Oppression

Oppression

Today’s Saturn / Jupiter square may force you to look at where you’ve been beating a dead horse in certain areas of your life.

You may be questioning whether something is worth putting more effort and energy into — such as a job, a relationship, or a business venture that’s not paying off. — or whether it’s time to throw in the towel.

The Oppression card —  Vision Quest Tarot’s version of the Ten of Wands — answers this question in a multitude of ways.

The Sun is setting, the embers are dying down and the dear’s carcass has been picked clean. Even the Ten Wands (arrows in this card) are lined up and crossing one another in a ceremonial formation, signifying defeat.

The Jupiter / Saturn square can put a damper on your plans but if so you can bet they weren’t as well-laid as you thought. The Jupiter portion of this configuration may have relied too much on faith, while the Saturn portion serves as a wake up call.

In this respect, today’s Jupiter / Saturn reality check may be a blessing in disguise.

The weight of responsibilities you’ve taken on may seem like a heavy load — too heavy in fact for just one person to carry. The Ten of Wands says it’s time to lighten your load. Get rid of what is no longer worth holding onto, and work on salvaging what’s left.

Ten of Wands

You may have to face some harsh facts today about a situation that’s become too difficult for you to handle. You could be carrying too heavy a load or holding onto an ideal that’s just not paying off. Or you may be confronted with a painful reality about something (or someone) that is no longer serving you.

You might experience this first hand on the job or in a stressful relationship or even in your own head. If you’ve been giving — of your time, energy, money, affection, etc. — until you find that you have nothing left to give, that is the essence of the Ten of Wands.

The Ten of Wands is usually and indication that you’re working too hard or taking on more responsibilities than you can handle. You may feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, or are so consumed with work that you have no time left for play.

In this version of the card — from Timothy Lantz’s beautiful Archeon Tarot — we see that the ten wands are in fact spears with skulls placed at their tips, all of them dripping blood.

Ancient traditions tell us that these are placed as warnings to those who dare trespass on sacred grounds. A raging fire burns in the background, casting an orange glow onto the autumn moon. There’s also a tribal element to this rendition, with the feathered headdresses and ceremonial colors.

As foreboding and ominous as this may seem, the Ten of Wands refers to the end of an arduous journey — and the end of hardship and adversity. At least with respect to this specific endeavor. Look at where you’ve been working yourself to death, or giving all that you’ve got and seeing no progress, or carrying all of the load to the point of exhaustion, and ask yourself if you need to just put it to rest?

The death and destruction images in this card are saying that it’s time to accept defeat and let it go. It’s also a message to learn something from this experience, so that you don’t repeat the same mistakes. There’s an air of bravery and defiance present in this card, that can carry you through to the next chapter in your life.

Ten of Wands

Ten of Wands

It may feel like it’s all work and no play for you today, especially with the Full Moon opposing Mars.

— the Ten of Wands from Dana Driscoll’s gorgeous Tarot of Trees — emphasizes responsibilities and duties which have become priorities, forcing you to deal with them rather than devoting your time and energy to what you really want to do.

Today’s Mars / Pluto inconjunct may have you feel overburdened and oppressed. The weight of responsibilities you’ve taken on may seem like a heavy load — too heavy in fact for just one person to carry. The Full Moon is in tense aspect to Mercury and Mars as well, increasing the potential for added irritability and tension.

You may also feel like you’re carrying “extra baggage” — whether this refers to your own struggles or those of someone else. There’s a strong possibility you’ve taken on someone else’s problems, rather than letting them iron them out themselves. As a result, it may feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, with no time or energy left to attend to your own needs.

The seed of an idea has sprouted, but as you can see it’s getting very little nourishment — even though the Sun is shining in the background. The trees on either side are so tightly intertwined that they’re blocking out all the light.

The Ten of Wands encourages you to lighten your load: you’ll have to find a way to nurture your own ideas, needs and interests, or risk seeing everyone else’s problems interfering with your progress.

Ten of Wands

Ten of Wands

You may feel like life is a bit of a struggle today, or that all of your efforts are being met with resistance.

As Mars opposes Saturn and Venus squares the Nodes, you may be feeling overwhelmed with the amount of work laid out before you, especially if you’re trying to accomplish more than is humanly possible (and let’s face it, you probably are).

