ARIES: Three of Pentacles
July is a good month to join heads with like-minded people in the spirit of community and cooperation. The Three of Pentacles — this version from the Cheimonette Tarot — is all about team-work, group efforts and collaboration. It’s a reminder that two (3 or 4) heads are better than one and that none of us can achieve alone what we can achieve with others.
Although many aspects of this card emphasize friendship and celebration, this one focuses more on integrating the disparate parts of self. Body, Mind and Spirit come to mind. The Three Pentacles in this version contain a Sun Face, an Eye and a panoramic scene with yogi and horse figures.
The disks are all interconnected with the Sun disk shining a little brighter over the other two. A crescent moon with another eye rests below the three disks. In addition to teamwork and collaboration, the Three of Pentacles also speaks of hitting your stride and seeing the initial results of something you’ve been working hard on.
It speaks of breathing new life into a project or finding the “key” to something that has been puzzling you and holding you back. The Three of Pentacles — like all threes — refers to the initial stages of progress where you’ve taken an idea (the Ace), put it into production (the Two) and are making progress now toward creating something real (the Three).
TAURUS: Eight of Swords
Are you feeling blocked or stuck in a situation or within yourself and unable to decide what to do? The Eight of Swords often implies you are not seeing the full picture and from this image you can see you are perhaps a little confused in what you are seeing and also how you are reacting to things.
When you look in the mirror or when you look at yourself you may not be given yourself enough credit in being able to act in your own best interests. The image of the tree in the mirror is like a barrier which gives the message that anything you do will not work as there is a problem no matter what you try thus keeping you trapped.
This sense of feeling trapped though is usually of your own doing as Swords stand for thoughts and ways of thinking. There are images of wisdom in this image — from the Dream Enchantress Tarot — alongside what looks like two blades coming out of the woman’s back.
Do you feel as if someone has stabbed you in the back and you are unsure who you can trust? Perhaps you need to look inside to your own inner wisdom and strength to carry you out of your self imposed prison as there is no one else in this image who can do it for you.
If you change your thoughts you can change the world around you and release yourself from whatever is holding you back and keeping you stuck.
GEMINI: Seven of Wands
You may feel the need to defend yourself this month or to hold your ground against what feels like perilous opposition.
The Seven of Wands speaks of a need to be more alert, guarded and cautious, rather than accepting things at face value. You may face opposition from others — in the form of competition or outright resistance.
You may feel attacked or ganged up on. As with all Sevens, there’s usually a moral dilemma or a situation in which you feel you’re being asked to compromise your ideals. This may be a friend who asks you to keep an uncomfortable confidence, an accusation that’s put you on the defence, or a situation in which you feel unfairly targeted. Either way you’re going to be called upon to take the high road, to stand your ground and to not allow yourself to back down.
The figure in this card — from the Deviant Moon Tarot — is braced for adversity. She’s guarded and defensive, but she doesn’t retreat: she proceeds cautiously ahead. And while the moon is partially obscured behind the thicket, it sheds just enough light on the path to help her find her way.
Think about the areas in your own life where you’re feeling more guarded and alert. You may feel challenged or unsupported, and it may be hard to see your way around the obstacles before you. But the Seven of Wands is a card of bravery; of standing tall, holding your ground and proceeding onward even in the face of adversity.
CANCER: High Priestess
Time to stop and think about all that knowledge you have accumulated and what you are going to do with it. You seem to be in two minds about something and at the same time these two different paths you are thinking of blend into one answer.
Do not allow yourself to feel hemmed in because you have such a lot going on this month that you need the freedom of being able to take a different direction at the drop of a hat.
There are people to help you do this as well as your own intuition which is highly charged just now and allowing you to think not just with your head but also with your heart.
You may wish to look to the past for answers to present problems and draw upon your knowledge of what has come before. The three apples in your lap indicate that you will be faced with choices that may at first seem too good to be true but for some reason you are not taking the first steps to try them yet.
