King of Pentacles

Today’s Moon in Taurus may see you making plans for the future. You might be thinking about starting a business, feathering your nest egg, or looking for ways to establish security for you and your loved ones.

The King of Pentacles — this version from the Connolly Tarot — refers to an individual who has reached the pinnacle of success through hard work and determination. He represents power, authority, ambition and worldly acclaim.

This could be you or it could be someone in your life, such as a parent, teacher, mentor or boss. It could also represent a set of attitudes you need to adopt in order to attain your goals.

The King in this card is dressed in the finest royal attire. He is seated on his throne, surrounded by the fruits of his labors as he keeps a watchful eye over his kingdom. The Pentacle in his hand represents prosperity, the flowers represent beauty and grape vines represent sustenance.

Where do you see yourself five years from now? What about ten or twenty? And what steps are you taking today to manifest that vision? Even though the King of Pentacles is a “King,” he didn’t arrive at his station by sitting around doing nothing.

He had to work his way to the top and once there must maintain his position, even if he’s comfortable enough to relax and enjoy all he’s accomplished.

The King of Pentacles has his feet planted firmly on the ground. He’s a businessman, a entrepreneur, a financial advisor — in general a self-made man. And while you do want to be practical about putting together your long term goals, you want to be careful not to get stuck in a rut. Just like the King in this card, it would do you a world of good to stop and smell those flowers from time to time. All work and no play isn’t good for anyone, least of all you.

The Magician

With Mars and Uranus sextiling today in Gemini and Aries, you may feel like you can accomplish anything! This aspect is innovative and dynamic;it brings together the two planets best suited for creating “magic” in the signs best known for energy, action and initiative.

The Magician in this card — from Vanessa Decort’s gorgeous Sun and Moon Tarot — is seen delineating an astrology chart in heavens. An Ouroboros (world snake, known for devouring its own tail and swallowing itself, only to be born again and again) is placed around the chart wheel’s circumference.

In the center of the wheel are the Magician’s tools — a wand, cup, sword and pentacle. Esoteric symbols (yin-yang, a lemniscate, eye or horus and horse-head talisman) are also seen inside the wheel.

The Magician stands on a beach with waves lapping at the shoreline. Stars twinkle in the night sky while a fire blazes to his left and a monkey gazes out from a pile of rocks on his right.

But the figure in this deck is not your typical Magician. He marches to the beat of his own drum, which is so fitting for the Mars / Uranus sextile. The Monkey in the foreground is also fitting as monkeys are known to be clever and playful creatures who embody the spirit of the Magi.

Take some time to today to think about what makes you unique and what skills you and you alone possess. Every one of us has something that we’re so passionate about — and properly channeled, this can become your calling.

It’s all about making the best and most powerful use of that thing that makes you YOU. Like the Magician in this card, you’ll want to remember that all of your resources are right there at your disposal, and will only need to be accessed in order for you to create something “magic.”

Karma

The Karma card is the Tarot of the Old Path’s version of the Judgment card. It speaks of undergoing a spiritual awakening, brought about by the understanding that everything thus far in your life has “led to this.”

This card refers to eternity, infinity and timelessness. It refers to the endless human journey that we sometimes refer to as “karma.” We reap and sew with each thought, action, and decision.

There are symbols in this version of the card from birth to death and everything in between. Death (the slain knight) and birth (the fetus still in its mother’s womb) make up the left and right corners while everything else — sin and redemption, damnation and salvation, innocence and lust, etc. — in between.

The Angels at the top of the card beckon the wayward souls to heaven while a cloaked guardian in the center determines their fate. There’s a horned god and a lunar goddess at the top watching the souls ascend.

This card represents a summation of all that has come before, and an awareness that each step taken — from here on out — leaves an indelible imprint on our future. On a personal level, this card speaks of compassion, forgiveness, understanding, and acceptance.

The Karma card reminds us that in order to put the past behind us we must not only let go of prior judgments but heal the wounds that have been holding us back.

Take this time to tie up loose ends. This can be a literal letting go of the past, but it will more likely relate to putting yourself in other people’s shoes and seeing how the mistakes they’ve made or the grief they’ve caused have been just as much a part of being human and flawed as any direct attempt to cause you pain

This is the “grace of God” card, which bestows infinite blessings on those who are able to recognize them. It’s a card of both atonement and forgiveness. Of unconditional love, understanding and acceptance — for both ourselves and for those who’ve hurt us or let us down.

