Three of Coins

Today is a good day to put your head together with others and work on bringing a project to fruition. The Three of Coins is a “teamwork” card, among other things.

It’s about hitting your stride and seeing initial results of something you’ve been working hard on. Sometimes you need help to take it to the next level, even if that comes in the form of a critical eye.

The Three of Coins — like all threes — refers to the initial stages of progress where you’ve taken an idea (the Ace), put it into production (the Two), and are making progress now toward creating something real (the Three).

The imagery in this card describes this process beautifully. All three of these creatures are working together in harmony, with the central figure holding a coin that has a Full Moon inscribed on it while the other two are presenting him with coins of their own: one with a crescent (New) Moon and the other a crescent (Balsamic) Moon. These three phases of the Moon refer to the stages of a project from start to finish.

There’s an interdependence depicted here and a camaraderie. Each of these figures needs the others and all of them are contributing equally.

It’s a good time to reach out to others and ask for help if you need it. It can’t hurt to offer it to those who’d benefit from your assistance too. You may need a little push to get past a hump, or you may need the discerning eye of someone you trust.

The Three of Coins says that you’re making progress and should be feeling good about what you’ve accomplished so far. But there’s still work to be done, and you won’t be able to do it alone.

Today’s Mercury / Pluto sextile may see you taking a more serious approach to pursuing your interests as well as honing the skills that you already possess.

The sextile aspect is creative and harmonious — perfect for music, poetry, art, or any creative endeavor. Similar to the Page of Pentacles — this version from Jennifer Galasso’s Crystal Visions Tarot — which refers to the desire to develop skills that can be applied to material enterprises.

The Page of Pentacles may be someone in your life; if so he or she is here to teach you something. This person may be immersed in a hobby or trade; He or she may be a student or apprentice; and he or she may just starting a new job and filled with all the inspiration and anticipation that comes with taking on a brand new project.

This version sees a young woman seated high up in the branches of a tree. This may be a sacred space for her: if you look around her you can see where she’s carved figures of woodland nymphs into the surrounding branches.

Lush green vines wend their way up the trunk and over her dress, suggesting that she’s been there quite a long time.

A single jewel-encrusted Pentacle is placed prominently in the tree, with smaller faceted crystals below it. She closes her eyes and strums the lute she caresses in her hands, fully immersing herself in the music.

You may be thinking of going back to school or learning a whole new trade. You may be immersing yourself in your own studies — either formally or informally, as in teaching yourself a new skill or perfecting one you’ve already begun to develop.

The Page of Pentacles invites you to recapture that youthful exuberance and thirst for learning that may have gotten lost somewhere along the way. It encourages you to dust of the books or pick up a creative instrument of your own and try your hand at refining, improving and ultimately mastering it.

Ace of Spirals

On the heels of yesterday’s total Solar Eclipse of the Sun at 29° Pisces — and the last day of winter for those in the Northern Hemisphere — the Sun has now fully stepped into Aries.

What better card to honor this transition than the Ace of Spirals from the gorgeous Chrysalis Tarot? The card features the head of a Ram (symbol for Aries) with prominent spiraled horns.

Feathers from different species of birds encircle his head like a ceremonial headdress — I counted 22 in all, perhaps this is a symbolic reference to the 22 cards in the major arcana.

The Peacock feather — known as the “eyes of the stars” — is said to represent an awakening, awareness, insight and luck, all fine Aries keywords.

The Ace of Spirals is this deck’s version of the Ace of Wands. Its keyword is “Energy.” It refers to the Arian qualities of action, impulse, fearlessness and drive. Like all Aces, the Ace of Spirals is a pure, raw, untamed energy. It’s an essence that can be formed or shaped or planted like a seed.

This feels like a kinder, gentler Ram; there’s a soulfulness in his eyes and a certain dignity in his stance. He’s got an “all-knowing” quality about him, made even more distinct by the timelessness of the celtic knot that encircles his neck.

The Ace of Spirals — as well as the Sun moving into Aries — is all about inspiration and potential. It invites you to ask yourself what you really really want that you haven’t (up to now) put your whole heart and soul into? And what are the chances of making it a reality unless you do?