What does that say about the choices? Is it that you are in some way intuitively tuned into knowing it may not be the right choice for you at present? Don’t get too bothered with it all though as you have plenty of protection around you so you are not going to get hurt.
LEO: Red Phoenix Queen
As you settle down and take stock of the last few weeks and what has been around in your life you may come up with the feeling that you need a bit of a holiday from life.
You may have felt as if your life is changing and possibly at some points choices you wished to make were taken out of your hands.
It is as though you have reached an impasse and even though the Phoenix soars to life over your shoulder you are not in any way, shape or form wanting to look at it to see where it may lead you next.
No… you are wanting to rest and assimilate that which has been going on for you and not allowing you to touch your feet on solid ground.
The sparseness of the landscape in this card — from the Feng Shui Tarot — which you shy away from is at odds with the modern tiles you sit upon once again showing the stark nature of where you are, where you have been and how the hell are you going to get yourself to where you want to be.
Although you are averting your eyes to the phoenix rising next to you it is perhaps this that you need to look at to know what is needed next. The Phoenix is a symbol of transformation. It can take you places you never believed and deliver you unharmed to a life of your dreams.
VIRGO: Nine of Lights
This can be a rewarding and fulfilling month for you. The Nine of Lights provides you with opportunities to count your blessings, thank your lucky stars and be witness to miracles taking place all around you.
This card (referred to as the Nine of Cups in most decks) refers to abundance, prosperity, happiness and fulfilment. It’s a card of gratitude and wonder; it speaks of being present in the moment and willing to receive all that the Universe has to offer.
What resonates in this image is the recognition of how small most of our mundane concerns really are. It is this attitude that is the cornerstone of the Law of attraction principles — if we focus on what’s big (important) and good (meaningful), we can attract more of the same in our lives.
The Nine of Cups is known as the “wish card:” it refers to manifesting your desires and rejoicing in their blessings. It refers to attracting and appreciating all that life has to offer — which means you also want to be careful what you wish for.
While the Nine of Lights version — from the Dante Tarot — strays in some ways from traditional tarot interpretations, the message is very much the same. Ask and it shall be given; focus on the light and be willing to rise above your petty worries, and remember to be thankful for all that you receive.
LIBRA: Six of Swords
Breathe in, breathe out and shake it all about. This month is great for travelling. Whether that travel is done internally or it is a journey you shall make it is designed to shake you up a bit and get you thinking in a new way.
You may have felt stuck within a situation and need an energy boost to see it in a new way. The vibrant orange/red in this card — from the Yoga Tarot — shows that you are not as calm as you show on the outside. There is the makings of a storm within you and this may be linked to you dredging up past memories.
If you find this is the case look at how you dealt with similar situations in the past. You may have reacted calmly and not given your true thoughts or emotions a voice which has in turn left you boiling over inside as you are once again confronted with the energetic imprint of these thoughts and emotions.
This can be a problem if you react quickly because those around you and possibly even yourself may not understand these reactive explosions. If you try to hold it in it may eat away at you and you find yourself tense and irritable with no amount of calmness overcoming this mood.
Sometimes holding everything in when it should’ve been diffused previously does neither you nor anyone else any favours. It can also leave you out in the cold and feeling alone.
SCORPIO: Two of Cups
The Two of Cups is a card of love. In this version of the card — from the beautiful Chinese Tarot — a man is seen sitting sage-like on a bench made of uneven rocks whilst he pays homage to the Sun (or is that a full Moon?).
It is difficult to decipher whether this is dusk or dawn due to the gorgeous shade of blue in the sky, and as we all know even a full Moon can be seen in the broad light of day.
Is he trying to balance his emotions or is he trying to bring a relationship back into emotional stability through his own efforts?
Take a look at the bright circle in the pale blue sky and decide whether this relates to the sun or moon for you. Imagine yourself as the figure on the stone platform playing homage to the circle in the sky (keep in mind whether this a sun or moon for you) and lose yourself within its orb.
