Here is the Ask the Astrologers Weekly Astrology Forecast for the week of October 7, 2024 – October 13, 2024:
We’ve got a lot going on this week, starting on Monday as the moon moves into Sagittarius, becoming the only planet in the Fire sign element for the remainder of the week. We’ve also got a planet changing signs (Mercury) and two planets changing direction (Jupiter and Pluto), a rare Yod configuration and a comet making its first appearance in the night sky.
On Tuesday, Mercury trines Jupiter and opposes Chiron well Venus trying to Mars. The trine to Jupiter is also a positive aspect, as Mercury and Jupiter are a natural planetary pair. Here we have two natural polarities — the natural rulers of the 3rd and 9th houses — joined together in harmony. We have Mercury — the planet associated with communications and ideas — trining Jupiter — the planet associated with benevolence, good will and generosity.
Among many other things, this transit is good for opening your heart to those you love and expressing appreciation and gratitude for all that you have. It’s good for coming together with others and celebrating your allegiances while honoring and accepting your differences. It’s a time for feeling inspired and optimistic about the future.
The Venus / Mars trine it’s also comprised of a planetary pair, this time as the natural rulers of the 1st and 7th houses. But while Venus is dignified by sign (as a natural ruler of Libra), Mars is debilitated (in Cancer, which is the sign of its fall). But the trine is a positive, representing ease, comfort and harmony, rendering this aspect to represent going with the flow and staying in sync with your loved ones. It’s good for attracting new people into your life and for collaborating with others.
On Wednesday, Jupiter goes station or retrograde, where it will remain for the next 4 months. Jupiter retrograde turns all of our spiritual and higher-mind impulses inward. It can bring greater insights and awareness based on what resonates with us personally rather than through external doctrines.
Use this time to think about what makes you feel fulfilled on a Soul level, rather than the accomplishments that bring you external comfort and satisfaction. It’s a time for pursuing altruistic or charitable goals. And a time to build on your personal relationship with your own higher power.
Venus moves into a powerful position on Thursday, when it becomes the focal point (or apex) of a Yod formation between Jupiter and Chiron. The Yod aspect is also known as the “finger of God,” and with these planets involved, it can bring in a desire to search for deeper meaning or connect with a higher power.
The Jupiter / Chiron portion of this configuration emphasizes sentiments like charity, benevolence and goodwill. And if you see the Yod aspect as a sort of divning rod, it makes sense that Venus at the apex would determine love, beauty and harmony (all Venusian traits) lights the way.
On Friday, there’s an inconjunct between Mercury and Uranus. This aspect can see you needing to move past your ego needs and tapping into your higher consciousness. It can manifest as feeling alienated or alone — or like the odd man out. It may also be hard to shut out the trivial details and minutiae interfering with your thought processes, when your brain is working overtime.
Although Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury — reminding us that these planets ordinarily work well together — the inconjunct tells us that adjustments need to be made. But as you shift your energy toward humanitarian goals, you can make a great impact in your community. Use this transit to balance out the part of you that longs to save the world with the part that just wants to belong.
On Saturday Pluto turns stationary direct, after having spent the last five+ months in retrograde motion. Pluto is retrograde for almost half of the year (every year). In this case it’s been retrograde since May 3rd. It will go retrograde again on May 5, 2025. As Pluto turns direct again you may see suppressed urges and desires returning to the surface (much like the Roman God for which it is named emerges from the underworld in ancient mythology).
Pluto turning direct forces you to look at those urges in the harsh light of day and decide whether you’re ready to deal with them or push them back below the surface. Obviously the former is preferable as it can mean the difference between life happening to you (and having no control) or taking charge of your destiny and having some say in how it all plays out.
Also on Saturday, Mercury inconjuncts Neptune and Jupiter sextiles Chiron. These aspects can see you becoming more aware of your own capacity for giving and for being able to put yourself in other people’s shoes. This is a charitable combination that compels you to reach into the very depths of your soul — where compassion, forgiveness and understanding all reside — and bring forth that which is within you in order to pass it onto others.
Try not to become consumed by competing emotions on Sunday, when a Mars / Chiron square and a Mercury / Pluto square come into play. The Mars / Chiron square can see you fighting against the urge to put your own needs aside in favor of the “greater good.” While that might seem like a valid endeavor, it can also skew your perceptions and see you fighting for something you may not believe in after all.
At the same time, the Mercury / Pluto square increases the potential for minor misunderstandings to get blown out of proportion. This propencity may be even more prominent, with both planets at anaretic degrees. It’s not going to be the time to try to back someone into a corner or force their hand.
This aspect can be hypersensitive to criticism at best and deliberately cruel at worst. It’s good for doing research but not so good for relying on whatever conclusions you arrive at. The potential for distorting things or interpreting them to meet your expectations is too high. Best to hold back on setting anything in stone, as the tendency to misconstrue things during this transit is greater than you may realize.
Later, Mercury leaves Libra behind and moves into Scorpio, where will remain for the next three and a half weeks. This placement can see you scrutinizing everything to the infinitesimal degree. This is an excellent placement for doing research and analysis, and can also be good for delving into the deepest darkest regions of your own psyche.
What it might not be so good for is communicating with loved ones. You’ll want to get a handle on the tendency to read into everything and see problems where there are none. This placement can be guarded and / or hyper vigilant. It can also be skeptical, suspicious or paranoid.
The good news is that nothing will get past you and no one is going to be able to play you for a fool. But the bad news is that this placement has so much difficulty taking anything at face value that having even a casual conversation can start to feel like walking through a land mine.
That’s it for this week. See you next week!