The Devil

As the Sun squares Neptune today, you may be thinking about ways to escape from the limitations in your life that have been holding you back. As Neptune is associated with confusion, uncertainty, escapism and avoidance, it’s very possible that the restrictions you find yourself struggling against have all been self-imposed.

The Devil card — this version from the gorgeous Dreaming Way Tarot — encourages you to move past some of the restrictions you’ve imposed on yourself, particularly with respect to the more unsavory emotions — jealousy, anger, paranoia, fear, etc.

If you look at the figures in this card, the Devil herself is bound up in some sort of straight-jacket configuration. She has two smaller beings chained to her, but the chains are loose and her manner of holding them is almost apathetic.

She’s either indifferent to their plight or is so sure of her hold over them that she doesn’t think there’s anything to worry about.

But these two figures could easily unchain themselves and slip away. So what is preventing them from doing that? Back to the self-imposed restrictions — namely negative thoughts and fears.

Your challenge today is to figure out what’s been holding you back — what chains you’ve bound yourself up in — and release yourself from them.

If you have a bigger monkey on your back — such as addiction or another unhealthy form of debauchery — now is also the time to come clean with yourself about it and get clean. Whatever it is, know that the Devil card is here to remind you that only you can reclaim your power. You can liberate yourself from the chains that bind you only if you’re brave enough to face them first.

King of Swords

Today — with the Sun conjuncting Mercury in Gemini — you may be called upon to make a decision that’s based on fairness, ingenuity and impartiality.

The King of Swords — this version represented by Greek Mythology;s Odysseus from the beautiful Mythic Tarot — is a wise and strategic leader who relies on intellect and objectivity rather than compassion and emotion.

He may be a person in your life — a boss, mentor, parent or authority figure — and if so he’s here to show you how to lead with wisdom and grace. He may also represent qualities within yourself that are necessary for you to bring forth. Qualities like discipline and neutrality.

It may be a situation that requires you to act with authority, even if you’re not comfortable in that role. It may require you to “lay down the law” or pass down judgment where there is no easy answer. The King of Swords is able to cut through the nuances and extenuating circumstances to arrive at an impartial decision.

Odysseus was a shrewd and inventive leader. He not only thought up the idea for the Trojan Horse (thus securing victory for the Greeks), he led his people with a firm and lawful hand, never wavering from his solid principles.

The King of Swords is honorable and just. He has noble ideals which he applies to himself as well as others. He insists on fairness and equality for all.

This card can refer to a need for justice and symmetry in your life. Or it can mark the presence of someone whose sense of authority and justice overrides personal investments. Is this you or someone you’re dealing with currently who’s encouraging you to embrace these qualities?

Whether this refers to you or to another, the underlying message is the same. Step away from emotional attachments and make your decisions today based on what is right, fair, and most importantly best for you in the long run.

Seven of Cups

Mercury squares Neptune today, bringing with it the desire to escape into romantic fantasy and illusions.

You may feel like torn by competing interests and pulled in different directions — either away from the things you really want to do, or towards the kind of mindless diversions that cause you lose sight of your priorities.

The Seven of Cups is a card of temptations, often fueled by irrational thoughts or fantasies. There can be too many options available, which makes it hard to decide. But it’s often a case of wishful thinking and foolish day-dreaming that can interfere with actual progress.

This card is loaded in mystical imagery. There’s a woman riding a flying dragon over a pond filled with lotus blossoms. Three cups rest in the pond — one with a rainbow rising from it — the dragon holds another three, and the last one — the Seventh — is lifted up towards the woman by a tiny glowing fairy.

She may be leaning toward that Seventh magical cup but she hasn’t decided yet, and this is one of the main dilemmas with the Seven of Cups. There are so many choices to be made and some of them more appealing than others.

What you long for may look so much more appealing than what you already have, but it’s also quite possibly an illusion. And even if it isn’t you have to remind yourself that it’s not going to come about by sitting around daydreaming about it.

There are elements of seduction also inherent in this card. Being seduced by something intangible or just out of reach, or being lured in by a fantasy that falls short in the harsh light of day.

While you may think that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, chances are good that once you got there you’d want nothing more than to return back home. The message behind this card is to aim for reachable goals and to participate in attaining them rather than allowing yourself to fall into the trap of wishful thinking.

