly best for you in the long run.
Cancer:
Seven of Wands
This month you may find that you need to defend yourself, or to hold your ground against what feels like perilous opposition.
The Seven of Wands — this version from the Deviant Moon Tarot — speaks of a need to be more alert, guarded and cautious, rather than accepting things at face value.
You may face opposition from others, through competition or resistance. You may feel attacked or ganged up on. You may also have to reconcile a “me against the world” attitude before it turns into a chip on your shoulder.
As with all Sevens, there’s usually a moral dilemma or a situation in which you feel you’re being asked to compromise your ideals.
This may be a friend who asks you to keep an uncomfortable confidence, an accusation that’s put you on the defense, or a situation in which you feel unfairly targeted.
Either way you’re going to be called upon to take the high road, to stand your ground and to not allow yourself to back down.
The figure in this card is braced for adversity. She’s guarded and defensive, but she doesn’t retreat: she proceeds cautiously ahead. And while the moon is partially obscured behind the thicket, it sheds just enough light on the path to help her find her way.
Think about the areas in your own life where you’re feeling more guarded and alert. You may feel challenged or unsupported, and it may be hard to see your way around the obstacles before you. But the Seven of Wands is a card of bravery; of standing tall, holding your ground and proceeding onward even in the face of adversity.
LEO: The Devil
Do you feel like you are stuck in a situation or mind set and can’t escape? Just who is pulling your strings you, another person or the situation?
There may be something going on with you this month that leads you to feeling stuck in a situation you can’t seem to escape from, at least not smoothly or without emotional pain and turmoil.
This is the Devil Card from the Golden Tarot of Klimt. From the looks on all the faces of the figures on this card, breaking free should be foremost on their minds. Yet they seem almost paralyzed with fear, shame and regret.
This card encourages you to move past some of the restrictions you’ve imposed on yourself, particularly with respect to the more unsavory emotions — jealousy, anger, paranoia, fear, etc.
The chains that bind you are not only holding you back but are largely self-imposed. Ask yourself what is preventing you from breaking them? The answer is negative emotions, self-doubts and fears.
If you have a bigger monkey on your back — such as addiction or another unhealthy form of debauchery — now is also the time to come clean with yourself about it and get it taken care of.
Whatever it is, know that the Devil card is here to remind you that only you can reclaim your power. You can liberate yourself from the chains that bind you only if you’re brave enough to face them first.
VIRGO: Three of Swords
Your card this month — from the Mary-el Tarot — is a very different Three of Swords than we’re used to seeing.
The most common version depicts a blood red heart lanced by three swords, symbolizing loss, pain, heartache and rejection. Being stabbed in the heart or broken hearted. A deep searing wound accompanied by unfathomable pain.
And while the Three of Swords is hardly a happy card, this version emphasizes the powerful process of healing and transformation. The broken heart is replaced by a gentle white dove, discovering his own strength and ability to overcome adversity.
The Three of Swords often represents a necessary break that’s been a long time coming. It can refer to the end of a relationship or the loss of a dream that you’ve held onto for far too long. You can see that struggle here with swords that the dove grapples with in this card.
While the sky grows dark behind him, if you look closely you can make out a face in the clouds. It’s as if there’s a protective force behind him as he morphs into a mighty bird.
The storm clouds remind you that it’s not going to be easy. Loss and endings never are. But there’s a potential for triumph inherent in this card that tells you you can rise above.
If you’re dealing with the aftermath of your own heartache right now, know that you have it within your own power to prevail. This card serves as a powerful reminder that even the gentlest creature can overcome adversity — and so can you.
Libra: The Fool
This month you are likely to be thinking about your next moves. Where do you go from here? What are you taking with you and what are you leaving behind?
The Fool card — this version from Peter and Eileen Connolly’s fabulous Feng Shui Tarot — begs this exact same question. It brings the past, present and future together into one fleeting moment in time. It asks you to suspend your beliefs and rely on your instincts, as you take a leap into the unknown.
