Aries: Seven of Pentacles
Now would be a good time to re-evaluate a recent decision and decide your next move. Do you proceed as planned? Change directions? Or throw in the towel and start all over again?
The Seven of Pentacles — this version from the Shadowscapes Tarot — indicates a need for patience to see something through. But it can also trigger feelings of disappointment or frustration over that something taking too long to produce results.
That also brings in the potential that as those results develop they turn out to be not what you thought you wanted in the first place. You could be involved in a relationship that’s just not working out the way you hoped or a career-path that turns out to be unrewarding.
You may be mid-way through a college degree and find yourself wondering if you should change majors, or moving halfway around the world and realizing you’re homesick.
The Seven of Pentacles — like all Sevens — refers to delays, dilemmas and decisions that are not easy to resolve. This card can refer to a pause or a setback, a choice between disparate paths, or even a change in direction late in the game.
This card represents finding yourself a pivotal juncture that there’s no easy answer for. If you find yourself at a crossroads — wondering whether it’s best to hang in there or to hang it up and start all over again, your best move may just be to step back and give it some time.
TAURUS: Eight of Stones
This month, with a lineup of planets moving through your 6th house — the area related to self-improvement, you’re going to be thinking about doing business and being more productive. You’ll be focusing on honing your craft and turning your skills into something you can be proud of.
The Eight of Stones is the Chrysalis Tarot’s version of the Eight of Pentacles. It’s a card of craftsmanship. It can be as simple as being 100 % focused on your work and demonstrating your level of dedication and service. And it can be as innovative as taking something you’re uniquely capable of and turning it into a career.
The Eight of Pentacles is also known as the apprentice card. It refers to taking on an interest — a new one or a lifelong dream — and devoting yourself fully to it. It doesn’t have to be career related, but since it’s a labor of love wouldn’t it be great if it were? Making a living doing what we love is something we all aspire to achieve.
This card can refer to an all-work / no-play mentality. But this is all relative, as the hours that you’re putting in will likely not feel like “work” at all. Not if you truly love what you do. This is about being fully engrossed in what you’re learning, creating or developing.
Take some time this month — even if you’re still somewhere punching that clock — and think about what you really want to be doing. Chances are good that once you start seriously thinking about your options, taking steps toward making them happen will come to you naturally.
GEMINI: Ace of Cups
This month you’ll have five planets moving through your 5th house — the area associated with love, romance, creativity and self-expression. The 5th house is also associated with children, so what better card than this one to capture all of the above?
You may be embarking on a new romance or revving up an existing one. You may be thinking about starting a family or getting ready to give birth to something else — like a new business or creative effort.
Whatever it is, know that this card represents new opportunities, to grow, to express and to create. Like all Aces, it represents raw unformed energy that can be molded and transformed.
This is the Ace of Cups from the gorgeous Ceccoli Tarot. If the woman in this card looks a little shell-shocked, it may be because she knows it takes a lot of courage to put her heart on the line.
You may be feeling a vulnerable yourself, and you may be worried that your hands are too full. But this card represents a compassionate, unconditional, and all-encompassing love that is capable of reverberating throughout your very being.
If there’s a downside to this energy, it’s the tendency to lack motivation and purpose. Too much “going with the flow” can see you being carried aimlessly along with life’s currents.
You want to keep this is mind when it comes to making decisions and asserting your needs to others. This is a time of giving and receiving: and you can derive as much pleasure through giving as you can through expressing gratitude for all that you receive. The Ace of Cups is ripe with potential and opportunity. What you do with it — and how open you are to the possibilities before you — is entirely up to you.
Cancer: Four of Wands
With five planets moving through your fourth house — the area associated with home, family and security needs — this month, you may be looking forward to spending time with those who are nearest and dearest to you, and honoring your cherished relationships.
This is the Four of Wands from the Daniloff Tarot. It can represent a joyful celebration, such as a wedding or birth of a child.
This card is all about reflecting on accomplishments and looking forward to where those accomplishments may lead. It speaks of rejoicing and celebrating — whether this means planning for a party or special event, or getting yourself out of the doldrums and washing away the blues.
The Four of Wands takes the “dream big” energy that came with the Three of Wands and turns it into something tangible, solid and lasting. It represents a joyous celebration: a marriage, a promotion, the birth of a child.
It tells you that “this is only the beginning” of something you’ve already established and that it’s going to just keep getting better and better.
The Four of Wands — like all Fours in the tarot — is not about work or productivity. It’s about taking time away — from day-to-day chores and responsibilities — to celebrate life’s important milestones.
The Four of Wands not only appears as a literal celebration, it can also refer to a cause for celebration — such as an engagement, a new baby, a promotion, purchasing a new home, etc. However it manifests, you’ll want to recognize the occasion and share your joy with loved ones.
