Eight of Cups

Today you may be taking a serious look at what (and whom) in your life you need to put behind you.

The Eight of Cups may seem like a difficult card, and the decisions that accompany it may not be a walk in the park, but in the end it can be tremendously empowering.

Here we see the goddess Persephone walking empty-handed into the unknown. Eight golden vessels stand upright behind her, reflecting the difficulties associated with walking away from something that was once fulfilling.

This should be a period of cleaning out closets, weeding unhealthy relationships from your life and letting go of outdated beliefs and fears. It’s cathartic in the sense that it forces you to look at what’s no longer working for you and to do something about it.

There is a natural sense of purpose associated with this card, even if it brings with it some sadness or loneliness. It may be that the Universe has something different (better) in store for you, and it may be that your current life circumstances are leading you down a different path.

It’s the difference between “fate” and “destiny” — or more specifically the difference between letting life happen to you and making it happen yourself.

You’ll have to remember that the emptiness and loneliness you feel is temporary, and a necessary part of getting to the other side.

Looks like the day after the night before whereupon there was an eclipse in Scorpio.

As you settle down and take stock of the last few weeks and what has been around for you you may come up with the feeling that you need a bit of a holiday from life.

Astrologically the last few weeks have been heavily laden with many planetary aspects alongside the eclipses that may well have seen your life changing and possibly at some points choices you wished to make were taken out of your hands.

It is as though you have reached an impasse and even though the phoenix soars to life over your shoulder you are not in any way, shape or form wanting to look at it to see where it may lead you next.

No… you are wanting to rest and assimilate that which has been going on for you and not allowing you to touch your feet on solid ground.

The sparseness of the landscape which you shy away from is at odds with the modern tiles you sit upon once again showing the stark nature of where you are, where you have been and how the hell are you going to get yourself to where you want to be.

Although you are averting your eyes to the phoenix rising next to you it is perhaps this that you need to look at to know what is needed next.

Knight of Wands

Energy is high today as the Sun sextiles Mars and allows for a freedom that you may not have felt recently.

Any correspondence or communications you need to catch up on can go a bit more smoothly today even with Mercury retrograde as it is.

You seem to have a spring in your step and a devil may care attitude that anything you do today can be accomplished.

This is throughout all aspect of your life. From the round coin shapes under your feet to the love hearts you are about to land on… it’s all like frosting on the cake and there for your pleasure.

If there is a situation that has been making your nervous and ill at ease to the point that you want to escape it but don’t know the best way to go about it then today you may just find yourself throwing caution to the wind and just moving on.

Nothing is going to hold you back. The Knight of Wands tells you that everything you want to achieve today is yours for the taking. The sky is the limit — you just need to give it everything you have as you reach for your goals.

You have the energy and intention today to do anything… even if it may not be what others want you to do.

Two of Mirrors

Everything is going smoothly today… life is just drifting by and you with it.

With Venus conjunct the node and sextile Jupiter it is as if nothing can bother your or get in your way of the peace and happiness you feel. There is nothing wrong with this and whilst you are in your own little world you can actually accomplish a lot.

If you have been having problems with your partner then today is the day to plan something together as the planets are smiling down on you to do so.

From the looks of this image though you may want to make your time together low key and not spend it around other people. This is a day about togetherness and strengthening the bonds you share.

It is not the day to go out and join others unless you have a point to make by showing solidarity because today you surely will be showing the strength of your solidarity together.

Notice as the swan’s heads come together and they gaze into each other’s eyes the posture forms the formation of a heart alongside their hearts meeting and joining together at the base of their chests.

This is something you can use to your advantage today and even if you have no one in your life and are single perhaps it is time you looked at yourself in the mirror and repeated all of your best qualities to the reflection you find there.

Seven of Pentacles

You could be feeling frustrated today over something that’s taking longer to manifest than you’d hoped for. While the urge to push ahead anyway and move things at a faster pace will be strong, the Seven of Pentacles encourages you to do otherwise.

It says it’s time to step back, test the waters, and assess the progress you’ve already made before you plan your next move.

It’s about getting your ducks in a row and taking the time to finesse your plans before you act on them — even if you’re tempted to push forward prematurely.

In this version of the card we see a little witch figure standing before a tree under the light of a New Moon. Perhaps she needs some of the tree’s life essence to cast a spell. But she pokes at it with her wand and draws blood.

We can see all seven pentacles growing on the limbs of the tree, but there are no leaves and no flowers: they too are not quite ripe for the picking.

There’s a sense with this card that it’s just not time; she’s just not ready; and there are still preparations to be made.

Think about the things in your own life that need still need time to develop and mature.

It could be a promotion that feels like it’s taking too long to materialize. It could be a relationship that’s not moving forward as quickly as you’d like. Or you may be just feeling frustrated with the pace things are moving in your day to day life.

Ace of Wands

The world is your oyster today with a grand trine of planets in fire signs. As the Ace of Wands is the beginning of the fire sign energy in the tarot pack what better card to focus on for today.

It stands for energy, new projects, launching yourself in a different way — whether this be outwards in something you do differently in your life or inwards in something you start believing about yourself, which will propel you forward toward accomplishing your goals.

Mars, Jupiter and Uranus are in a grand trine today which gives you the extra energy (in abundance) to plow through anything you need to do.

This is also a great combination of planets as it generally heralds a time where you can work in a complementary way with what you have around you.

Mars gives you energy, Jupiter gives you luck and expansion of ideas whilst Uranus is the wild child and can turn your luck in any given direction.

Keep this in mind with what you plan to do today as you may find that circumstances change for you and you are sent in a totally different direction to that which you first started.

The Hierophant

What do you know and what don’t you know? Are you preaching to the converted or are they preaching to you?