It is the first card in the tarot, numbered Zero. It represents the onset of the Fool’s journey and refers to new beginnings, fresh starts, a period of awakening and unlimited potential.
This is the ultimate “leap of faith” card. It’s about jumping into the unknown and trusting the Universe will provide a net. Think about what new adventures are in store for you, and how suspending all beliefs and concerns can get you in the necessary mindset.
It could be a new career path or relationship opportunity, or it could be a dream you’ve talked yourself out of pursuing because you convinced yourself it was impractical. Whatever it is, now is the time to put those resistances aside and allow yourself to just go for it.
You want to think about these concepts, especially as they apply to opportunities that present themselves to you this month. It’s not the time to fret about details or focus on what could possibly go wrong.
You want to think about where you may be focusing too much on the destination (outcome) and not enough on the journey. It may not be easy to trust in this process, but the magic that can happen as a result is well worth the effort.
Scorpio: Four of Disks
Your card this month — the Four of Disks from the Tarot of the Holy Light — is all about holding onto what you have in order to preserve and protect it.
This may be tied to money and possessions (as Disks are linked with the Earth archetype and therefore material and mundane concerns), but it also extends to attitudes and belief systems.
In the traditional Rider-Waite style cards a figure is usually seen holding on tightly to four gold coins, symbolizing both the desire to protect what he has and the inability to attain more. In this respect there are elements of hoarding and controlling as well as a bit of a miserly approach.
But here we see an Eagle (the animal totem for Venus) nesting in a bed of flames (Mars). Below her are four orbs (the four elements) insulated in a protective shell. She has to be able to adapt to her environment in order to protect her fragile eggs.
This scene takes place in its own protective shell, watched over carefully by a crescent moon. The Sun shines in the background and four different birds (representing four states of consciousness) grace the four corners.
This version of the Four of Pentacles is about way more than money and material possessions. It’s about preservation, protection and control. It indicates a need to watch over the things (and people and attitudes) you’re in charge of without stifling or suffocating them.
Take some time this month to loosen up the reins and allow the light to come in. You’ll be better served in the long run by trusting that the Universe will support you if you allow yourself to give up some of that control.
Sagittarius: Nine of Cups
Take some time to look around you this month and see how many of your dreams and wishes have come true. The Nine of Cups is a card of happiness and fulfillment. It speaks of being more than just satisfied with your lot in life, but also feeling truly blessed and grateful with where you are.
Look at the woman standing front and center in this card — this version comes from the fabulous World Spirit Tarot. She’s dressed to the “nines” in a rainbow of vibrant colors, standing before an array of eight beautiful distinctive goblets. She raises the ninth and shares its contents with a blackbird perched on its rim.
Blackbirds as animal totems are harbingers of blessings and good fortune. They also represent mystery, magic, wisdom and esoteric knowledge.
The Nine of Cups is known as the Wish card; in this sense it’s about manifesting your heart’s desires. Nothing is taken for granted and nothing is left to chance. It’s about aligning yourself with the universal laws of attraction and getting what you deserve.
Along with being the “Wish” card, it’s also a card of Miracles. As there’s so much more focus on what one has than what one lacks, it’s easier to notice small miracles and in even the smallest things. Be careful though that you don’t become too complacent: one of the potential pitfalls with this card is getting exactly what you asked for and then discovering it wasn’t what you wanted in the first place.
Take some time to think about what you really want — and don’t forget to be grateful for what you already have. You do want to be mindful of what you “put out there,” and how willing you are to acknowledge the same in others. There’s an intricate balance between gratitude and personal fulfillment, so make sure you’re putting enough energy and effort into both.
CAPRICORN: The Chariot
This Moon’s New Moon in Aries (representing new beginnings) falls in the your your 4th house — the area associated with yourtuest, purest and most authentic inner Self.