The Mars / Saturn opposition is the classic “running into a brick wall” aspect, which can can be incredibly frustrating, as the part of you that wants to make things happen (Mars) keeps getting thwarted by external events (Saturn).

This can be a person, such as a boss, partner, or authority figure, or if can be an event, such as an impossible deadline or unexpected delay.  The Venus / Node aspect says you may feel shut out or alone, or that the support youre looking from from others just isn’t there.

This version of the Ten of Wands, from the gorgeous Gypsy Palace Tarot, takes a light-hearted look at this scenario. As the man tries to make his way up the incline before him, his efforts are undermined by a tree frog’s subversive acts.

Everything about this card says “hard work” and “frustration.” The incline is rocky and treacherous. The man’s robes are cumbersome and stiff. And his arms are held down — or at least hidden from view — so much so that he’s not even able to swat the flies away that are buzzing around his head.

You may be overwhelmed with all that’s laid out before you today. And you may be wondering whether you even have it in you to keep on plodding ahead. But as you can see from this card there’s no turning back.

This is the Ten of Wands dilemma: You can’t exactly throw in the towel and say “I’m done.” There are obligations and responsibilities to uphold as well as people who depend on you who’d likely be hurt by your neglect. The question you might want to ask yourself today is this: “Is life (or love) supposed to be this hard?” The value of whatever it is that’s taxed you to your limits probably needs to be reassessed.

Ten of Wands

Ten of Wands

You may feel like you’ve taken on too many responsibilities and have overextended yourself to the point of exhaustion.

The Ten of Wands — this version from the beautiful Infinite Visions Tarot —  refers to being overburdened and overtaxed; feeling overwhelmed by the work ahead of you and seeing no real end in sight.

Here we see an old man kneeling down amidst a pile of books that represent all the work he has to do. He doesn’t know where to begin.

The Wands stacked around him represent more responsibilities – more piles of work — including the one he holds in his hand.

The keys lying next to him may represent the solution to his dilemma but he’s so focused on the mountain of work that surrounds him he doesn’t even notice them.

Nor does he pay attention to the bird squawking at him from the ledge — perhaps here to deliver an important message that gets drowned out by all the worries taking up space in his head.

The Ten of Wands refers to a situation that’s so overwhelming and exhausting that you’re left feeling completely spent.

But notice the Sun peering through the storm clouds in the distance. It’s an indication there there is a silver lining to your situation and that it doesn’t have to be that hard. Although this transit (and this card) may have you feeling like you’re doing all the work and reaping none of the benefits, they’re both character building archetypes that ultimately promote growth.

You may feel like you’re alone in the world or that you’re not getting any outside support — which is especially true right now with today’s Sun / Saturn square. But it’s important to note that there are solutions to your dilemmas (the “keys” to your problems) and outside messages that can lighten the load.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Aug 9, 2014 — Ten of Spirals

Ten of Spirals

Ten of Spirals

As the Sun conjuncts Mercury today there is an abundance of thoughts and ideas for you… not to mention perhaps the need to talk more than usual. However, as this aspect is being squared by Saturn there is also the feeling that you need to be a bit careful in what you say or a sense of holding back.

If you look at this image of the ten Spirals you will get the general idea of what you may be up against today and how to make it work for you.

As the human part of the centaur tries to race ahead (Sun conjunct Mercury) the horse part can be seen trying to hold back (Saturn). There are several choices you may be making today and it may not do well for you to rush into the first one you deem fit or that takes your attention because all roads looked as if they are “paved with gold”. What is important is that you plan ahead and are seen not to be carrying a heavy load when you get to the end of the road (choice) you make.

Right now you may feel as if you are carrying the world on your back and indeed from this image you are. Yet the spirals in their various shapes and colours may also be a “gift” just waiting to be unravelled that will serve you best on another path or on another day. Do not discard all thoughts and ideas today and blindly rush in because you think you need to be “doing” something.

Hezicos Tarot -- Judgment

Aries:  Judgement

What decisions have you been needing to make and perhaps been putting off for a while.

You seem to be very clear in what you are thinking but perhaps the outcome you are hoping to achieve seems out of your reach as different aspects of it come to mind and your clear thinking is not correlating with the clear actions you need to take to reach your goal.