Black Tortoise Knight

The Black Tortoise Knight — from the beautiful Feng Shui Tarot — is less about action and energy than traditional tarot’s version of the Knight of Wands, and more about discretion and forethought.

Mercury and Mars come together today in quick-witted Gemini. This aspect is known for impulsivity and lightning fast reflexes.

But this Knight of Wands is hesitant. You can see him looking back over his shoulder at something just out of range. He appears tentative and uncertain: maybe he’s worried he’s forgotten something or left someone behind.

His horse appears to be skittish as well. He leans down to sniff at the snow-covered ground, with one wary hoof raised.

Remember that Mercury’s retrograde, even if it is conjuncting Mars. It’s probably not the best time to be going “gung ho” over anything as this Knight of Wands already knows.

You may second guessing earlier decisions or going back to clean up earlier mistakes. Especially those that were made impulsively.

You can get a lot accomplished still. But you should be directing that energy toward reworking goals you’ve already set in motion rather than starting something new. The Mercury Rx / Mars aspect tells you to revisit, review and rethink your goals.

The Black Tortoise Knight (as well as the Black Tortoise itself at the edge of the card) seem to know that there’s a lot of value in taking things slow and steady. Save the passion and energyt that’s normally associated with this card for another day, preferably after Mercury goes direct.

Free Daily Tarotscope — May 25, 2015 — The Chariot

The Chariot

You may be in for a bumpy ride today — especially in the romance department — with Mars still squaring Neptune and Venus squaring Uranus.

The Chariot card — this version from the beautiful Tarot of the Old Path — refers to internal upheavals that threaten to manifest externally, such as an angry outburst or emotional display. It challenges you to “pull it together” and exert control over your own internal conflicts.

The Four stallions in this card represent the four elements, as do their corresponding reigns. The first one on the left is Water with a pale, translucent (and watery) mane. Next is Air, with a crescent moon and smattering of stars. Then there’s Earth with the pentagram, wildflowers and wheat chaff main. And finally the Fire element horse with the flames surrounding him.

The Charioteer in this card is also loaded with symbolism. He wears a pentagram (symbol of ascended man) on his crown and a Crab (for the zodiac sign Cancer, which the Chariot is associated with) on his breast plate. He holds a hazel wand in his right hand, the wand best used for divination.

The Four stallions appear to be moving in relatively the same direction but you can see that each has a mind of his own. It will take a lot more than sheer force of will to contain them and keep them working as a team.

It will take discipline and restraint to keep them on track and moving in the same direction. Otherwise there’s some danger of spinning your wheels without really making any progress. The Venus / Uranus and Mars / Neptune squares can make it even harder to keep things under control.

You’ll have to work hard if you want to rein in all of that energy, and this is the essence of the Chariot card. It’s the understanding that all parts of any “machine” have to operate in harmony in order to be effective. If you’re willing to embrace that philosophy — and if you can stand up and take hold of the reins in your own life — you can accomplish anything.

Page of Pentacles

You may have a lot on your plate today as you work to put the finishing touches on half-finished projects. While you may be feeling overwhelmed with the amount of work before you, if anyone’s up to the task, it’s you.

The Page of Pentacles — this version from the Deviant Moon Tarot — refers to a self-made individual; one who’s busy working on himself and who’s capable of making something out of nothing (or building a better mouse-trap).

This Page is focused on craftsmanship. This isn’t just about “work” for him — it’s about honing his skills and putting his own unique stamp on everything he does. He’s as much a work in progress as the Pentacle he holds in his hand.

He may be young and inexperienced, but he’s not afraid to roll up his sleeves and get to work. Notice the nuts and bolts scattered on the ground around him. And notice the factories in the background lighting up the night sky. These are both reminders that the work never ends and that there’s always more to be done.

This card encourages you to throw yourself into something that inspires you — whether that’s on the job or in other areas of your life.

It encourages you to think about ways you can improve: such as going back to school or learning a new trade. But you could also be applying your expertise to areas outside of your profession. Projects around the home, with loved ones or family members, or establishing a partnership with someone are all possibilities.

The Page of Pentacles may be someone in your life, someone youthful and inexperienced but focused on making his (or her) mark on the world. It can also represent an attitude that would be beneficial for you to adopt.

