Here is the Ask the Astrologers Forecast for the week of Jan 4, 2021 – Jan 10, 2021:
This week we have three planets — Mercury, Venus and Mars — all changing signs. We’re also dealing with an out-of-bounds planet (Mercury) and a stationary planet (Uranus, which will go direct in 10 days, at the exact degree it occupies now), and by week’s end the entire body of planets encased within the North and South Nodes.
Starting on Monday, we have a Moon — still full — in Virgo, which will trine the Sun, Mercury and Pluto, square Venus and oppose Neptune before the day is through. These are mostly productive and discipline transits, with emphasis on work to be done.
This is not a time for taking shortcuts or slacking off, and it’s not a time to assume that someone else will do what needs to be done. This is a time for refining what needs to be refined, improving upon what needs to be improved upon, and fixing what needs to be fixed.
Mercury conjuncts Pluto on Tuesday. This transit is intensified by the Moon in Libra squaring them both, which can not only increase the desire for privacy and see us wanting to play things closer to the vest Mercury conjunct Pluto) but can also cause people to become hypersensitive and even paranoid.
One positive aspect of this transit — among many — is the urge to get to the bottom of things, leaving no stone unturned. It’s a “take no prisoners” aspect that can be powerfully persuasive or brutally domineering.
Mars moves into Taurus on Wednesday, where it will remain for the next two months. Mars is said to be in detriment in Taurus, as the polarity point of one of the signs it naturally rules, Scorpio. What this means is that it’s not comfortable in Taurus, as the calm, peaceful, sensuous and slow-moving Taurean archetype is strained when filtered through the Martian natural aggressive, dynamic energy.
If Mars represents what we’re compelled to “do” — what we are willing to fight for — Mars in Taurus can frustrate that energy as any Mars in Taurus individual will tell you that they’d much rather make love than war. But with that said, this marks the onset of a six-week period where we’re likely to want to slow down a bit, stop and smell the flowers (or better yet, plant some — as this is one of the things Mars in Taurus people do best!) rather than rushing headlong into the next big thing.
Not to be outdone, the Moon comes along and squares Pluto and Mercury on Thursday, before it moves into Scorpio (the sign of its fall), squares Saturn and Jupiter while opposing Mars and Uranus. These are incredibly intense transits — any one of which would be problematic. Put them together though and there’s a strong potential for aggression, recklessness or even violence to erupt.
The lunar portion of this configuration will be short-lived. But it can act as trigger for these other more volatile energies to take shape. And those can reverberate well into the future. This is not a time to do battle or inject yourself into someone else’s war. Although Mercury is back “in bounds” by this time, it’s at an anaretic (fateful) degree, so pay attention to your thoughts, words and intentions.
On Friday, Mercury moves into Aquarius while Venus moves into Capricorn. Mercury in Aquarius is all about thinking outside the box. Looking toward the future. And figuring out your own unique contributions to society. It’s innovative and progressive. It’s open-minded, far-reaching and can be a bit eccentric.
It can also be argumentative and rigid in its thinking. This is often the “my way or the highway” Mercury, as it combines a tendency toward very strong opinions with a desire to overthrow conventional ideas. As Aquarius is ruled by Uranus which is the higher octave of Mercury, this is often seen as a “genius” pairing. It’s a great time to broaden your mind and seek out answers that no one else has even thought of. But it’s not a good time to try to convince others of your way of thinking. Instead you want to use this time to explore your individuality and to think of ways to let your own brilliance shine.
Venus in Capricorn understands the value of hard work, dedication and discipline. It’s also responsible and reliable — with money, in your career, in your relationships with loved ones, and especially when it comes to matters of the heart. It represents a time for getting serious about your relationships — or lack thereof. And it’s a time for taking a more practical approach to relationships, whether that means emphasizing head over heart or ticking off a checklist to make sure your partner meets your qualifications.
Venus in Capricorn is all about maturity, wisdom and perseverance. It’s also very conservative. You’re not likely to jump into something impulsively during this time, nor are you going to end something prematurely. You’re more apt to stick things out — even if the going gets rough — and to hold off on getting involved in the first place. But Venus in Capricorn is known for cutting to the chase, simplifying things and creating clarity. In this respect, it’s an excellent time for for taking stock of your relationships, your career and your finances.
Venus is also in mutual reception with Uranus at this time — and for the next few weeks — which each of them in the other’s ruling sign. The mutual reception can bolster the advantages of both planets, in this case uniting the Venusian aspects of love and beauty with the Uranian aspects of individuality and originality.
All this progressive Aquarian energy is further emphasized by the Sun / Uranus sexile (also on Friday) which is all about finding innovating and creative ways to march to the beat of your own drum.
On Saturday, Mars squares Mercury while it trines Venus. These are fairly contradictory transits, with the square to Mercury leaning toward combative or disruptive behavior, and the trine to Venus wanting to make love and not war.
Mercury square Mars can be impatient and impulsive. It can also be accident prone, so pay attention and keep your eye on the road. The Mars / Venus trine is much more pleasant: it can see you striving to meet in the middle and give as good as you get.
As the week comes to an end (on Sunday) Mercury conjuncts Saturn. This is a more serious and disciplined mental transit that’s good for strategizing, focusing on details and making long-term goals. This would be a good time to do research or anything involving scientific or step-by-step analysis.
It’s also good for having a serious discussion if there’s something that’s weighing heavily on your mind. Just remember that things tend to seem more dismal than they really are with Mercury / Saturn transits, and proceed accordingly
That’s it for this week! see you next week.
