ARIES: Ten of Cups
This month you want to remember to count your blessings, knowing that you’ve come to a place in your life where you’re aware of what (and whom) truly matters most.
The Ten of Cups tells you that you’ve achieved something worth acknowledging and celebrating, as seen in the imagery of this card. It represents fulfillment and security; a solid foundation of abundance and prosperity, and the sense that you have built something you can take pride in.
This extends well beyond financial or material security. It’s more about family, lasting friendships and a sense of comfort — in your home and your community — surrounded by people you love.
In this version of the card, from the Morgan Greer Tarot, we see two strong arms — a man’s and a woman’s — lifting a golden chalice up in a show of harmony and unity.
A colorful rainbow pours into the chalice, while nine more cups are lined up like a staircase behind them, reminding us of the steps that have been taken to lead us to where we are today. The landscape behind them is serene and peaceful, with lush verdant hillsides and trees. Even the surface of the water is calm.
The Ten of Cups is all about embracing all you’ve established through your connections and interactions with others. It’s about happiness and security in the areas that matter most — with family, friends and loved ones.
This is not the time to think about what is lacking in your life but rather what makes it complete. And while you don’t want to be resting on your laurels, it’s important to acknowledge those who are most important to you and who keep your cup continuously full.
TAURUS: Judgment
You may start the month feeling as if you are a bit off balance. It may be time to contemplate where you have come from and where you are going. Not to mention the small twist of where you are now.
If life has not been going your way lately take heart that this month looks to be quite cathartic for you in finding a path that suits you better.
Others may be looking to you to lead them or show them the way in what is possible and while you are finding your own feet you may have some trouble with this. Nevertheless you have been given wings to fly and fly you will even if it is a small step.
As you look around you this month you may find the past, present and future colliding as well as laid out before you and clearly being seen for what it is. Like the caterpillar in this card — from Stolen Child Tarot — you may be wondering where want to go from here.
You may feel as if the ground has been knocked out from under you which is disorientating but rest assured you will soon pick yourself up in a different way to the past which also gives you new ideas on what you will do next.
You may not be ready to take a leap of faith and launch yourself forward but you will certainly be feeling as if you have been given a helping hand in finding what it is you want and who you are. Like a caterpillar emerging from its cocoon you will find this metamorphosis not only working in your favour but also a chance to show off your skills to others who may be following your path.
GEMINI: Queen of Pentacles
Who is pulling your strings? Are you in charge of your own life or is someone else pressing your buttons to get you to do what they wish?
The Queen of Pentacles — this version from the Love and Mystery Tarot — is practical and grounded yet in this card we have water and many images from the sea suggesting an emotional quality to the month when it comes to practicalities… especially if these are connected to money or finances.
There is a suggestion that you need to “come up for air” in order to see more clearly although you are on the right track with what you are intuitively feeling is your next step in gathering around you a plan to build a firm foundation on.
What is going on “underneath” is not necessarily what is showing on the “surface.” Notice that the woman’s eyes in this image are above the surface of the water, which implies that she sees more and knows more of what is going on than she is letting on to those around her.
What you are seeing may be holding you back in some way as you try to come to terms with where you fit into the grand scheme of things which is another good reason to listen to your own intuition on what you want and what you need to do next to get it.
It’s time to come out of your shell and let those around you know exactly what you are worth whether this be in a relationship and what you give to it or at the workplace.
You know yourself better than you think and you certainly know yourself better than those around you. Trust your inner wisdom this month and take steps to forge ahead with any grand plan you have in motion and you may find that soon you are dancing to your own tune… rather than someone else’s.
CANCER: Two of Wands
The Two of Wands — like all Twos — refers to taking the spark of an idea (seen in the Aces) and forming it into a tangible, working plan.
This requires looking at it from all angles — weighing the pros and cons, evaluating time and energy, separating the wheat from the chaff and so on. This is beautifully represented in the imagery depicted on this version of the card.
In this version of the card, from Nathalie Hertz’ Fantastical Tarot, we see two leopards — one dark and one light — each standing watch by their own ornate pillars. The dark leopard is an exact mirror image of the light. Their sleek bodies curve toward one another and become “one,” reminding us of the power of uniting opposing forces to make one stronger entity. The Sun shines high in the sky between them.
The key here is balance: you won’t be able to make something happen without careful consideration and planning. And all the planning in the world won’t cause your ideas to materialize without putting in the effort.
There’s a certain give and take with the Two of Wands (as with all Twos in the tarot) that is mirrored right back to you. There’s also a need for discrimination — throwing out the unrealistic or half-baked ideas and focusing on what has a genuine shot at being successful.
The Two of Wands requires you to be objective and this is why it’s always wise to bounce your ideas off of another. If you want to make something happen, prove it by participating in its development. The outcome you achieve will be directly proportionate to the energy you put into making it manifest.
LEO: Nine of Wands
You may have to dig deep to push past some of the obstacles and frustrations you’re dealing with in your life right now.
