Free Daily Tarotscope — Jul 14, 2015 — Five of Cups

Five of Cups

Five of Cups

It’s not so easy to focus on what you have when you’re busy thinking about what you lack. This is especially true today as Venus and Saturn move into hard aspect, making the potential for seeing the glass as half full stronger than ever.

In this case it’s three glasses (or rather three cups) and they’re not just half-full, they’ve all been tipped over and have spilled their contents onto the ground.

But if you look at the figure in the card — the Five of Cups from the Hudes Tarot  you can see that there are two cups still upright and full, right there behind him.

He doesn’t even notice the upright cups; he’s so busy mourning the loss of the ones that have spilled. And this is the essence of the Five of Cups. Something has definitely been lost — never to be retrieved — but there’s also still something left, and he only has to broaden his perspective to see it.

The Five of Cups says that it is imperative to start focusing more on what you have than what you lack. Yes you may have been bruised and battered. And yes you have every right to feel let down. But it’s not going to do you any good to cry over spilt milk (or in this case wine).

You’ll have to dust yourself off, put a smile on your face and tend to the two cups that are still standing if you want to make sense of all that you’ve been through. You won’t be able to salvage everything. But remember that all has not been lost. The Venus / Saturn square will soon pass, and as tomorrow is a New Moon, you can start thinking again about the future.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jul 12, 2015 — Queen of Swords

Queen of Swords

Queen of Swords

You may have to adopt a bit of an “ice queen” persona today, much like the Queen of Swords — from the gorgeous Faerie Tarot — depicted in this card.

Sometimes it’s necessary to detach yourself from emotional responses in order to get a job done. You may find yourself in a position of authority, having to “lay down the law” rather than listening to excuses or rationales.

That doesn’t mean you have to be “cold” — even though this Queen and her familiar (a beautiful stoat sporting his winter coat) are seen here in the midst of an icy landscape. What it does mean though is that you’ll have to make decisions based on logic and principle rather than being swayed by emotional attachments.

Today’s Moon in Gemini is in mutual reception with Mercury in Cancer. This combination acts as a natural conduit between the realm of emotions (Cancer) and ideas (Gemini). It allows you to detach enough from your feelings to make informed and rational decisions without sacrificing kindness or sensitivity.

The Queen of Swords may seem cold, but underneath her icy exterior lies a heart of gold. Notice the fiery hilt of her sword placed directly over her heart. She tends to her pet with the same loving care that a mother expresses for her child. Keep this in mind today if you find yourself having to mete out justice of your own.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jul 9, 2015 — Six of Swords

Six of Swords

Six of Swords

You may be on the verge of making important changes in your life, and in doing so will have to think about what you’re taking with you and what you need to leave behind.

This doesn’t necessarily mean material things; in fact that’s rarely what it means. It’s more about attitudes and belief systems, as well as a life you may have built and dreams you may have dreamed that are no longer capable of sustaining you.

The Six of Swords is all about transitions, and in most decks (including this one) about leaving something painful behind in an effort to move toward “the light.”

You may be moving, changing jobs, ending a relationship, or releasing some baggage that’s been holding you back. Although this card refers to change more than it does to endings, there are elements of “clearing the slate” that are a necessary part of this process.

In this version of the card — from the Deviant Moon Tarot —  we see the swords used practically and efficiently in the structure of a hot air balloon that is floating toward a better life. The balloon itself emanates from the woman’s head, a nice reference to the importance of using one’s head to overcome obstacles. The city burns behind her. The face on the front of the vessel is serene, and while the woman herself may be sad, she’s not looking back.

This is the message behind the Six of Swords. You may not be where you want to be just yet, but you’re moving in the right direction. It also provides clarity and perspective. We may see things we don’t want to see — or admit to ourselves — but it’s that kind of clarity that motivates us toward change.

Take a moment today to reflect on where you are and where you want to be heading. This is the first step, courtesy of the Six of Swords, toward manifesting your goals.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jul 7, 2015 — Ace of Pentacles

Ace of Pentacles

Ace of Pentacles

Today is a good day to be counting your blessings and focusing on attracting more of the same into your life.

The Ace of Pentacles — this version from the Morgan Greer Tarot — refers to new opportunities for growth, prosperity and abundance, of which material (financial) gain is only a small part of.

It refers to planting seeds which then grow and flourish, and ultimately begin to propagate and replenish themselves — much like the grape vines framing the scarab on this card.

