Here is the Ask the Astrologers Weekly Astro Forecast for the week of Jan 29, 2018 – Feb 4, 2018:
This week starts on Monday with a 1st quarter (Gibbous) Moon in Cancer. The 1st quarter Moon is tied to home, family, security, emotions and needs (among other things). It’s comfortable in Cancer (the sign it rules), although the first aspect it makes (an opposition to Saturn) is anyhing but.
A Moon / Saturn opposition can see you feeling dejected or discontent. It can indicate a sense of futility or disenchantment with others. It is the classic “what’s the use?” aspect that can manifest itself as lowering your expectations in order to protect yourself from disappointment. It’s a harsh and somewhat depressing aspect but is fortunately fleeting, and will soon be replaced by a much more pleasant aspect, a trine to Neptune.
The Moon / Neptune trine (with both in water signs) is is loving, compassionate, creative and highly impressionable. It can increase psychic awareness and make you more susceptible to outside influences. It’s mystical and ethereal, but can also be incredibly naive.
Venus conjuncts the South Node (and opposes the North Node) on Tuesday. This aspect signals the entrance into our lives of people we’re karmically linked with from past lives, as well as the exit of those who are no longer facilitating our growth. There are elements of fate associated with this aspect. Relationships that start or end during this transit are karmic in nature, so it’s important to treat them as sacred.
Mercury moves into Aquarius on Wednesday. As Aquarius is ruled by Uranus (which is the higher octave of Mercury), this placement emphasizes originality and independence. The archetype is capable of bringing insight and awareness to the forefront. It’s all about innovation progress and change. Radical ideas and flashes of brilliance
Mercury in Aquarius is all about thinking outside the box. Looking toward the future. And figuring out your own unique contributions to society. It’s innovative and progressive. It’s open-minded, far-reaching and can be a bit eccentric. Use this time to explore your individuality and to think of ways to let your brilliance shine.
Also on Wednesday — at 1:26pm UT — we have a Full Moon is a total lunar eclipse at 11° Leo 37.
This particular Full Moon is a “supermoon” — meaning that the Moon is perigee and will appear larger than usual. It’s also what’s known as a “blue” moon (as the second Full Moon of the month). And because it is a total lunar eclipse (which frequently causes the Moon to take on a reddish hue), it’s also known as a “blood” moon.
So in addition to being January’s Wolf Moon (or Old Moon) as is called in Native American traditions, this month it’s also being referred to as the “Super Blue Blood Moon.”
The Sabian Symbol for this degree is: “An evening lawn party,” which Sabian Symbol expert Lynda Hill associates with “Rising above superficiality into receptivity. Enjoying social settings. Conversations. Invitation lists. Socializing.” She calls it the “desire or the need to be free to socialise and hang out with folks, be free to express yourself and just have fun.”
As Eclipses are known to expose things that have previously been hidden, this can represent a time where duplicity and deception are revealed. We’re likely to have our belief systems tested and to find ourselves challenging the same in others.
Those that we’ve idolized or placed on pedestals may come crashing down as we find ourselves questioning what we may have blindly believed in in the past. We may feel the need to challenge authority and question those who we feel have misled us or duped us into believing something that turns out to be little more than smoke and mirrors.
As Eclipses always occur close to the Moon’s Nodes, this one sees the Moon conjuncting the North Node shortly after the eclipse, and the Sun conjuncting the South Node a few days later (on Saturday). The Sun and Moon conjuncting the lunar Nodes suggests that people you encounter during this time will challenge you to grow karmically, either because of past life ties or because they are facilitators this time around for whatever karmic lessons you’re facing.
Also on Saturday, Mercury sextiles Mars. This aspect is great for making plans and then following through with them. It’s good for brainstorming and bouncing ideas off of like minded people as well. It’s all about being on the same page with those you’re working with and getting things done with little conflict or aggravation.
Since Mars is also currently in mutual reception with Jupiter, it’s also about being expansive and optimistic. If you’re thinking about negotiating a business deal or want to get your ideas before someone who can help you turn them into reality, this is the time to do it.
We wind the week down with Venus in Aquarius squaring Jupiter in Scorpio, exact on Sunday. This transit can see you going above and beyond the call of duty where friends and loved ones are concerned. It’s an expansive, indulgent energy that can translate to overdoing it, as in overindulging or overextending yourself.
You may find yourself biting off more than you can chew or promising more than you can deliver. You may also overestimate your ability to lend a helping hand. So take a moment to look at promises you’ve already made before you start offering your services to others.
That’s it for this week; see you next week!