You might have to step back, take a breath and remind yourself that it’s not as bad as it seems. You may not be where you expected to be at this point, but you’ve still got a lot of fight left in you and you’re closer to the finish line than you know.
You may have been frustrated with the lack of progress or come *this close* to completing your journey, only to find another road-block directly ahead of you. But maybe the setbacks you’ve encountered haven’t been setbacks at all. Perhaps they’ve been lessons in disguise.
The figure in this card from the Joie de Vivre Tarot — is surrounded by minor obstacles. A half formed “wall” encircles her with 8 flimsy rods stuck into the ground around it. The rods all have smiling cartoonish faces on them — including the one she and holds in her hand.
She herself looks a bit worse for the wear. She’s got fresh stitches on her forehead and patch over one eye. But if you look at the other symbols on the card — the compass, the world tree, the eye peering out from behind her open heart and the angel wings! — you can see that this is more about getting insight into where you’re heading than is it about focusing on the obstacles that have held you back.
The Nine of Wands is not about the uncertainty or hesitation so much as it is about the one big burst of energy that gets you moving again. It’s a card of perseverance and determination, reminding that you’re almost there, with one final hurdle or battle to overcome. If you can stay on course you’ll be rewarded in the end, and will see that what is gained is far greater than anything you could have achieved had you chosen an easier path.
VIRGO: Three of Pentacles
It’s time to take your own power back and use it in a way that best suits you! This month is about energy… specifically your own energy and what you do with it.
Are you letting it leach out and having it taken by others who you are doing everything for whilst at the same time getting nothing in return?
Or are you using that energy to turn your dreams into reality and shower yourself with the many benefits this can in turn give you? These are the questions you need to be asking yourself this month.
By asking yourself these questions and taking your own thoughts, needs and wants into the equation of your answer you can harness your own energy and have it working for you rather than against you.
What is your dream? How far along have you traveled in accomplishing it? The many facets of the peacock’s feathers in this image — from the Yoga Tarot — suggest that there are multi layers to what you are wishing to accomplish and the yellows suggest mental agility in realizing what you need to do next.
All eyes are on you… or are they? Notice that you are only see one half of the picture in this image. What are the peacock’s feet doing, where are they placed and for that matter what is the other half of the body of the man doing?
It would seem you need to find your own feet and get your own self into alignment to accomplish your goals for only then will your wishes and intentions be fulfilled.
Libra: Ten of Coins
This month you may be thinking about planning for your future, especially with respect to your security and financial stability. The Ten of Coins — this version from the The Artist’s Inner Vision Tarot — is about building your empire, on whatever scale that might be.
It’s about achieving success through hard work and determination, as well as the satisfaction that comes with knowing that it’s all going to pay off in the end. Not just for you but for family and loved ones, as this card is also about creating a legacy that can be built on for generations to come.
In this card a pair of hands reach out toward the planet earth — representing openness and readiness to partake in the riches the Universe has to offer. The hands are a reminder of the give and take that is such a necessary part of achieving success, as we all know that no one gets their alone. Notice how the earth’s energy field / aura glows where the hands touch it.
The words “abundance” and “prosperity” are written on the card, with the word “be” stamped on one hand and a coin in the other. These are reminders that fulfillment comes from not just monetary gain but also community and global support.
The Ten of Coins is about establishing a lasting legacy for yourself and your loved ones. It’s about planning ahead for the future. No matter how successful you are already there’s more to be done, especially as it pertains to creating something that will live on long after you’re gone.
You could be thinking of starting a family or putting money aside for children you already have. You may be in the process of giving birth to something else — a business, a creative endeavor or a body of work. Whatever it is, know that this is something you want to be proud of, so put the extra energy into making sure you do it right.
SCORPIO: The Empress
It’s time to take things easy, sit back and not react to what is going on around you? Why should you when you are feeling so emotionally relaxed.
You may be feeling more peaceful and ready to clear up any emotional problems you have been experiencing or trying to get to the bottom of. Not much can go wrong for you and it is a great chance to become clear in your own mind where you want to go next.
It is as if you are sitting back and enjoying the ease that things may be starting to play out for you this month. You may have things to do but there is no urgency in accomplishing them especially if they are related to emotions or relationships.
In fact, any relationships around you just now will be feeling the beneficial effects of the grand trine so don’t go rocking any boats by trying to cause an argument or open something up for discussion if you know for a fact it will lead to choppy waters and not a calm sea.
You are striving for calmness this month so you are ready to face “come what may” in the weeks ahead. This is the time to rearrange your thoughts and emotions so they are in tune with you and what you want from a situation.
Look at the Empress in this card — from Nigel Jackson’s Medieval Enchantment Tarot — and notice her foot peeping out from under her gown. When you are ready to act and have consolidated your thoughts in line with your inner calmness you will simply get up and put your best foot forward and all will fall into place. Much like the pretty pink sky that you’re basking under in this card.
SAGITTARIUS: The Devil
You may be asking yourself this month whether the chains that bind you are external obstacles or self-imposed limitations.