No matter where you are in your journey there’s always something new to learn and some new way to improve on your skills. Like the Pentacle in this card, you are a work in progress. Whether the Page holding it is you or someone in your life, know that he”s here to remind you to never stop growing, learning or evolving.

Ace of Pentacles

Today’s New Moon in Taurus marks the beginning of a new financial cycle. As Taurus rules the 2nd (money) house and is associated with stability and security, it’s a good time to start saving money and planning for your future.

The good news is that the Ace of Pentacles means money is coming in. It may me small amounts of money, but those can be pooled together, invested or put to good use and grow over time.

The Ace of Pentacles represents the start of something new, in this case new financial opportunities. It’ speaks of manifesting your goals through hard work, dedication and perseverance.

You may be in line for a raise or promotion, or you could learn of job opportunity that involves a bigger salary. You could also be the benefactor of someone else’s generosity. Either way, you should have more opportunities and more financial resources at your disposal than you’ve had in recent days.

You may also feel that your luck is changing. As the Ace of Pentacles is associated with a positive change in fortune. It’s telling you to keep up the good work, to go after your dreams, and to be open to all that the Universe has to offer you.

The Sunflowers in this version of the card — from Nathalie Hertz’s gorgeous Fantastical Tarot — represent abundance, longevity, fertility and fortune. The Dragon represents strength, power and luck.

The Ace of Pentacles says money is coming your way today so be ready to make the most of it. You may not see a windfall, but it’s still a positive affirmation that you’re putting your energy into the right areas.

With that in mind, it also serves to remind you of the importance of staying grounded and focused while you put your plans in motion. You can be confident in the knowledge that fortune is smiling upon you with today, and while that doesn’t mean you should be foolish with your money, you should have more of it than usual to work with.

Knight of Swords

As Mars moves into Gemini today, you may find yourself needing to think and act more quickly than usual. Gemini is the most restless of all the dual (mutable) signs and with the planet that rules action and energy (Mars) stepping in, you’ll want to be on your toes and prepared to act with lightning speed.

This version of the Knight of Swords — from the wonderful Mythic Tarot — has two Knights not one. These are Castor and Pollux (the Dioscuri) — known to us as the twin stars in the astronomical constellation Gemini.

The Dioscuri were warrior twins — one mortal and one divine. They spent their days alternating between heaven and earth after Pollux was killed and Castor was stricken with grief.

This is the volatile, unpredictable energy that Mars in Gemini is so well suited for. It requires us to be flexible and adaptable; in fact it embraces constant change.

The Knights in this card appear to be very much in sync. But you can see that there are storm clouds on the horizon. The true test of their allegiance will come when those clouds produce results and threaten to disrupt their world.

This is what you want to be thinking about today when life throws you curveballs. Are you prepared to act quickly and decisively when things don’t go as planned? Or will one minor change in your schedule upset everything and throw you off kilter?

The Knight of Swords encourages you to not only roll with the punches but be open to unanticipated disruptions in your carefully constructed life. These may not only become blessings in disguise, but can also steer you away from pitfalls you might otherwise have not foreseen.

The Hero

Today’s card — from the gorgeous Chrysalis Tarot — is this deck’s version of traditional tarot’s Fool. Here he’s portrayed as a Hero, or more specifically the legendary wizard Merlin.

As the first card in the 78-card tarot deck, this card represents the onset of the Fool’s journey. And yet this version portrays him as a wizened old man — someone whose life experiences have brought him to great pinnacles of awareness.

But this is a card of transformation and change. It’s a reminder of the importance of embracing each new chapter with the idealism and wonder of a child — no matter where you are in your own life’s journey.

Notice that Merlin’s staff is actually a snake — the archetypal symbol of transformation. And his familiar sits at his site, wide-eyed, alert, and embodying the traditional feline mysteries that have been passed down through the ages.

The light creeping over the horizon and twinkling stars above tell you that a new day is dawning. It’s an opportunity — as with every new day — to start fresh.

The Sun sextiles Chiron today, making it possible to conduct yourself with both confidence and humility. There is a gentle, compassionate energy about Chiron that makes progressing toward your goals less about ego and more about experience.

The Hero card encourages you to draw on the wisdom you’ve gained through your life experiences as you embark on each new chapter. You’re given the opportunity to embrace new experiences with the youthful spirit of a child, without losing sight of what you’ve already learned.