The Hierophant is about knowledge and from what can be seen in this version of the card it looks as if there is a long lost wisdom being given out to the masses under various guises.

Where does this wisdom come from and where is it going?

If you look at the base of the tree it is as if wisdom is still being learned and put into practice and if you have found yourself perhaps sitting back and “looking” at life without partaking in it then you will know that you are still learning and becoming wise but from a different perspective than if you had been involved in a situation.

On the other side of the coin the various figures surrounding the tree who look to be actively requesting information and wisdom may all be in the throes of their own personal dramas and not seeing the facts clearly.

This is what it can be like when you are caught up in life all around you and doing things too quickly, becoming emotional and not sitting back to learn from your past mistakes.

We all sometimes need a wise observer or friend who can guide us when we have become so embroiled in a situation that we can’t see things clearly.

Eight of Spirals

As Venus goes into opposition to Neptune today you need to not allow yourself to act impulsively especially where your love life is concerned.

There is a fair degree of quickness and speed to this Eight of Spirals which gives the impression that if you rush into something too quickly you may end up not knowing where you stand.

Alternatively you may be looking for a way out of something and decide the best course you should take is just walk away (or run) as quickly as you can.

Sometimes you are justified in removing yourself from a situation as quickly as possible and other times you may find you need to give a reason or two for your imminent departure.

The Eight of Spirals is also a card of communication whether this be phone, email, text or face to face. It is the type of communication that comes up suddenly without warning. You may hear from someone you were not expecting to hear from.

As the Eight of Spirals shoots across the rising (or setting) sun there is the suggestion that what has been around for you the past few days may have been triggered by the recent full moon which fell on the 8th or 9th (depending on which part of the world you are in).

Nine of Wands

You may have to dig deep to push past some of the obstacles and frustrations you’re dealing with in your life right now.

And with a stressful aspect between Mercury and Pluto today, you might have to step back, take a breath and remind yourself that it’s not as bad as it seems. You may not be where you expected to be at this point, but you’ve still got a lot of fight left in you and you’re closer to the finish line than you know.

The Nine of Wands can refer to a moment of uncertainty or hesitation that comes after you’ve given what feels like your ALL and still haven’t seen the results for your efforts.

You may have been frustrated with the lack of progress — or worse — come *this close* to completing your journey, only to find another road-block directly ahead of you.

But if you look at it from an evolutionary perspective, you may be better able to understand why you’ve been forced to step back and to re-evaluate your needs. Perhaps the setbacks you’ve encountered haven’t been setbacks at all. Perhaps they’ve been lessons in disguise.

The figure in this card is surrounded by minor obstacles. A half formed “wall” encircles her with 8 flimsy rods stuck into the ground around it. The rods all have smiling cartoonish faces on them — including the one she’s retrieved and holds in her hand.

Eight of Pentacles

What are you working on today that you’ve put all of your heart and soul into?

With Venus moving into Virgo today, working (Virgo) on something you love (Venus) should be taking center stage.

The Eight of Pentacles is sometimes referred to as the “apprenticeship” card as it relates to fully investing yourself in a skill or trade. It’s usually a labor of love. It’s not about seeing work as drudgery, but instead being totally engaged in whatever it is you’re devoting your time to.

The Eight of Pentacles also sometimes has to do with changing gears — as in finding your calling at a point where you might have already considered yourself well on the road to success in some other profession.

See the woman in this card putting the finishing touch on one of her pieces. All the others are displayed with pride on the wall behind her. She’s not hunched over some desk crunching numbers: she’s got a smile on her face and a bounce in her step.

This is the essence of the Eight of Pentacles: It’s all about perfecting your skills and doing it with such joy and contentment that the finished product is something you can be proud of.

The High Priestess

As the Sun trines Neptune today, you may be feeling more sensitive, more intuitive, and more aligned with the inner-workings of your psyche.

This transit can bring in psychic impressions, such as astral travel, lucid dreams or déjà vu experiences. While that may be a bit unnerving for you at first it can open up doors for you that you never dreamed possible.

The High Priestess is a strong feminine energy — regardless of your gender. It speaks of feminine strength and wisdom and all the secrets of the universe unveiled.

We see the Priestess in this card standing before the esoteric symbols of an astrological chart, with the glowing orb of the full moon at before her. It appears to be hovering in mid-air while she gazes into it, divining her / your / our future.

She is both young and old, embodying both innocence and wisdom at once. A lunar goddess rests in the crescent of another moon behind her.

You may be getting more in touch with your own intuition, or thinking about delving into the mystery schools — learning tarot, astrology, numerology, etc. Or you may find yourself experiencing profound instances or deja vu or synchronicity.

You may also be experiencing bursts of creativity and inspiration. Another possibility, one that comes unexpectedly, is a sudden onset of clairvoyance or psychic impressions.

Five of Pentacles

Pay attention to your finances today — meaning not just your income, but also savings and expenditures.

The Five of Pentacles can mark a period of financial adversity, such as seeing your earnings held up or seeing your resources dwindling as a result of unexpected expenses.

As Pentacles are linked to “values,” we most often think of money. But they also relate to self-worth: it’s hard to feel good about yourself when you’re struggling — financially or otherwise.

In this version of the card we see a woman attempting to slink away from a church unnoticed, under the dark of night. Has she sought sustenance there, only to be turned away? Or is she so afraid to reach out for help in the first place that she never even bothered to knock?

There’s a cross in the window, made up of five gold coins (pentacles). An eye watches her from the doorway as she slips away.

There are elements of shame and humiliation inherent in this imagery. She may have gotten caught doing something she knows was wrong.

She doesn’t have anything on her person to sustain her — and she doesn’t have a friend to turn to. She’s naked and alone.