LEO: Three of Cups
Your social calendar should overflowing with opportunities this month, thanks to a lineup of planets moving through your 11th house. This is the area associated with friendships and social engagements, in whatever form those take.
This is the Three of Cups from the Gypsy Palace Tarot. It is a playful and festive card that emphasizes playfulness and partying over work and responsibilities. it also emphasizes friends and casual relationships over serious romantic entanglements.
It’s about being surrounded by like-minded people and putting your differences aside. It’s about coming together and joining forces with those who have your best interests at heart.
The focus is on merriment and gaiety rather than monotony and drudgery. It’s on interacting and networking with others, giving you the opportunity to push aside some of the more serious considerations at least for the time being.
Pay attention to new people coming into your life during this time too. You could find yourself developing friendships with people that seem random at first but turn into important connections over time.
In terms of romance the Three of Cups can refer to reconnecting with an old flame or reuniting with an ex. It can also manifest as a natural progression from the Ace of Cups (an attraction) and the Two of Cups (a mutual attraction) to the Three of Cups (taking that attraction to the next level).
Whether you’re celebrating your own good fortune or raising your glass to toast another’s, the Three of Cups serves as a reminder that there’s always something to be grateful for, and always someone to share your gratitude with.
VIRGO: Ace of Pentacles
This month you’ll have five planets moving through your income and earnings sector. This should hopefully see you thinking about the world of opportunities that are now before you — to express yourself creatively, expand your social horizons, and generate more prosperity.
This is the Ace of Pentacles from the Light Grey Tarot. As with all Aces, it represents the start of something new, and in this case it happens to relate to money. As in new financial opportunities coming your way. While you probably won’t see a windfall, it’s a positive affirmation that you’re putting your energy into the right areas.
You may have recently gotten a raise, started a new job or become the benefactor of someone else’s generosity. You could also be starting to see returns on your earlier investments. Either way, you should have more opportunities and more financial resources at your disposal than you’ve had in recent days.
You may also feel that your luck is changing. As the Ace of Pentacles is associated with a change in fortune — a positive change as I also see Aces as “Yes” cards — as long as the “yes” answer is a positive affirmation. It’s telling you to keep up the good work, to go after your dreams, and to be open to all that the Universe has to offer you.
This imagery is an homage to the “spreading the wealth” axiom that is so much a part of prosperity consciousness. It’s an acknowledgment that there is plenty for everyone and that acquiring abundance also involves sharing it with others.
You can be confident in the knowledge that fortune is smiling upon you this month, and while that doesn’t mean you should be foolish with your money, you should have more of it than usual to work with.
Libra: Two of Swords
There are likely to be times this month where you feel like you’re being pulled in two different directions. You may be struggling with an important decisions, or grappling with competing desires.
The Two of Swords — this version from the Joie de Vivre Tarot can refer to an impasse or stalemate that’s more likely than not a result of your own indecision.
It can refer to a pivotal moment in time where you recognize that the options before you are equally appealing (or terrifying) and that whatever decision you make will have a huge impact on your life.
In this respect it can refer to inaction and immobility. Sometimes this is due to fear: “What if I make the wrong decision?” But it’s just as often related to a desire to not have to choose at all.
Perhaps this is why you’ve held off in the first place, as the the Two of Swords refers to not just feeling torn between two options but wanting to avoid making a choice between them as well.
The Two of Swords tells you that while you may ultimately have to make a decision, each one has value. And you can’t know the exact outcome of either choice until you do decide.
You want to weigh your decisions carefully, knowing that they can have far-reaching repercussions. While you may have to sit back and consider your options carefully, in the end you’ll have to decide and then abide by your decisions.
Scorpio: The High Priestess
This month you’ll not only have five planets moving through your 12th house (the area associated with psychic perceptions and intuition) but your ruler — Pluto — is turning direct.
As a result you’ll likely be given cause to delve into the deepest regions of your psyche, where instinct, perception and intuition all reside.
The Mythic Tarot’s version of the High Priestess — seen here as the goddess Persephone — is a dynamic, mystical force that relies on harnessing inner knowledge and wisdom.
Persephone started her descent into the Underworld as a frightened and lonely girl, dragged into the darkness against her will. But here we see her transformed from the fearful child and into her rightful position as Queen.
She stands between two pillars (one black and one white) as guardian of both worlds — with a pomegranate in one hand and bouquet of narcissus flowers in the other.
Each of the these symbols reflect important stages in her journey, as well as the dual forces of nature that are implicit in this card.
The High Priestess refers to getting in touch with your intuition. Listening to your inner voice. Heeding your psychic impressions. And tapping into the vast reservoir of wisdom that you may not have taken the time to nurture in recent months. While you may be apprehensive about exploring those realms, the answers to your most pressing concerns are right there at your psychic fingertips, if you only you allow yourself to trust in them.