As the Sun and Moon come together — opening new doors (and closing some old ones) — it brings with it opportunities to reinvent yourself. With the Sun ruling WILL and the Moon ruling INSTINCTS, bringing them together in the sign associated with courage and enterprise, opens a dialogue between the two.
And while the Sun is prominent in this card, don’t think the lunar influence is absent. Notice the crescent Moon on the charioteer’s arm and the hawk (associated as an animal totem with vision and intuition) on his shoulder.
This card is associated astrologically with the sign Cancer, which the Moon rules. In that respect it’s a reminder of how divergent forces in all of our lives — light vs. dark, positive vs. negative, instinct vs. action, etc. — compete with one another for control.
This is good time to work on harnessing your own power in order to resolve whatever inner conflicts you’ve been dealing with in recent weeks.
This version of the card — from the New Palladini Tarot — emphasizes the aspects of will, power and self-control. The figure in the card stares straight ahead, wearing a Sphinx hood and golden chainmail, weilding a mighty sword. The Chariot’s wheels replicate the Sun shining high in the sky, just as the hawk’s gaze replicates the Charioteer’s.
The Chariot card says that you can achieve your goals by pulling you own opposing forces together with purpose and focus. You have to take hold of the reins and gather all of your resources together, but your willingness to do so all but guarantees your success in the end.
AQUARIUS: Five of Coins
Your card this month — the Five of Coins from the Ostara Tarot — indicates a need to rethink what you value, especially when it comes to your own sense of worth or self-esteem.
The Five of Coins can mark a period of financial adversity, such as seeing your earnings held up or seeing your resources dwindling as a result of unexpected expenses.
As Coins are linked to “values,” we most often think of money. But they also relate to self-worth: it’s hard to feel good about yourself when you’re struggling — financially or otherwise.
The Five of Pentacles can refer to feelings of inadequacy. It can translate as feeling lost or alone, isolated or excluded. It doesn’t have to manifest in a big way. It can be as simple as being dismissed or overlooked — an insignificant occurrence that in light of some of the bigger picture concerns can takes on a life of its own.
It’s a harsh word, a careless remark, or a call that doesn’t come. Something that makes you feel small, dejected or demoralized.
There is fear associated with this card. Fear of making a mistake.Fear of failure. Fear of taking a leap of faith only to see the thing you want so desperately swept away before you can attain it.
Your challenge this month is going to be to move past those fears and recapture your your own self worth. You want to move past the feelings of shame, embarrassment and uncertainty and allow yourself to reach out for help is needed.
Take some time this month to remind yourself that you’re worthy of being loved and accepted. The challenge with the Five of Coins is to not give in to those fears, but to overcome them.
Pisces:Seven of Pentacles
You may find yourself feeling frustrated this month over something that’s taking longer to manifest than you’d hoped for. While the urge to push ahead anyway and move things at a faster pace will be strong, the Seven of Pentacles encourages you to do otherwise.
It says it’s time to step back, test the waters, and assess the progress you’ve already made before you plan your next move.
It’s about getting your ducks in a row and taking the time to finesse your plans before you act on them — even if you’re tempted to push forward prematurely.
In this version of the card — from Stephanie Pui Mun-Law’s gorgeous Shadowscapes Tarot — we see a fair young maiden examining the buds that hang from a flowering bush, but only a few of which have begun to bloom.
We can see all seven blossoms hanging from the vines, but it’s clear they haven’t reached their full potential. They promise to be fragrant and beautiful, but it’s also clear that they’re not quite ready.
There’s a sense with this card that it’s just not time; she’s just not ready; and there are still preparations to be made.
Think about the things in your own life that need still need time to develop and mature. It could be a promotion that feels like it’s taking too long to materialize. It could be a relationship that’s not moving forward as quickly as you’d like. Or you may be just feeling frustrated with the pace things are moving in your day to day life.
You already know that when you try to rush something to completion before its time you run the risk of losing all the momentum you’ve already gained. So for now you want to step back and focus on how far you’ve come rather than allowing yourself to wallow over all that is left to be done.