You want to be focusing on what you have today rather than what you lack. What you’ve invited into your life rather than what you’ve left behind. And what you’re putting out there now, as a means of attracting more of the same.

The Ace of Pentacles — like all Aces — is a card of assurance and inspiration. It’s a “Yes” card, a manifesting card, a card of limitless promise and potential. It’s an essence rather than a “thing,” which means you have a lot of say in how it plays out.

If it’s money you want (or security, stability, comfort, etc.) now is the time to work on attracting more of it into your life.

You may be in line for a raise or promotion, or you could learn of job opportunity that involves a bigger salary. You could also be the benefactor of someone else’s generosity. Either way, you should have more opportunities and more financial resources at your disposal than you’ve had in recent days.

You may also feel that your luck is changing. As the Ace of Pentacles is associated with a positive change in fortune. It’s telling you to keep up the good work, to go after your dreams, and to be open to all that the Universe has to offer you.

But remember that money is called “currency” for a reason: It’s expected to flow, both to us and from us. We need to be willing to put our own resources to use if we want to attract more of the same.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jul 5, 2015 — Six of Cups

Six of Cups

Six of Cups

Today is a day for pleasant thoughts and communications, courtesy of a harmonious aspect between Mercury and Venus.

The Mercury / Venus sextile — in curious, inquisitive Gemini and warm, gregarious Leo — is all about cooperation and compromise.

And the Six of Cups — this version comes from Jennifer Galasso’s gorgeous Crystal Visions Tarot — speaks of innocence, sentimentality and memories from days gone by. You may be missing someone, longing for the comforts and companions that have gone by the wayside over time.

You could also hear from an old friend unexpectedly today. Someone who’s been on your mind and who reaches out across the miles, reminding you of long-forgotten events that come rushing back in a wave of nostalgia.

You may also feel the urge to reach out to those who remind you of life’s simpler pleasures, such as a family member or a childhood friend. And if you’re lucky enough to be surrounded by loved ones today, you should have no problem recapturing those memories.

It’s also a good time to surround yourself with children — your own or someone else’s. Seeing the world through their eyes can help you to recapture the innocence and wonder that comes from seeing things in a different light, and not allowing yourself to become jaded by life’s small disappointments and letdowns.

This is not the time to bring old grievances back to the forefront. It’s time to focus on pleasure, playfulness and joy, and working on creating new memories with those you love.

You may have been taking life too seriously and find yourself needing to get in touch with your inner child. Or you now may have to let your guard down and allow yourself to trust again — especially if you’ve been trying to guard your heart from pain. The Six of Cups is about sharing and bringing the happier memories from your past forward to today.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jul 3, 2015 — The Aeon

Aeon

The Aeon

You may feel like you’re undergoing a spiritual awakening today, brought about by an awareness that everything far in your life so far has “led to this.”

This card, the “Aeon” — the Thoth Tarot’s version of the Judgment card — refers to eternity, infinity and timelessness. In this version we meet the Egyptian star goddess Nuit, whose translucent form contains the image of the child-god Horus. Horus was conceived thru the union of Nuit and her mate Hadit (the winged ball of fire).

This card relates to the endless human journey that we sometimes refer to as “karma.” We reap and sew with each thought, action, and decision.

This card represents a summation of all that has come before, and an awareness that each step taken — from here on out — leaves an indelible imprint on our future.

On a personal level, this card speaks of compassion, understanding, forgiveness and acceptance. It’s a card of rebirth and transformation, of getting in touch with your inner child, and of unconditional love.

This is the “grace of God” card, which bestows infinite blessings on those who are able to recognize them. Even for those who are not, it is a powerful catalyst for personal growth and evolution.

As Mercury and Chiron move into square aspect today you may be thinking about old mistakes and regrets. But the Aeon card speaks of atoning for your transgressions and washing away your “sins;” so that you too can be born anew.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 29, 2015 — Queen of Cups

Queen of Cups

Today you may feel the need to step away from the demands on your time and energy, and treat yourself to something special.

The Queen of Cups is known to be sensitive, compassionate and caring. She’s also incredibly loving and giving — in fact she’s so giving that she may sometimes forfeit her own needs as she focuses her attention on others.

But this Queen of Cups — from the gorgeous Chinese Tarot by Jui Guoliang — seems to know a thing or two about tending to her own needs. She’s not only surrounded herself with luxury, she’s indulging all five of her senses.