The Moon is in Aries today too — joining Mars, Uranus and the South Node — so there’s no dearth of this fiery, dynamic energy. It’s time to offer your intentions up to the Universe with every reason to expect you’ll be rewarded for doing so. It”s time to push all negativity aside and replace it with optimism and inspiration. If you’re truly serious about manifesting your desires, there is no time like the present to do it.

Nine of Swords

Today you may have to confront your fears or face the music about something that you’re not too comfortable with.

The Nine of Swords — this version from the Deviant Moon Tarot — speaks of finding yourself in a predicament that is largely of your own doing. And while it may be hard to admit, avoiding responsibility for something you’ve created yourself will only exacerbate your problems.

This is sometimes called the “nightmare” card. It refers to the apprehension and fear we experience upon waking up from a bad dream. And when we’re forced to confront a real-life situation that has taken on nightmarish proportions, it can be just as traumatic.

There’s a sense of foreboding in this card. The child has awakened from a nightmare, terrified by what he’s seen. Nine Swords are lined up behind his headboard, their blades alternating left to right. A demon cat scurries across his bed clothes while a tiny ghoul gnawing on his shoulder (whispering madness into his ear) makes it all the more ominous .

You may have created a situation — or contributed to one — yourself that now has you terrified of potential consequences. You may feel like running away from your problems, or pulling the blankets up over your head again and pretending that none of it is real. But you’ll find that not confronting your demons and tackling the situation head on only makes them more harrowing.

The Nine of Swords is strangely empowering as it forces you to face your fears. There’s no more hiding or avoiding, as the circumstances in your life put them right in your path. You may have to remind yourself that it’s never as bad as it seems; that it was only a nightmare and that everything will look better with the dawn of a new day.

Four of Cups

Mercury squares Saturn today, bringing with it the potential for feelings of apathy and melancholy to rise to the surface.

The Four of Cups — this version from the Archeon Tarot — usually refers to being at a cross-roads in relationship. It speaks of dissatisfaction and discontent in affairs of the heart — whether you’re the one experiencing these things or are on the receiving end of someone else’s discontent.

The woman in this card is looking down forlornly, oblivious to the wine that’s spilled from the goblets before her. The spilled wine is actually reminiscent of blood droplets in some areas of the card. And this is the essence of this card: hurt, sadness, loss, and regret.

There are also elements of ambivalence or indifference associated with this card. This is what happens when the state of limerence is lifted and the lovers are left feeling bored. You may be involved in a perfectly functional relationship that lacks the thrill and excitement of something new. In this respect there’s a sense of being “comfortably numb,” and You’re more likely to see the goblets as half empty than half full.

If you’re not currently in a relationship, your single status may be at the root of your dissatisfaction. But you’ll also have to ask yourself what you bring to the table too: you’re not likely to attract a partner if you’re projecting a laissez faire attitude. You can’t go looking for someone to alleviate your boredom. You’ll have to take care of that yourself.

One of the greater benefits of the Four of Cups is that it reveals to you exactly what’s “wrong with this picture” and allows you the opportunity to make it right. And the Saturn / Mercury aspect can do the same. While you may start out thinking “what’s the point?” you’ll have a clearer idea of what’s worth salvaging and what could use a little more work.

Seven of Wands

You may feel the need to brace yourself against an attack today, or hold your ground against what feels like perilous opposition.

The Seven of Wands — this version from Kessia-Beverley Smith’s Forest Folklore Tarot — refers to a need to be more alert, guarded and cautious, rather than accepting things at face value.

You may face opposition from others, in the form of competition or outright resistance. You may also feel “under siege:” as in being attacked or ganged up on.

In this version of the card a little fairy stands her ground from a branch that is situated between two trees. It’s clear that she’s outnumbered as she struggles to keep her adversaries at bay. She fends them off with her magic wand, keeping one hand on the tree for support.

The Seven of Wands — like all Sevens — refers to a dilemma that is not going to be easily reconciled. The question is: do you take the easy way out (in this case giving in to the masses and compromising your own integrity)? Or do you hold your ground — like the fairy in this card — and risk further alienating your detractors?