It’s often easier to project the blame onto something outside of ourselves than it is to admit we’ve created our own roadblocks.
The Devil card speaks of obstacles, restrictions and limitations that keep us from achieving our goals. Sometimes the “darker” side of emotions surfaces with this card: rage, anger, jealousy and paranoia. Addictions and obsessions are a part of this and are sometimes so far removed from our awareness that we suffer from the ultimate Devil Card conundrum: denial.
Do you see how the tree in this card — from Dana Driscoll’s Tarot of Trees — appears to be chained to the earth but the chains are not tight, and you don’t actually see where they originate? And the raven in the branches: couldn’t he just fly away?
This is the message behind the imagery in this card. You can break free of your own limitations, as long as you’re willing to admit that they’re self-imposed. You may feel that circumstances in your life have prevented you from achieving your goals, or you may feel that others have stood in your way and there is probably some truth to both.
Whichever it is, know that the Devil card is here to remind you that only you can reclaim your power. You can liberate yourself from the chains that bind you only if you’re brave enough to face them first. In the end you’ll have to face the fact that nothing is holding you back but you.
CAPRICORN: Goddess of Wands
This is a good month to put your best foot forward and show the rest of the world what you’re made of.
The Queen of Wands in this version — from the Secret Language of Birds Tarot — is a Hindu Goddess set before the night sky and a field of tiny stars. She is clothed in royal garb with a decorative headdress, lavish robes and intricate jewels.
Even though she appears to be calm and gentle, there’s electricity in the air around her and flames emanating from her luminous wings. She gazes down upon her totem animal — the mythological Sharabha — with honor and respect.
Directly above her is the Leo constellation, with the fixed stars Denebola and Regulus most prominent. These stars refer to harsh judgment and disgrace (Denebola) and fame and hour (Regulus). The firm grasp she has on the Sharabha tells us that she strives to contain these powerful energies rather than fear or resist them. This Goddess is sometimes a force to be reckoned with. She’s noble and strong but her warm demeanor can sometimes disguise a more aggressive and controlling manner.
If this is someone in your life, know that she’s fair and up-standing and will not back down if pushed into a corner. She has firm boundaries and an innate sense of justice. If she believes in you she’ll have your back and defend your honor rigorously. But the presence of this card can also indicate a need for you to bring forth these qualities in yourself. It may mean stepping up and stating your case clearly, or it mean walking away rather than dignifying someone else’s failing.
Either way, the message behind this card refers to the need to conduct yourself with grace and integrity. Like the mythological Sharabha in this card, it may be necessary for you to embrace both the fierceness of the lion and the agility of the bird in order to meet your objectives.
AQUARIUS: King of Cups
The King of Cups is intuitive, sensitive and wise. And in this version — from the Ceccoli Tarot — he is a she. And what, pray tell, do you think she is doing looking like a little girl in a nursery playing with her toys? If you look closely though you will see that the gown she is wearing actually mimics that of a sea.
The boat, with the young man… whose hands are held out to her, is actually sailing towards her and the dragons who surround him in an effort to hold him back are also creatures within the “sea” of her dress.
This King of Cups says it’s ok to play around a little with what you are feeling, nothing is going to come up and grab you as long as you keep the “nightmares” away from you.
These nightmares may encompass a relationship where you are keeping the other person at arm’s length in a bid to keep yourself safe because your feelings have been hurt in the past and you are not willing to open your heart again and let them in.
If you find this is the case and the other person is willing to go through thick and thin to break down your barriers even at great risk to themselves then you may wish to cut them some slack and shake out those demons which are not only holding you back but holding the whole situation back as they stop anyone getting close to you.
Sit yourself down, brush yourself off, find the inner child within yourself and set forth again under your own terms knowing your heart is safe because this is the stuff dreams are made of. What’s your dream?
PISCES: Nine of Pentacles
This month is going to be all about attracting prosperity and abundance in your life.
The Nine of Pentacles speaks of shifting your attitude to one of gratitude. It speaks of feeling satisfied and fulfilled with where you are in your life — not just with respect to money and material possessions, but also to your own sense of self-worth.
It’s about being grateful for all you’ve acquired and recognizing that you deserve it. It’s about developing a prosperity consciousness, knowing that the Universe offers up unlimited abundance to those who do.
The Nine of Pentacles — this version from Sarah B. Seiter’s contribution to the beautiful 78 Tarot — represents that intricate and fulfilling balance between expressing gratitude and achieving prosperity.
The woman in this card looks like she may be struggling to maintain balance. She holds the strings to Nine Pentacles — five hanging from one hand and four from the other. And these are not just any old pentacles, they’re glowing disks with butterflies and pentagrams etched into them.
She may be dealing with conflicting priorities or she may have a hard time maintaining the equilibrium in her life.
This is a key feature with the Nine of Pentacles. Balancing out the give and take in your life while still maintaining your priorities. Remember that whatever you put out there — whether it’s time, energy, money or yourself — as well as whatever you’re open to receiving, will all balance out and be replenished over time.