There’s the aromatic incense wafting through the room, the colorful Ibises painted on the wall, the tinkling bells that adorn her elegant headdress, the delicate tea she sips from her dainty cup, and the opulent silken fibers that make up her royal garb.

This Queen has created a sacred space for her to retreat to and indulge her appreciation for the finer things in life. She’s graceful and elegant and probably also quite wealthy. You can tell that she’s very much at home in the space she’s created and is certainly in no hurry to leave it behind.

As Venus and Jupiter inch closer together today (completing their conjunction on the first), you may be thinking of ways to pamper yourself in more elaborate and extravagant ways — especially since this conjunction is in Leo.

Remember that you’re going to have to learn to take care of yourself first before you’re going to be able to take care of others.

Take some time today to create your own sacred space and nurture your own spirit. Like the Queen of Cups in this card, you want to find a way to create a calm, soothing environment for yourself, especially if you’ve neglected your own needs while caring for others. Make today a day of treating yourself, pampering yourself and restoring your own inner peace.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 26, 2015 — Ten of Wands

Ten of Wands

You may have to face some harsh facts today about a situation that’s become too difficult for you to handle. You could be carrying too heavy a load or holding onto an ideal that’s just not paying off. Or you may be confronted with a painful reality about something (or someone) that is no longer serving you.

You might experience this first hand on the job or in a stressful relationship or even in your own head. If you’ve been giving — of your time, energy, money, affection, etc. — until you find that you have nothing left to give, that is the essence of the Ten of Wands.

The Ten of Wands is usually and indication that you’re working too hard or taking on more responsibilities than you can handle. You may feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, or are so consumed with work that you have no time left for play.

In this version of the card — from Timothy Lantz’s beautiful Archeon Tarot — we see that the ten wands are in fact spears with skulls placed at their tips, all of them dripping blood.

Ancient traditions tell us that these are placed as warnings to those who dare trespass on sacred grounds. A raging fire burns in the background, casting an orange glow onto the autumn moon. There’s also a tribal element to this rendition, with the feathered headdresses and ceremonial colors.

As foreboding and ominous as this may seem, the Ten of Wands refers to the end of an arduous journey — and the end of hardship and adversity. At least with respect to this specific endeavor. Look at where you’ve been working yourself to death, or giving all that you’ve got and seeing no progress, or carrying all of the load to the point of exhaustion, and ask yourself if you need to just put it to rest?

The death and destruction images in this card are saying that it’s time to accept defeat and let it go. It’s also a message to learn something from this experience, so that you don’t repeat the same mistakes. There’s an air of bravery and defiance present in this card, that can carry you through to the next chapter in your life.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 24, 2015 — Hanged Man

Hanged Man

Hanged Man

Mars moves into Cancer today, just as Chiron turns retrograde. The combination of these two transits can not only slow things down for you, but can put you in a position of making an important but necessary sacrifice.

The Hanged Man — this version from the wonderful Mythic Tarot — refers to a period of waiting. It can manifest as delays or restrictions as in seeing something you want so desperately held just outside of your grasp.

You could be frustrated over something that’s taken too long to manifest, or have the sense that nothing is happening despite your best efforts. Road blocks are put in your path — often for your own good. But this card doesn’t refer to endings; this is more about putting something on hold than it is about closing any doors.

The Hanged Man in this card is portrayed by the Greek god Prometheus, who sacrificed so much in order to bring fire to mankind. As penance he was sentenced by Zeus to a life of pain and misery; he was shackled to a boulder high in the mountains where his liver was devoured by an eagle who repeated this torture for the remainder of his days.

Because Prometheus was immortal, he couldn’t just die, nor could his liver be consumed only once. It renewed itself every night, only to be devoured again the next day. Zeus eventually took pity on Prometheus (after 30 years!) and allowed him to be rescued by Heracles, putting an end to the threat of eternal damnation.

The Hanged Man often refers to delays and sacrifices. When it does, you can bet they’re necessary. Trust that there’s a reason — even if it’s not readily apparent. You may have been running at a break-neck pace, never stopping to look at what you’ve accomplished. Or you may have found yourself losing steam over a project that just hasn’t panned out.

Either way, it may be time to put things on hold — at least long enough to evaluate your commitment. Think about the areas in your own life that have taken longer than expected to manifest. There may be a perfectly reasonable explanation, or it may be that there’s still work to be done. Either way you can rest assured that the reasons will become clear to you in time.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 22, 2015 — Three of Wands

Three of Wands

Three of Wands

Jupiter trines Uranus today, bringing with it unlimited potentials for reaching toward your highest goals and aspirations.