There are issues with boundaries present in this card as well, and it can manifest as feeling imposed upon or backed into a corner. But the same dilemma applies. You have to choose whether to give in or maintain your stance and deal with whatever repercussions result.

Whatever happens today — no matter how this plays out for you — you’re going to be called upon to take the high road. You’re going to be challenged to stand your ground and to not allow yourself to back down. You’ll also have to reconcile a “me against the world” attitude before it turns into a chip on your shoulder.

You may feel like letting your hair down and spending your day socializing and interacting with others.

The Three of Cups — this version for Nathalie Hertz’s beautiful Faerie Tarot — is a playful and festive card that emphasizes partying and celebrating over work and responsibilities. it also emphasizes friends and casual relationships over serious romantic entanglements.

It refers to being surrounded by like-minded people and putting your differences aside. It’s about coming together and joining forces with those who have your best interests at heart.

As Venus trines Jupiter today, the focus is on merriment and gaiety rather than monotony and drudgery. It’s on interacting and networking with others, allowing you to push aside some of your more serious concerns — at least for the time being.

It represents people gathering together to connect, interact and celebrate. It’s a happy, joyful energy that can manifest as a party or celebration, or it could be as simple as a girls night out. There’s a strong sisterhood vibe to this card — as well as most other versions of the Three of Cups — too.

Pay attention to new people coming into your life too, as Venus is also opposing Uranus today. You could find yourself developing friendships with people that seem random at first but can turn into important connections over time.

No matter where the people in your life have come from today — no matter what your connection or history or relationship with them is — the Three of Cups is a card of companionship and camaraderie. It serves as a reminder that there’s always something to be grateful for, and always someone to share your gratitude with.

Wheel of Fortune

Today you may be looking at the ups and downs in your life and thinking about how they’ve led you to where you are today. The Wheel of Fortune card is associated with fate, destiny, “karma,” life cycles and both good and bad luck.

Sometimes we blame ourselves for the down times (assuming we’ve “brought it all on ourselves”) while viewing the up times as outside of our control.

We all experience these up and down cycles — and we all try to maximize the former while minimizing the latter. But the Wheel of Fortune — this version from the beautiful Feng Shui Tarot — tells us that both are necessary and that the good times wouldn’t be good without the frame of reference of the not-so-good times.

The Wheel in this version is balanced between solid ground and turbulent waters. Four colored lanterns — representing the four elements (fire, earth, wind and water) — keep it suspended in midair.

The Wheel of Fortune is tied to “luck” and you may see yours turning with today’s Jupiter / Uranus trine. This aspect brings Jupiter’s benevolence and Uranus’ penchant for surprise together in unexpected ways.

There are also elements of karma and fate associated with this card; yet the Wheel of Fortune refers as much to creating your own destiny — and mastering your own fate — as it does to dealing with karmic repercussions.

It’s a reminder that all we send out comes back to us in some form or another. It may not be today; it may be months or years or even lifetimes away. The Jupiter / Uranus aspect can bring in unique opportunities to clear up past-life karma and rewrite your destiny.

Remember that as one one door closes, another one opens — just as the wheel turns and the seasons change. Today’s transits speak of finding ways to voice your intentions while at the same time putting disappointments and heartaches behind you.

Knight of Cups

Today you may find yourself the happy recipient of a pleasant surprise, an unexpected gift, or reassurances of love and affection from someone near and dear to your heart.

The Knight of Cups may represent a person in your life; if so he or she may come sweeping in, professing feelings of love and adoration that are going to be hard to resist.

As Venus conjuncts the South Node today, your “knight in shining armor” may even be someone from your past, as in a past life connection or an old flame.

The Knight of Cups — this version from the Connolly Tarot — is a sensitive and romantic individual (usually male) who leads with his heart. He’s in love with love and may be somewhat moody or overly sentimental.

This version is ardent and passionate as well: notice the vivid reds and fuschias that are so prominent in this card. In addition to the skyline, there’s his cloak and his gloves and the plumes in his helmet — and even the horse’s tassels are bathed in hot pink.