As you do so you may like to make a wish related to your love life because miracles are possible. Whilst your focus is lost within the orb (sun/moon) move your eyes over to the right hand side of the card and look within the bamboo shoots.
There is a figure within the bamboo, cunningly hidden and waiting to be discovered. I’ll leave the discovery and what the meaning is for you.
SAGITTARIUS: King of Swords
You may have to put your foot down this month and be stern with someone that you’ve let slide in the past. Alternately you may be on the receiving end of someone else’s objective and impartial sense of discipline.
The King of Swords — this version from the Tarot of the Tattoo Age — is a no-nonsense individual who metes out justice with a fair and authoritative hand. He may be a parent, a supervisor, a judge, or even a friend that steps in to give you a reality check when you need one most.
As with all court cards this can also refer to you — or to a state of mind that you need to develop — in order to preserve a sense of order in your life. You may have felt taken advantage of by someone who overstepped their bounds and this card encourages you to resolve that problem by taking a more authoritative stance.
This card can refer to a need for justice and symmetry in your life. Or it can mark the presence of someone whose sense of authority and justice overrides personal investments. Whether this is you or another, the underlying message is the same.
Step away from emotional attachments and make your decisions based on what is right, fair, and most importantly best for you in the long run.
CAPRICORN: Five of Swords
If you rush into something too quickly this month you may find that it comes back to bite you.
Think of what your Achilles heel is and keep an eye on it because it may not only be you who is affected. Someone will have your back and you need to be aware that your actions do not only affect you but others also.
If you find yourself at odds within a situation do not come out fighting because if you do you may find you have done exactly what the other person wanted all along and as there is total balance in this image — from the 78 Tarot — you don’t want to go rocking any boats to put yourself at a disadvantage.
It may be that you are on the verge of leaving a relationship, a job or simply have had enough of your life at present and want to throw it all in and start something new. However, what you do not need is action that is not well thought out… rather you need a plan.
Sometimes it is difficult to see the woods from the trees but if you can imagine glimpses of your wishes coming into reality then you get the idea of what you need to do and why it is so important to hold off for the time being.
AQUARIUS: The Sun
You’re as busy as a bee and just like a bee the need for you to get through an amazing amount of work and tasks will pay off in the end as the card of the Sun shines down on you and all that you do.
Lay down your foundations and also remember that bees pollinate and this means that the tasks you do this month will spring forth and multiply in the weeks to come alongside their own way of getting through things without the need for you to be so hands on. Many hands make light work and this is what you are aiming for.
Try to find some “you” time or use those wings to fly away and let your hair down with some rest and recreation.
There is a certain nourishing quality to this image — from the Ceccoli Tarot — where what you do reinforces what you have been hoping and wishing for and as you see the fruits of your labour multiply around you and take shape you are rewarded with more nourishing qualities for yourself and to your own life.
Don’t go tripping over your own feet in an effort to rush things through because although there is precious little chance of you falling given you have wings to balance your footing you also need to stop and smell the flowers once in a while… life is not all work and no play.
PISCES: Page of Pentacles
If you find yourself in a bit of a jam this month you have only to look around you to see where the problem may have originated.
Rather than staying still and not doing anything your best course of action may be to reach out with both hands and get the ball rolling in the direction you wish to go.
If you are waiting for an answer to something to unlock you from your inaction then you may be waiting a while as the only person who can free you from the restraints placed upon you is yourself. It may not have been you who placed those restraints on you in the first place but it is you who can remove them.
Keep this in mind when you feel you have no recourse other than waiting for help to come along. There is a great deal of creativity around for you this month and if you have the courage to step forward and release yourself from that which binds you then you will find that you can step out into a brand new direction.
A direction you have perhaps been dreaming about but keeping the dream to yourself. Open your eyes and take that first step… you never know where it will lead you.