The Three of Wands — this version from the beautiful Cosmic Tarot — is a card of opportunity and personal expansion. It encourages us to look at what we’ve already established as we plan our next moves.

In this case the woman in the card has somehow manifested three lotus blossoms in the middle of the desert. She raises her arms to the Sun in gratitude and prayer as she meditates on how far she’s come. The three wands that are placed in the earth around her provide structure and stability, while she ponders her next move.

This woman is graceful and calm. She appears to be blossoming, just like the lotus blossoms growing out of the sand before her. She’s aware of what she’s created thus far, and knows that it will take a combination of serenity and confidence to keep her vision alive.

This is not the time for her (or you) to sit back and rest. It’s important to keep working toward manifesting your goals.

As with all Threes, the Three of Wands encourages you to network and interact with others. Whether this means sharing your ideas, communicating your visions, or accepting offers of assistance, there are always advantages to joining forces with like-minded people.

Although the woman in this card is very much alone. She doesn’t appear lonely and she’s aware of the life sprouting around her, even in the desert. There are also birds flocking toward her in the sky and shadowy figures moving toward her in the distance.

The Three of Wands encourages you to push past your limitations and expand your horizons. It will mean stepping outside of your comfort zone and exploring uncharted territories. And while you may run into pitfalls or have to take detours along the way, know that these are often blessing in disguise that can open up a whole new world of possibilities.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 20, 2015 — Knight of Cups

Knight of Cups

Knight of Cups

You may find yourself swept up in a wave of romantic reverie today, courtesy of today’s beautiful Moon / Venus / Jupiter conjunction in Leo. You can see this aspect applying in the Tarot of a Moon Garden’s version of the Knight of Cups.

It starts with Moon and Venus in the early hours, bringing the together the female archetypes and emphasizing the feminine qualities of love, romance, beauty and harmony. As the day wears on the Moon closes in Jupiter, bringing in the Jovial qualities of warmth, benevolence, expansion and optimism.

You can see these planets lined up with the Crescent Moon tonight if you step outside and check out the Western horizon just after Sunset. This is a fortuitous configuration that the Knight of Cups would surely be wishing on.

The Knight of Cups is the most romantic of all the Knights. He’s sensitive, loving and passionate. He may in love with love; it’s certainly his main driving force.

He may be a person in your life — if so expect him to wear his heart on his sleeve. He may have swept into your life like the proverbial knight in shining armor, or he may be reaching our from afar as the Knights are often also messenger cards.

But as with all the court cards, this may be an event transpiring in your life (a proposal, an invitation, or messages of love and affection from afar.). And it may also appear as an indication of qualities that you might need to adopt.

You may receive news today and while it may not manifest as an actual proposal, it should at least be good news. It may also answer important questions or validate you instincts about someone you feel a connection to. While the Knight of Cups is known for his extravagance, he can also be quite subtle. So don’t be surprised if he sneaks up on you when you least expect it.

Free Daily Tarotscope — Jun 14, 2015 — Knight of Swords

Knight of Swords

Knight of Swords

The Sun and Mars come together in Gemini today, and may see you feeling the need to think and act more quickly.

This aspect is good for clearing the air and for getting on with things rather than dwelling on issues that have been holding you back. It’s good for cutting through confusion and uncertainty and just “doing it” rather than perseveration on whatever’s been standing in your way. And it’s a good time to “wing it,”especially if you’ve been caught up in details rather than looking at the big picture.

If you have something to say, now is the time to say it — as long as you temper your words with kindness and diplomacy. This transit (as well as this card — from Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot) can be impatient, forceful and aggressive.

The Knight of Swords wants to hit the ground running. Or hit the air flying as is depicted in this card. It’s all about being on the go, getting things done, cutting through the BS, and shooting first and asking questions later.

This Knight is a trailblazer. He slices through the air with his dual (Gemini) swords and moves so fast that he doesn’t even need the propellers that are supposed to keep him aloft. He’s faster than a speeding bullet, faster than the gulls flying behind him. Notice that he’s steering his horse down (toward the earth). He’s not just going somewhere, he’s coming from somewhere too.

This is not the day to be lollygagging around. And it’s not the day to be wishy-washy about your goals. It’s a day for action and energy. Motivation. Movement. Direction. Decisiveness. Take a page from this Knight’s book today and get yourself moving, as you have places to go and people to see.