This Knight isn’t messing around: He’s going all out — or all in in this case — as evidenced by the single red (representing love) and white (representing marriage) roses he lifts up in his golden chalice.

While today’s news may not manifest as an actual proposal, be prepared for good news or some validation of your feelings — if only a small gesture. While the Knight of Cups is known for his extravagance, he can also be quite subtle. He may just sneak up on you when you least expect it.

Ten of Swords

Today you may find yourself in the uncomfortable position of having to put something to rest that should have been put to rest a long time ago.

The Ten of Swords speaks of inevitable endings. These usually refer to something that’s been held onto well past its expiration date — such as a job you’ve outgrown, a relationship that’s run its course or a friendship that is no longer supportive.

You may have to surrender to the realization that something that means a lot to you must come to an end.

This card is called “Ruin” in some decks, and refers to damage that has been done which cannot be undone, such as a loss of a friendship, the end of a dream or a betrayal of trust.

There’s a bit of a dramatic conclusion in this of the card, as there very well may be in real life. In this version — from the gorgeous Paulina Tarot — we see a swooning woman with 10 swords piercing her flesh. Or are they? If you look closely you’ll notice that there is no blood. And all of the swords are crooked. Perhaps they’re not stuck into her after all.

Whatever it is you’re being forced to let go of, know that it was no longer serving its purpose. There are indications here — just as there are in every version of this card — that the worst is over.

As hard as it is, you know what you’re up against: there’s no more fretting and worrying about the future (as that was left to the Nine of Swords). The Ten of Swords tells you that it’s time to put the past behind you, pick up the pieces and begin the process of moving on.

Today you may be called upon to lay down the law or exert your influence and authority over others.

The King of Wands — this version from the Arcus Arcanum Tarot — is depicted as a powerful and imposing figure.

This KIng is hearty and robust. He’s seated on his throne against a fiery red and gold back-drop. His royal garb is rugged yet dignified and the club he holds in his lap (his “wand”) is not one to be trifled with.

As with all of the court cards, the King of Wands can represent a person in your life, in this case someone who possesses strong leadership qualities and who has a personable, larger-than-life presence that’s impossible to ignore.

If this is the case with you, know that this person is here to teach you to embrace some of these qualities yourself. You may need to learn to wield your own authority over others, at home or in the work place.

The King of Wands can also represent a state of mind — as in displaying confidence and problem solving skills that draw people to you and elevates you in their eyes. And he can represent an event — such as a promotion or recognition from your peers.

However he appears for you today, see it as an indication that it’s time to step and start exerting your own influence. It may be time for you to pick up your own mighty club and show the rest of the world what you’re made of.

Two of Cups

Today’s Venus / Mars conjunction may see you bonding intimately with another.

The Two of Cups speaks of falling in love, finding your other half, and connecting with another on such a powerful level that the two become one.

It’s not always a love connection. It can refer to a close friendship, business partnership, or some other deep bond. It refers to the “sum of the parts being greater than the whole,” which reminds us that two heads (and hearts) are better than one.

In the context of romance though, this is a very loving and romantic card. This version — from Jennifer Galasso’s ethereal Crystal Visions Tarot — is about as romantic as you can get. In it, a pair of star-struck lovers bathe in a shimmering lotus pool under the light of a full moon.

There’s a sacred connection here, a blending of energies with the pouring of an essence from one cup to another and the tiny faerie that rises in the mist and bestows her blessings on the couple below.

This is the essence of the Two of Cups. It’s not just relating to another romantically, but also sharing, merging and uniting in love. The Venus / Mars conjunction in Aries increases your libido, sexual magnetism and physical chemistry.

It can also relate to finding your “soul-mate” or your other half. It brings with it the ability to see yourself through someone else’s eyes (and heart). In this respect it’s about falling in love with yourself — at your very best.

If you’re already involved in an established relationship, this card can relate to reinvigorating the love you felt upon first meeting. And if you’re not involved and just looking, it may very well be the time you find exactly what you’re looking for.