This is such a beautiful card… it is a card to get “lost” in whilst you take a step back in order to clarify what you really want to do.

Your mind looks so busy covered in a red hood, the creatures of the sea, both mythical and not, dance around you almost daring you to take your eye of your goal and come and play with them for a while.

Perhaps this is what you really need… to take yourself out of such serious contemplation of decision making and throw yourself into a little bit of fun and playfulness for a while. By doing so you may distract yourself to the point that the answers come more clearly to you.

Ten of Wands

Ten of Wands

You may feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders today, which appears to be exactly what’s happening with the young Dryad in this card.

The Ten of Wands refers to a situation that’s so overwhelming and exhausting that you’re left feeling completely spent. You may feel like you’re all alone in the world or that you’re not getting any outside support — which is especially true right now with today’s Sun / Saturn opposition.

What do you think would happen if the Dryad tried to just lay down her load and walk away? Everything would fall apart of course. And the same thing would happen to you.

This is the Ten of Wands dilemma: You can’t just throw in the towel and say “I’m done.” There are obligations and responsibilities to uphold as well as people who depend on you who’d likely be hurt by your neglect.

The question you might want to ask yourself today is this: “Is life (or love) supposed to be this hard?” The value of whatever it is that’s taxed you to your limits probably needs to be reassessed.

A Saturn / Sun opposition can also manifest as a rejection or as an encounter with someone who makes you feel inadequate. Much like the Ten of Wands, it’s the Universe’s way of forcing you to go it alone in order to foster autonomy.

Ten of Wands

Ten of Wands

Are you feeling a little grey and forlorn but want others to see you as colorful and happy?

Do you find yourself hiding behind a false persona and not yet ready to show yourself as you really are?

There is a situation going on around you just now that you are not ready to face.

You are taking some “time out” and do not wish to show your true colours (or your hand) in what you are truly thinking or what you are going to do next.

The path you stand on looks a bit precarious to me so you may wish to take a few moments to yourself and decide what your next step will be.

There is only so long you can push others away especially when you are not standing on firm ground yourself.  You are not ready for what is to come next.

You need some time to gather yourself and decide what your next course of action will be.

September 2013 Tarot Scopes featuring the Archeon Tarot

Seven of Swords

ARIES: The Seven of Swords — like all sevens — speaks of difficult choices and moral dilemmas. There are temptations disguised as opportunities, which could turn out to be more than you bargained for in the end.

In this rendition, we see a raven perched before the light of a full moon, a glowing sun time-piece dangling from his beak. A legend is told in Native American traditions of a snow white bird who steals the sun and moon and places them in the night sky. The sun is so hot that it chars his white feathers, rendering them permanently black.

There are four swords piercing the moon and three penetrating the earth below it. As the moon represents mystery, illusion and the depths of the human psyche, we can see this as a need to penetrate the veil that obscures our motivations.  We’re reminded that all that glitters is not gold, that there are consequences for our actions. The concept of time is also relevant here, as in keeping track of time, not wasting time, and making time for things that are most important.

There are elements of mischief, trickery and even thievery in this card, You may be tempted to engage in practices that are not aligned with your principles. Or you may be the recipient of someone else’s duplicity. But these same elements can be used to your benefit. The seven of swords represents skill and ingenuity as well. You must have a sharp mind and a vigilant approach if you’re to navigate through some of the obstacles before you. Opportunities come your way, but there’s always a catch. Just like the raven whose cunning and prowess has rewarded him with the fiery sun, but whose feathers have become permanently charred in the process.

ARIES: The Moon

This month you may feel like you’re navigating through murky waters.

The Moon card has a lot to do with that which is hidden, beneath the surface, unconscious or undiscovered.

There is a strong emotional element inherent in this card. And while emotions are not something easily digested by Aries — particularly the “darker” emotions, such as fear, anxiety and insecurity — it’s necessary to explore them if you’re going to resolve the issues that have been hounding you.

But don’t let your imagination run away with you: there’s also some danger of reading too much into things, making mountains out of mole hills or even becoming suspicious or paranoid.

Use this time to get in touch with your emotions and to resolve whatever fears and uncertainties you have that have been holding you back.