Sagittarius: Wheel of Fortune
This month you may be looking at the ups and downs in your life and thinking about how they’ve led you to where you are today. The Wheel of Fortune card is associated with fate, destiny, “karma,” life cycles and both good and bad luck.
Sometimes we blame ourselves for the down times (thinking we “brought it on ourselves”) while viewing the up times as outside of our control.
We all experience these up and down cycles — and we all try to maximize the former while minimizing the latter. But the Wheel of Fortune — this version from the beautiful Alchemical Tarot — tells us that both are necessary and that the good times wouldn’t be good without the frame of reference of the not-so-good times.
Like the mythical Ouroboros or world serpent (and this version also reminded me of the M.C. Escher’s lithograph “Drawing Hands”), there is no beginning or end, much like the rhythms in our own lives.
Here we see the two dragons — one white with wings and a crown and the other red, scaly and looking a bit more sinister — circling the wheel together. As one goes up the other comes down, repeating that cycle over and over again in an ongoing (and never ending) process.
There are elements of karma and fate associated with this card; yet the Wheel of Fortune refers as much to creating your own destiny — and mastering your own fate — as it does to dealing with karmic repercussions. Rather that seeing yourself tied to that karmic wheel, consider participating in your destiny and working on overcoming the conditioning that’s held you there in the past.
CAPRICORN: Nine of Wands
What would you be doing right now, if you knew that all of your efforts were going to pay off in the end? Would you keep on going despite what may feel like insurmountable obstacles, or would you throw your hands in the air and admit defeat?
This is the question you want to be asking yourself when you find yourself nearing the end of your rope and wondering if you have the strength to go on.
The Nine of Wands can have you asking yourself “what else could go wrong?” and “how much more of this can I take?” when life seems to throw you one curveball after another. It calls for perseverance and determination, especially if you find yourself starting to wonder whether the Universe is conspiring against you.
You may be recalling past disappointments, expecting the worst, or adopting a “what’s the use?” attitude. Like the tree in this card — from Dana Driscoll’s Tarot of Trees — you may not think you have the strength to go on. But this is exactly the opposite of what you should be doing right now, as you’re closer to the finish line than you think.
The Nine of Wands asserts that while things may not be easy — and while there are bound to be more challenges ahead — it’s hardly the time to throw in the towel. You need only think about how far you’ve come (and how much you’ve already accomplished) to find the motivation to push ahead.
AQUARIUS: Nine of Swords
Your card this month is the Nine of Swords, from the Mary-el Tarot. It’s traditionally a “fear” card based on the potential for overthinking things and expecting the worst. But in this version there are many references to seeking a clearer understanding, or answering to a higher call.
There’s a lot of symbolism in this card. From the black and white towers (competing urges) to the crashing waves (being overwhelmed by emotions) to the Hathor / Horus images overseeing it all. And in the middle of all that is a tiny figure making his way through the storm toward a far-off kingdom.
The Nine of Swords is sometimes referred to as the “nightmare” card, due to its association with overblown panic and fear. But so often our fears are self-created and self-imposed.
You may have gotten yourself into a sticky situation and are now dreading the consequences. Or you might be kicking yourself for having engaged in risky behavior, wondering if it was worth it in the end. You may feel like running away from your problems, or pretending that none of it’s real. But you’ll find that not confronting your demons and tackling the situation head on only makes them more harrowing.
This is the essence of the Nine of Swords. Not only do our fears have the capacity to paralyze us, but finding the courage to face them has the capacity to extinguish them. If we want to move forward, we’ll have to be brave enough to “take back our power” and face our fears head on.
Pisces: Two of Pentacles
This month you’re going to be weighing different options and opportunities as you work toward manifesting your goals. If you’re feeling pulled in different directions, you’ll be working on bringing the divergent areas of your life back into focus.
You may be juggling funds, career options, or even relationship choices, and are called upon now to find a middle ground. Moderation and balance are integral parts of satisfying the dual desires of this archetype.
In this version of the card — from the Deviant Moon Tarot — we see a Gypsy fortune-teller performing an exotic dance ritual under a crescent moon. Her movements are fluid and effortless; in fact she almost appears to be in a trance.
She holds a pentacle in each hand — the light of the moon balanced between them.
Pentacles relate to mundane areas and material concerns. Therefore you may find yourself juggling funds this month, or you may be torn between saving it up and spending it on something you just don’t need.
You could also be trying to decide whether to make a major purchase or hold off on it until a later date. With Mercury retrograde until the 10th, your best bet is to hold off.
I always liked the idea of “one hand feeding the other” with this card: you don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket as you risk coming up empty handed. It’s best to keep some of your options afloat, until you’re clearer about the direction you want to go.
